Emery’s number one target confirms Arsenal interest

There does seem to be a little more transparency than usual regarding Arsenal’s summer transfer plans, and the one target that has been mentioned most by the media is the the Turkish centre-back Caglar Soyuncu.

The 21 year-old is currently at Freiberg in the Bundesliga and is apparently very highly-rated by Sven Mislintat, and as we are all very aware of our defensive failings this season it is little surprise that the Gunners are looking at tough young defenders, as well as steady experienced campaigners.

Previously Soyuncu has stated that he wants to go to a club that will guarantee him playing time, and now the centre-back has openly confirmed that Arsenal are one of the clubs involved in talks to sign him. Speaking to Turkish media, he said, “Arsenal are one of the most important clubs in England. I know they’re interested in me, but there’s nothing finalized yet about my transfer.

“After the national team camp we’ll have talks.”

Given Arsenal’s urgent need for defenders it would be better for us to get our targets snared as quickly as possible before they start attracting interest from our rivals, especially as the hot prospect is reported to be available for just 35m GBP which is a steal in today’s market, especially if he is as talented as Mislintat seems to think he is.
Fingers crossed on this one!

  1. Shouldnt it be Mislintat’s number 1 target instead since hes fully incharged of the recruitment?

  2. I know absolutely nothing about this guy save what I’ve heard in the last week or so. Maybe he’ll be great, maybe not. All I know is that he is 21 years old and inexperienced. For me we need an experienced CB right now (whose name isn’t Mustafi) to mentor Chambers, Holding, Mavraponas and Bielek — not another kid who understandably wants to play every game.

      1. Why in hell do you think those are realistic targets. You just like reeling out players names without acknowledging the reality on ground. Can arsenal pay the required transfer fee? Do their clubs want to sell them?. Those players you keep mentioning are unknown before their clubs took a risk on them and become good why can’t we do that with ours. What our boys need is proper coaching and now we have someone who is capable of giving them that. Juve took risk on Pogba @ 19 when manu weren’t ready to take risk with him and went to buy him back for 100m euro. It is not like we all think we can win the league next season. Why not take a risk and see what Emery can do . Not saying i won’t take another CB but I will take a younger one. All we need is to buy smart, buy young and buy experience. Caglar, Pellegrini, Rabiot, Pavon, etc tick all boxes for me.

  3. sokratis is a done deal so is lichsteiner. Both are experienced players. All we need is a DM and a winger. I think sokratis lichsteiner william carvalho and a decent winger should be enough for the window.

    1. Good if we get Sokratis, Soyuncu and Lichsteiner, because Mustafi/ Koscielny have to be replaced and Bellerin needs a strong competitor

I don’t know about Carvalho, but a Premier League proven DM like Ndidi would be good and a pacey left-footed winger would make Arsenal ready for the next season

Do you hear anything about Bailey, Malcom, Janujaz, Draxler, Mahrez or Bale transfer rumors?

      1. Dude ,don’t incourage him ffs
He’s doesn’t know anymore than sky sports or bbc ,just look at them if u wanna know who we are interested in

        1. every “itk” was so wrong about the manager appointment, and are regularly wrong about transfers yet people still listen to them. No deal is done yet because Arsenal have not announced anything. There is only interest that is confirmed and then people just jump the gun. We’ve seen Arsenal bounce back and forth between who they want for years yet people still claim to be in the know.

  4. Interesting. We will see Emerys approach

Now this will be a good example of a expressing interest and our manager’s response.

    Wenger’s Approach/Philosophy
ie Mahrez, Lemar basically saying to Arsenal “come and get me” and Wenger sitting twiddling his thumbs or waiting until to late lol.

    What will Emery do?

  5. we need to sell laccazate, ramsey to buy top midfielder n cb. then buy a winger.
and clear out wilshire plz, he is allargic to me

      1. I totally agree… Sell Lacazette and Ramsey… What’s he smoking over there? Do people not expect us to build with a solid bench? Only thinking about the starting 11 is what makes top class managers eh? Ridiculous

        1. ?Apparently Arsenal only plays in one competition and the starting 11 goes through the season injury free! Can we come back to the real world please.

  6. I don’t think this is going to happen, if he is a real talent chances are someone will snap him up first the comments from seri’s agent summed up Arsenal’s transfer business when he said we take a long time and if this guy is half as good as he’s being touted as being that price will shoot up after the world cup

      1. I meant Soyuncu will play at the World Cup. I was just using what seri’s agent said to highlight why I doubt we will get Soyuncu. If you look at what emery said as well about giving all the players a chance most likely we will get one cb and Lichtsteiner on a free. Let’s hope I’m wrong after all I don’t have a crystal ball but nothing that has led us up to this point would lead me to believe we will invest so heavily on a 21 year old when we already have 3 young centre backs who may stil develop

          1. I agree I think a loan for holding would be a good idea with a team playing in the premier League. Whoever we sign in defence needs to be someone who will lead the defence with Cech aging and past his prime and kos out we need someone who is willing to do the dirty work and keep everyone focused.

  7. Firstly, it is great to see that this – the sixth article in a row which is looking forward NOT BACKWARDS, MERCIFULLY – is discussing our greatest need, centre backs of quality. It seems totally clear that the new set up is fully concentrated on this urgent need. With Merts retiring from playing, Kos effectively finished and Mustafi, hopefully put out for the rubbish man to remove,( or in actuality, sold ASAP) then we will soon have some proper, young, keen and powerful real defenders playing. This, along with some actual defensive coaching – a NOVELTY at Arsenal for some considerable time past – will transform our team. More important than mere new players is a complete change in attitude throughout. What has been acceptable can no longer be accepted. Ferocious will to win MUST from now on be the norm by ALL eleven on the pitch at any time.

  8. I follow the bundesliga very well. The lad plays exactly like mat hummels when he was at Dortmund. If we eventually sign him, am sure he will become very great considering he won’t be playing under Wenger who doesn’t improve defenders.

    1. 2 footed ball playing CB. 21years of age, Full turkish starting International. Can develop at Arsenal without a doubt, lets be honest 35m is a snip if hes that good. Him & Mavraponas future starting CBs in say 2-3years time.

  9. The one signing I would have loved Arsenal to make is Julian Wiegl. He will be our own fernandinho. Forget the numerous talk about Fred, Jorginho etc. Wiegl is the real deal. When Tuchel got appointed at BVB he quickly signed him from 1860 Munich and built is play around him. He was so efficient at it. Right age, Right style, and should not be too expensive because he isn’t going to the world cup and Dortmund had a bad season under stoger. Their new coach Favre might not be too keen to let him go anyway because favre’s style of play is tailor made for a player like Wiegl.

  10. Those raving about serious, you really need to watch him play apart from YouTube. If Ramsey is going to remain at Arsenal then signing Seri is a waste. He is not a DM. He is a CM who hold the ball well and play with short passes. Though Aaron Ramsey is a box to box midefielder. A good DM with the quality of fernandinho or busquet can make Seri contribution look insignificant. Emery plays 4231. The two in from of the 4 man defence should be Ramsey and another DM. A DM who can dictate the play, stay put and have a great understanding of the game. Nzozi is doing that for Sevilla, fernandinho for city, Williams carvalho for Portugal, busquet for Barca, casemiro for Real, Wiegl for Dortmund. That role is the heart of the team. It requires calm, great understanding of the game, great tackler, positioning must be world class. If we sort that out you all will be awed at our improved our defence will become overnight.

    1. I think the club is sticking with Xhaka unfortunately. The fact we are consistently linked with CM’s instead of CDM’s would suggest that either Ramsey is set to leave, or Emery wants to play a 4-3-3 with 2 CM’s in midfield and a holding player. It’ll be interesting to see what he does with Ozil and if he rates him. I have low hopes of getting a new CDM though. The one position we’ve needed to fill for at this point over a decade.

      1. But if he plays with two CM and one holding midfielder where are we going to play our 350k per week Ozil? Do you know I even rate mihki behind the striker than ozil? This season will really be an eye opener for us all. We will know those players who have been drawing us backwards. More will be asked of ozil in his overall play and let’s wait and see how he will react to that change. Guy is so lazy. Modric was tasked with helping out Lucas Vasquez at right back against Bayern at Bernabeu because carvajal was out and Vasquez was a makeshift RB. He ran after Ribery and even slide from the side to sweep away the ball out of play when Ribery look to break. Doing all these and still pulling strings in the middle in that same match. And we wonder why that team won UCL three times in a row. Commitment! Commitment!! I have never seen ozil do that in an arsenal shirt even if we are trying to defend a lead in the closing stage of a match.

        1. I have huge doubts too about Ozil staying around for long under Emery. I hope to be wrong and if I am , that will clearly mean that Ozil has, FINALLY, cottoned on to the fact he needs to work far harder and consistently so, to make the most of his prodigious talent. Up to him. And Emery of course. But we need shirkers like we need another twelve years of Weed Walcott poncing about in our shirt, while hiding from the action.

          1. My only concern about Oziil is that he needs class players around him ,he’s the kind of player that needs that freedom role ,like you said can he transform into that getting back pressing kind of player ,that’s up to him .but he does have that classy type of play to him but does he suit arsenal ,I’m not so sure

        2. Well Modric is actually world class and there is no player like him haha. Amazing performance from him yesterday as well. He’s a pretty small guy but still puts in the effort. Ozil will never change his game at this point and it’s better to accept he will always be a defensive liability, and ontop of that highly inconsistent. It’d be a big decision to not have Ozil be starter but I’m all for it. I don’t care about his high wages or reputation. He hasn’t done enough to be a certified starter. It doesn’t even come down to him not working hard. In terms of attack, he only puts in a performance when he feels like it. Can’t have players like that if you want to win the big trophies.

  11. Tony why should we sell Lacazette? That’s a big no for me, I’d rather have Ozil sold than Laca, he’s a beast. We need him and Auba. Ramsey, Xhaka and Mustafi can go. We’ll then need to bring N’Zonzi, Seri, Sokratis, Koulibally, Forsberg, or even try to hijack Alderweireld, and Leno or Oblak

    1. Ozil is one player I would want to be sold too. I remember the day mesut ozil made his debut after signing for 42m. That same day eriksen make his debut for Spurs after signing for 10m. I remember pundits comparing the impact both will have in the course of the season. In hindsight they got the better deal. Ozil is not a bad player but eriksen is more suited to the Epl. Ozil also refused to evolve over the years. I remember when David Silva made his debut for city against Spurs in 2010 too. He looked and play fragile but over the years he maintained his game but improved his marking and intensity. Ozil sadly did not. Ozil ought to be having the impact of Silva for us. Even little modric was getting himself stuck into o tackles yesterday. Explains why ozil is a waste of space and time. He should have been shipped early!

      1. Great observation

I think Ozil was not shipped out because no club had real interest in him. Hence they might extended his contract to be able to sell him next season

        1. Even if we get half of what we paid for Ozil will be a handsome business and save his wages

      2. great point about Modric and Silva. Ozil never had any real excuses, he’s just refused to do it.

  12. I think Arsenal and Wenger was Ozil’s problem. They made him feel too important. The Ozil I watch in the German team is a beast, he performs his defensive duties with the German team. With Low, he is a world beater but with arsene he is bullshit. I hope Emery can trigger that ozil we all want to see.
Let’s give him a season under Emery.
