Emery hints Arsenal want Suarez and Perisic – but they may not happen

This whole month has been taken up with the Arsenal hierarchy negotiating with Barcelona to try and get them to all ow Denis Suarez to arrive, and recently we have also been closely linked with Ivan Perisic, but according to the Gunners coach Unai Emery, we are still a long way from confirming either arrival.

When asked directly about our how many arrivals he was expecting, the boss said: “Nil or possibly two. Between nil and two.”

And then the report on Arsenal.com went on to ask Emery about our individual targets, and he was a little bit more forthcoming than usual….

on Ivan Perisic and whether we’ve made an approach…
It’s one thing the club is working on, the possibility with different players. I don’t know exactly which players, but it’s players with the possibility to help us who can play on the wing, right or left.

on whether Perisic wants to join the club…
I think all the players who can come here and help us is good news.

on Denis Suarez…
It’s the same. This transfer is not easy and the message is that the club is working on different players. The possibility, if it can be [done], is good for us.

on his confidence of making new signings…
I don’t know because this transfer window is not easy. I know the club is doing all they can to achieve one player to help us.

on whether he’d be disappointed if there were no signings…
No, because we were speaking about these possibilities two months ago but we know it’s not easy.

on how many players he hopes to sign before the end of the week…
Nil or possibly two. Between nil and two. If they aren’t coming to help us like we want, then we would prefer them to not come. Two because we are looking at two different players who have the possibility to come here.

That doesn’t sound very promising at all, and It is even more worrying that we are only looking at wingers, when we have so many defensive injuries, but we already know there will be no defenders coming in.

It looks like we have already written off this season, but I can’t see us building for next season either….

  1. At least the one upside is that we should see a bit more of Mavropanos, hopefully he turns out to be a revelation for us. I was astonished when Chambers was sent out on loan and now those chickens are coming home to roost.

Furthermore, we also sent Nelson out on loan and he would have been a very handy addition right about now. Chambers and Nelson could have got plenty of game time in the early stages of Europa and the league cup, not to mention gain a better understanding of the new approach under the manager. Now we sit up a creek without a paddle. Ramsey who is leaving is getting plenty of game time (for what? To keep him sharp for Juve next season?).

Holding and Chambers should have been our Europa pairing with the eye on bringing them into the 1st team fold next season once Mustaphi and Koscielny got shipped off. Our planning this season leaves a lot to be desired. Hopefully we are learning valuable lessons, and ideally fast. My fear was that we would end up being Man U 2.0, mercifully we don’t have the capital available to make similar mistakes but let there be no doubt, serious mistakes are certainly being made.

    1. No need for the disrespect. No need for Koscielny to be “shipped off” as you put it. He is an Arsenal legend and former WC player and can be an awesome Defensive Coach for the young players

      1. A bit like Steve Bould-an AWESOME defender. And we can all see what a difference he has made to our defence can’t we?

    2. Chambers, I also believe we could’ve used him, and if I’m being honest, the majority of fans could almost see this coming. Everyone seemed surprised by the decision. As long as CC is playing each week, I do think for him, that that is the main thing, because young players should not be on the sidelines when they have so much yet to learn. I would’ve preferred him at CB though, I don’t like when coaches believe they can do quick fixes and play midfielders there. CC will now be known as a utility player, that will help his sale value, probably, every manager will have at-least one of those in his side. Speaking of utility, Suarez who can play all across the midfield except CDM, news is that this one is all but done, many fans are already welcoming him home.

  2. Dan, which defender realistically do you think we should go for and remember we can only do loan deals. Gary cahill? I will rather give mavropanos and medley a chance, i’m tired of rejects, it has never gotten us anywhere.

    1. I agree about Mavropanos. Sometimes injuries can be a bit of a blessing, in that sense that others get a chance. If Kos was fit at the beginning of the season, I doubt we would have seen as much of Holding, but that has actually worked out really well. Holding has now become our best ball playing CB, and definitely a first choice pick as well. A lot of people have been saying Mavro has good potential, so now he has a chance to show his talent. I’ve only seen a little of him, but I liked what I saw.

  3. I have got a hunch that Barcelona and Inter would finally budge

There are still two days left, plenty of time to make it happen

    1. BREAKING: Arsenal and Barcelona ‘are details’ away from agreeing a loan deal for Denis Suarez with the option to buy for £20.7m after Dennis Suarez signed a new deal at the club.

On Perisic salary agreed at around £125,000 but no concrete offer from Arsenal to Inter yet.

      1. Are we still after Perisic. I thought after hearing about Suarez, that the Perisic move was to show Barca that we have other options, then it brought Barca back to the table.

What Arsenal were offering along with the money, is to put their players in the shop window. Suarez is not going to be worth much to Barca just sitting on the sidelines, and Perisic is gone a bit stale in Italy, the move could’ve brought back his WC form. Only Barca got a bit greedy and tried to stick us with a player, without us having a look at what we’re buying.

        1. Sorry for the late reply.Just checked in.
Arsenal are very interested in Perisic and at this rate it’s looking more likely that Emery wants two wingers (Suarez and Perisic/Nkunku/Malcom/Carrasco).
One thing I’ve noticed is that Dennis Suarez is thought of as a Ramsey replacement but Ramsey is still here meaning he’s more likely to play on the wings because Suarez is not a two man midfield type of player.Perisic is wanted because he’s a true winger unlike the likes of Nkunku and Suarez. Thus this means we will be covered at LW while having Suarez who can play CM and also at the wings.

  4. I don’t see where his hint suggests we want Perisic or Suarez. He said according to your quote “It’s one thing the club is working on, the possibility with different players. I don’t know exactly which players, but it’s players with the possibility to help us who can play on the wing, right or left.” Maicon had being rumored to be a target as loan signing. The psg kid also. It could be any of those players and not just those two you mentioned. Emery not say yes to all those questions is nothing new. Arsenal prefers to keep transfer in house until it is done.

  5. I guess the fear is we loan these players and send them back?
Perisic is an interesting buy because we will get maybe 2 or possibly 3 years out of him considering his age. But if the reports are right, that he could earn £110 a week (though some say £250k!!!) then that is a good deal (especially if we end up in the CL). It might spell the end of Ozil and free up £360k a week or it might be to replace outgoing players. Lets not forget Ramsey and Welbeck are off and Nelson is coming back.

Saurez is my preferred option as his age and experience and desire to go on and prove himself in the game is still there (I hope).

I feel one signing is most likely as Suarez actually makes a substandard Barca bench look half decent atm. This might be one we need to address in the summer then now.
Its been a terrible year with injuries which has really affected our flow – and there is no guarantees this will not occur again next year.

    1. From reliable sources, the reports saying Perisic will earn £250,000 are not really true but that salary is before tax. He’ll actually be earning around £125,000

  6. I think Perisic is a backup option for Suarez.

Another loan move we have been linked to is PSG youngster, Nkunku, a player Emery knows from their time together.

    1. From what I’ve gathered Emery wants two players. The wingers we are currently chasing include: Perisic,Malcom and Carrasco.Perisic is the backup option to Malcom actually. In the summer we will move for Nicolas Pepe.
The central midfielders we are currently chasing include Dennis Suarez and Nkunku.

      1. Oh okay, I don’t know why I bother reading David Ornsteins’s articles any more. We get all the rubbish from you instead!

            1. Not rubbish.Dennis Suarez to Arsenal is now done(loan + option to buy at €25m).Arsenal are looking at one of Perisic or Nkunku for the wings.

        1. ????????
Admin what happened to Eddie please tell him we miss his articles and posts tuff times at the Arsenal.

      2. I’ve read Nkunku is versatile and could play on the wings, I also read that he might be able to cover RB as well which would be useful… as long as he can defend better than Lich.

I don’t know much about the lad and it’s a shame, I remember him causing us problems in… preseason I think? Seen those clips in his youtube as well which made me lol. If he can offer a good press and can play on the right then that would suit Emeryball and how he likes to press all over.

        1. The lad has speed, good technique and versatile.I didn’t like him but now that you’ve mentioned it he’s worth the loan. However, it’s either him or Perisic so choose your choice.

  7. those 2 words i hate and dread…. done deal. kev is at it again, thought he was put out to grass after last summers imfamous done deals undoings. some people will never learn. done deal, that term should be banned on here , lol.but who knows , maybe kev knows best !!!. we will see pretty soon enough . done deaL,done deal, done deal.
