Gabriel Jesus has shed light on his departure from Arsenal this summer as he begins a new chapter as a player for Barcelona in Spain, having spent four years on the books of Arsenal.
Jesus was one of the signings who helped take Arsenal to a new level and remained one of their important players during his time with the team, although he was never a prolific striker.
Jesus Finds Himself Out Of Favour
Jesus suffered a long-term injury that appeared to end the Gunners’ reliance on him. When he returned, Arsenal had signed Viktor Gyokeres, while Jesus was already behind Kai Havertz in the pecking order at the club.
The Gunners then asked Jesus to leave, and he was omitted from their matchday squad during the opening games of the season, which came as a surprise to some fans.
Fans had expected Jesus to remain part of the squad until he left the club, but that did not happen. The forward has now revealed that he was even told not to train with the team.

Jesus Reveals Training Decision
Jesus explained that he had completed Arsenal’s pre-season preparations before being separated from the rest of the squad. The Daily Mail reported his comments, as he said:
‘The truth is I was training, I did all the pre-season training with Arsenal normal and then obviously I knew already that probably I will not play there or get some opportunity.
‘But no-one told me nothing.
‘I’m a professional you know and then obviously I was training with the group and then from nothing they put me to train away from the group.’
His comments provide an insight into how his final period at Arsenal unfolded before his move to Barcelona. Jesus had continued to train despite recognising that his opportunities were likely to be limited.
The decision to separate him from the group ultimately confirmed that his time with the Gunners was coming to an end. His departure followed a difficult period in which injury had affected his position within the team.

So here are some simple rules which I must insist commenters follow….
You agree not to give any personal abuse to other Arsenal fans. Everyone is allowed to hold their own opinions even if you disagree with them. It COSTS NOTHING TO BE POLITE TO OTHER ARSENAL FANS.

If true then maybe the club could have communicated with him better. But him actually training away from the main squad isn’t such a big deal if you ask me.
Training alone keeps the risk of accidental injury’s out of the aquation. If he got injured and lets face it he was no stranger to the treatment room, then his chances of being sold to a team lets not forget is being reported that Jesus had wanted to join for a while.
So Arsenal were doing both him and them a favour. And I must say I find it difficult to have much sympathy with a player who spent a lot of his time at the club injured, and picking up a hefty wage while it was going on to.
Yes Derek
And it becomes increasingly tiresome reading reports after Jesus has signed for Barcelona. Unless I’m missing something from the interview he didn’t mind a jot being second choice behind Alcarez in the pecking order.
It’s a bit difficult having to accept that one chapter is closed but that’s a problem with the ego
Agree SueP, and it kind of bothers me that journalists take advantage of the situation when they know players will say and feel things that they wouldn’t otherwise normally. It isn’t easy to not say things we don’t really mean when we are emotional and they know that.
Derek, I have to admit anything said negatively against Arsenal from Jesus does seems a little rich (pardon the pun) given the tens of millions he raked in while injured or not fully fit for the pitch.
I wouldn’t expect there to be communication with players regarding the club’s efforts to make a transfer until there is an agreement, at which time the buyer would want the player’s approval. I would also not expect a player to continue training with the club after a certain point in the negotiations between the clubs. Nothing to see here, just ego mixed in with emotions and while I have always been a big supporter of Jesus (I even wanted him in the UCL final last summer) and thankful for the positive impact he had many years ago, I am disappointed with what I see as his unprofessional comments here.
Good evening Bruised Banana and SueP,
I agree with both you’re posts. 👍
But he came on as a sub recently so I take all this with a large ‘pinch of salt’ that he was more or less disregarded.
It took Jesus 2 minutes off the bench to score for Barca in the UCL this evening. Good for him.
Thank you Gabriel for your amazing contribution to the Arsenal team. I will always remember your cheeky goals and helping Arsenal win the Title in 2026. Good Luck.:)
No accusation Jesus. All in all your contribution to the success of Arsenal was minimal though the highest earner. You need to see that side as well
On reflection having seen the interview, he wasn’t bad mouthing Arsenal at all. He was just saying what happened in his last days as an Arsenal player no malice in his voice, just answering a question in a calm and dignified way.
Isn’t it amazing how things come across out of context. On reading the original report, it was made to sound like he was complaining, when in reality he wasn’t.
Exactly Derek – well sported and reported.
Ken1945,
Good afternoon. 👍👍
