Forget it Chelsea! Petr Cech tells Leno ‘I intend to stay and fight’

Shock Chelsea target Petr Cech has once again announced that he intends to stay at Arsenal this summer and challenge Bernd Leno for the number one spot.

The ageing 36-year old has become a headline in the media over the last few days, as reports have circulated that Chelsea are lining up a move to try and tempt him back to Stamford Bridge as they seek an immediate replacement for Thibaut Courtois.

It is no secret the Blues are on the verge of losing their number one this summer, as reports have emerged which claim he is ready to pack his bags and head back to Spain, where his family currently reside.

And Cech, who kept his 200th Premier League clean sheet last season, is high up on the shopping list with Unai Emery ready to hand the number one jersey to Leno.

However, he has come out fighting and has warned Leno that he intends to stay at the club and ‘honour his contract’

“I said from the start I want to stay and fight for my place in the team and I will honour my contract, unless the club tells me to go,” Cech told Sky Sports News.

“I am performing hard and training hard every day to be ready and be ready for when my opportunity comes.

“I want to show the manager I can be the starting goalkeeper and all the players do the same and I think it’s great for the team.”

Leno arrives at the Emirates with something to prove having stagnated over the last few seasons during his time at Leverkusen, and could struggle to adapt to the Premier League.
And Cech, who is a seasoned professional, knows he has the experience and quality to keep Leno on the bench, something many expect to happen in the early stages of the new season.

  1. Waiting to see their competition. I think Cech would be given the chance to start and maybe he would be replaced by Leno if he underperforms

Strong internal competitions are highly required at Arsenal. We have seen the good effect at Man United between Young/ Shaw and Valencia/ Darmian

If Arsenal do not buy new players anymore, these are the potential internal competitions:

    – GK: Cech and Leno
    – RB: Lichtsteiner and Bellerin
    – LB: Monreal and Kolasinac
    – CB: Mustafi, Sokratis, Chambers, Mavropanos
    – DM: Torreira, Guendouzi, Elneny
    – CM: Ramsey, Xhaka, Maitland-Niles, Smith-Rowe
    – CAM: Ozil, Iwobi (maybe this would be a weak competition for Ozil?)
    – LW: Aubameyang, Perez
    – RW: Mkhitaryan, Nelson
    – CF: Aubameyang, Lacazette

    1. Good write up and observation GAI. Competition is what the team needs to challenge at the top. Better quality of players are needed to challenge for the title though.

  2. Hurrah it’s match day!! Another screamer from Smith Rowe?

I would like to see Leno given a chance, yes Cech has bags of experience but he is getting on

  3. I want to make something clear to Jon Fox.. I saw what you said about me in of the articles that I do exaggerate my expectations for arsenal…that arsenal winning the league and the Europa league titles can never happen this season…let me make something clear to you Jon Fox..I’m not like you..i believe in arsenal and Emery…first and foremost I’m adie hard fan of ArsenalFC…I’m sure you saw that name right ArsenalFC..That’s a club that should always be challenging for trophies at all front because the club is used to success and so the fans think highly of them… You claim i should be a realist and always try to belittle my club like most of you guys try to do here.. You guys feel we don’t have the players at all to challenge…and I’m really sorry about you guys belief… My club is a big club and I expect them to challenge…afterall I’m not supporting Derby..So if Arsenal fail me by not meeting my lofty expectations for them then no problem we would try again next season…and if it continues that way we would go on and on like that still giving them high expectations….but one thing is for sure I would never belittle ARSENAL in any way because they shouldn’t be belittled….even when a Lion walks around in the jungle without eyes the other animals will still be scared of it just because of hs history of domination…That’s Arsenal………….even when your standing fan is old, engine always hot and making Cricket sounds you still expect it to give you cool breeze because that’s what it was made for… that’s what a fan expect from a big club………….. Jon Fox I would advise you to respect other people opinions….i believe arsenal will win the league and Europa league if it doesn’t happen then it is not our year..then we would move on to the next season with the same expectation but i would never ever belittle arsenal because we are the Arsenal……thank you………. from a proud Nigerian!!!!!!!!!!

        1. I think being positive is good but some fans just want to be realist of their expectations. I know Jon fox and a few others are realist. They also want the best for the club and silently would love to be surprised.

    1. In others words a true Arsenal fan doesn’t denounce the club because its not a winner at the end of the season. I go with that.

      I add

A true Arsenal fan doesn’t denounce a player because he has a bad game.

      Misses an open goal.

      Scores an own goal

The goalie has an attack of butter fingers

The manager doesn’t field the team you think he should field

The manager doesn’t use the right sub

The true Arsenal fan understands that his team doesn’t have the right to win everything, every time.

The true Arsenal fan keeps the ‘faith’ and hope never turns to despair.

    2. Chiza ??. We need more positive thoughts and words on this sites. I for one, I’m tired of the negativity that reeks here always. I support everything you said

    3. From one Nigerian to another, love ur comment Sir. Your type is rare, this is what support is about…

    1. By the way, I think Cech looked ripped in the Atletico game, fitter than I’ve ever seen him and totally committed. The competition between our keepers this season will be interesting to watch.

      1. ?Petr Cech is a proud professional under contract to the Arsenal. He will want to prove his worth to the new manager Unai Emery, his team mates and Arsenal fans. If Bernd Leno performs well enough to supplant Cech, then that should be positive for the team. Competition for places is a positive. Why would Cech wish to return to Chelsea with the current instability there?

  4. This bit about the Lion with no eyes and the other bit about the fan not working properly-I’ve got to tell you it brought a tear to my eye.Very imotional I am now going to adopt a blind Lion as a pet and care for it for the rest of its life.Im also going to go out and buy a broken fan so I can listen to the cricket.

  5. I like Chiza’s positivity and I enjoy reading his comments..Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and we should all respect that. Having said that, maybe Fox holds the view that we aint ready yet and it’s totally fine. However, personal attacks sometimes indicate some level of immaturity which is absurd when the man in question is your grandfather’s age

  6. Chiza my Igbo brother! you have made perfect sense there! supporting Arsenal had taught me never to despair, whenever expectations are not met! Bring it on Emery! we are the gunners and we will gun them all down, next season!
