Failed Yaya Sanogo set for Arsenal return

The French youngster Yaya Sanogo looked to be an incredible prospect when Arsenal signed him from Auxerre two summers ago. He was 20 years old, 6ft 4in tall, and had an excellent scoring record of 26 goals in 52 games for the French club.

But at Arsenal he lost his scoring boots and although given 14 games in his first year at the club, he failed to find the net once, although he had the pleasure of playing in the FA Cup semi’final and the Final as Arsenal won their first trophy in nine years.

Last season, despite a 4-goal blitz against Benfica in the Emirates Cup,he only played six games in the first half of the season, and scored his only ever competitive goal for the Gunners against Dortmund in the Champions League. But he had fallen out of favour by Christmas and was sent out on loan to Crystal Palace where he scored once in 11 outings, and yet again that was an FA Cup game, so he is still yet to score in any League match.

This season he has been sent off to Ajax to work under Frank De Boer and Denis Bergkamp and, again, nabbed a hat-trick in a pre-season friendly win over a Qatari side, but in five appearances for the first team he has failed to score or impress his new bosses, even in training matches.

Now the Dutch press are reporting that Ajax have had enough of Sanogo and have given him a month to get his act together, or they will give up on him and he will be sent back to Arsenal for the rest of the season. We all wanted Wenger to bring in another striker this season, but this is one that we really do not want back! But you never know, Wenger may be able to work his magic and turn him into the new Henry yet….
