Four Arsenal first team players released now they need to be replaced

It was officially announced today that Arsenal has released seven players including four first-teamers and they will now need to be replaced.

The first team players now off the books are Petr Cech who has retired, Aaron Ramsey left of his own accord and Stephan Lichtsteiner and Danny Welbeck have been released without being offered new deals.

Bernd Leno will definitely need a backup and that could possibly be David Ospina, however, the club has been linked with the likes of Valencia goalkeeper Norberto Murara so a new signing maybe on the cards.

Stephan Lichtsteiner position is almost certainly going to be taken by the returning Hector Bellerin but he will need cover that is for certain.

The role of Aaron Ramsey is one we have been trying to find a successor for some time now and if the latest reports are to be believed that could well be Sampdoria Dennis Praet.

Finally, Danny Welbeck, now that he has gone we could take the opportunity to give one of our talented youngsters a chance but just today it was reported that we have tabled an offer for Club Brugge striker Emmanuel Dennis, which we covered here.

Of course, there are a ton of other players we have been linked within most of those positions, though not so much a back-up keeper and so it could easily be totally different to the names I have mention but regardless, replacements will be needed.

The question is, who?

  1. If Arsenal are looking for bargain buys:

    Cech -> Martinez and Macey

Ramsey -> Pablo Sarabia. 12 goals/ 13 assists, his release clause is 18 M and his contract will expire in next year

Lichtsteiner -> Bellerin, Maitland-Niles and maybe Meunier. Meunier is not as good as Bellerin in attacking, but he has excellent aerial ability and his contract will end next year

Welbeck -> Nelson, Malcom or Adama Traore. Barcelona might want to offload Malcom and Traore is chased by Napoli

    1. Traore cant even get in the Wolves starting eleven. hes a impact sub at best. we need quality additions otherwise there is no point.

    2. Thanks for the info Gotanidea, it’s always good to hear that someone does actually have views on what to do or what could be worth looking into ..rather than the that one! guy who does nothing but talk smack.

Don’t know Sarabia, his numbers are decent if he plays same position as Ramsey, more than decent actually, our wingers haven’t been reaching those numbers never mind a CM player, Ozil should’ve been reaching that in an average season.

    1. As what happened to Ignacio Miguel, Toral and Bennacer, Bramall and Pleguezuelo are deemed not good enough to compete with the first team players

I guess only the highly talented ones like Ramsey and Iwobi can stand out against the main Gunners

  2. OT:Hazard to real Madrid 130millions,great news,130 millions they won’t be able to spend for 2 windows?

    1. They’ve put in an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, so the ban if upheld, will be suspended, so they will be able to spend the money.

  3. Hopefully replacements for Lichtsteiner and Ramsey are upgrades, otherwise rather see our youngsters given backup role instead of frees like Lichtsteiner. Martinez as backup GK, Eddie as a ST, and bring in top CM which we desperately need.

Lots to be done during the rebuild, rather see 2 top players this year and next instead of 4 average players this Summer.

  4. Praet and Anderson sounds like average players to me but hope I’m wrong if they come.

We need a better player than Ramsey in that position to team with Torreira

We need a solid replacement for Koscielny. Ideally I’d prefer a CB with PL experience but unlikely

There is far too much of rebuild required to fix this team. Will take 2-3 seasons to rebuild the squad

    1. I have to agree with you, we need so many quality players in key positions its going to be impossible to do in this window alone. I will suppory whoever we bring in but my god we have a massive task ahead this coming season.

  5. Why is nobody talking about Chukwueze? that boy can solve our problems, as a good winger

  6. Alot of people saying dennis praet is an average player.

watch a full game of him.

plays on the right side of a midfield three, great link between defence and attack.

not a fancy player but goes about doing his job well and very tidy in posession.

next season we might see a 4-3-3

    leno
    bellerin….sokratis….anderson….monreal

    praet…..xhaka…torreira

    auba..laca…carrasco.

  7. Ramsey>bruno fernandes-cech>nubel-welbeck>carrasco-then add ziyech,hermoso and fekir

  8. So 4 bench warmers need replacing?

Sorry but I don’t see how that is necessary Martinez, bellerin, willock and nketiah can easily replace those 4.

What we need to do is sell the old and the dross, buy a completely new back 4, a midfield dominate and a winger who can play left and right. Oh and get a decent manager who knows that a team is built on its defence

  9. I dont understand managers
If Cazorla can walk you dont just let him go, not when the replacement is Xhaka and that kid from France

  10. The dumbest decision ever by emery letting Santi go.. Our best creative midfilder when fit…

    1. What a silly comment. Santi was finished at top PREM level because of his dreadful LONG injury and fast increasing age. If you really imagine Emery would EVER have let a fit SANTI IN HIS PRIME LEAVE YOU MUST BE EVEN DAFTER THAN YOUR POST SHOWS YOU TO BE. Everyone knows Santi was TOP CLASS. WAS, however, not IS!!

  11. Now, because Santi has like done a Tiger Woods so many are belatedly bemoaning his release last summer. To my recollections no one at that time criticized it as a bad call. To now dress the manager down on account of that decision is grossly unfair. He is a manager, not a seer or prophet, afterall.

      1. Clearly though not the player he once WAS. It was right to let him go. The Prem demands regular fitness, esp in midfield and non ageing legs. Harking after yesterdays men when they are past their best is fools gold and will not make you rich in silverware. Pun unintended!

  12. These are big positions to be filled. Ramsey is a big position, you need more than two players in that position because they eventually run out of steam and their levels will drop, as they did. Welbeck, another big position, many fans prob wanted him ahead of Iwobi and you need to rest the strikers from time. Litch, another one, Maitland done ok in the most part but if Litch had of been what he was supposed to be, that was important with Bellerin out. Then Maitland could have played wide forward or CM. As for Cech, again, it’s an important position to have a decent backup or someone who has higher ambitions than that. That goes for them all, they might be squad players leaving but it doesn’t mean the guys coming in are gonna settle for that.
