‘Tottenham star in shadow of Arsenal’s Wilshere’ claims England boss

England manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed that Jack Wilshere is ahead of Eric Dier of Tottenham and Danny Drinkwater of Leicester City.

The 24 year-old is yet to feature this season, but that does not appear to have had any effect on Hodgson favour for him, and looks a shoe in for the European Championship squad if he can prove his fitness.

Wilshere is due to return to action next month, which will leave him just under two months to prove his match fitness, prior to Hodgson picking his final playing squad on June 1.

But the Arsenal man is said to be ahead of rivals Drinkwater and Dier in the England chief’s pecking order already, after he admitted they are in his shadow at present despite the latter impressing also.

He said: “He [Dier] did it against France, that’s for sure, and does it for Tottenham,” said Hodgson.

“I’ve been very impressed so have called him up with Drinkwater, who does a similar job for Leicester City.

“They’re still in the shadow of Jack Wilshere, who did so well for us before his injury. If all three were available for the Euros, that’d be a nice headache because there might not be space for all three.”

Jack might have a tough time earning a starting place in Arsenal’s squad however, with Mohamed Elneny impressing in the central role since joining in January.

The North-London boy will have the advantage of being fresh on his return however, and could help in his push for game-time, and will certainly be eager to hit the ground running to ensure a place in the Euro 2016 squad.

Should Wilshere be a shoe-in for the England team? Or does he need to earn it with Dier and Drinkwater enjoying impressive seasons?
