Europa League wins not enough to lift the gloom hanging over Arsenal

A big Europa League win over Vitoria on Wednesday will not ease the pressure on Unai Emery.

Such is the atmosphere at Arsenal right now that even a huge win away at Vitoria in the Europa League on Wednesday afternoon will not be enough to either relieve the pressure on Unai Emery or lift the gloom hanging over the club.

The more I think about it the more I am convinced that nothing short of a significant winning run will suffice for the fans.

The game against Vitoria is really a lose lose situation for Emery. If Arsenal wins it is basically meaningless in terms of the big picture. If Arsenal loses it will increase the calls for Emery to be sacked.

Beating a relatively average Portuguese side is not going to persuade the Emery out brigade to change their minds.

What is required is, as an example, an away win over Tottenham or Man City or home wins over Liverpool and Man City and so on. Additionally, big convincing wins over the smaller teams is also required.

Consistency, comfortable wins, entertaining play and a sense of stability will lift the cloud of despair at the Emirates. That will only come about via the Premier League.

Of course, that is just my own personal opinion but I doubt too many Arsenal fans will disagree. Most now want Emery out if the media reports are anything to go by. Nothing short of a huge turnaround in fortunes will change their minds.

So, beating Vitoria will, of course, be enjoyable and a break from the depressing performances we have seen recently. But it will not change anything.

  1. As an Arsenal fan first I always cheer my team and always want us to Win. I’m always happy when we win

When I wanted Wenger fired, I still supported the team and him during matchplay

So I hope we beat Vitoria SC

That said. We should NOT start any of these players:
    Leno
    Bellerin
    Tierney
    Holding
    Luiz
    Torreira
    Guendouzi
    Ceballos
    Aubameyang
    Pepe
    Lacazette

    Keep them rested for Leicester

  2. We look a poor side at the moment,we have some very talented players at the club,Ozil Lacazette, Auba,Tierney, willock,Saka Martinelli, but unfortunately this Coach does not seem to be able to get the best out of them for one reason or another,we are looking decidedly Mediocre or worse.
The only way things will improve is with a new Manager with fresh ideas and tactical knowhow, these players need a lift and very soon or it is going to be too late we have to start getting results this side of Xmas because that is a very tricky part of the season to negotiate the games come thick and fast and you need to know your best team,Emery still does not ,and is changing the side willy nilly because he doesn’t know how to get out of this mess.

  3. Agreed, a win will not relieve the pressure, a loss will only increase it beyond the breaking point that has already been reached.

But win or lose, this is my team and I will support them come what may. COYG

  4. I still see a ray of hope.Maybe our sport director Edu had a chance to talk with Emery telling him that he is totally wrong in his ideas and unless he change he will be sacked.Emery will react and wake up or will resign.Hopefully we will have a “new” coach next week.

  5. Emery must go for the team results to improve. Too much negativity and toxicity in and around Emirates. This is not the Arsenal we all love so much. Emery is taking us downhill.
