German FA President demands an apology from Mesut Ozil

Poor old Mesut Ozil is still getting hounded despite the abuse hurled at the Arsenal midfielder on Germany’s exit from the World Cup. Now the President of the DFB (German FA) Reinhard Grindel is demanding that Ozil gives a public explanation of why he was photographed with the Turkish President Iyyip Erdogan on the day before the World Cup began.

Grindel has indicated the matter had not yet been closed by the DFB and won’t be so until they have been given a statement by Ozil.

“It’s true that Mesut has not commented yet, which has disappointed many fans because they have questions and expect an answer, and they rightly expect that answer,” Grindel said.

“So it’s very clear to me that Mesut, when he returns from vacation, should also publicly give his view.

“We also want to wait and see how Mesut gets involved. It’s fair we give a well-deserved international who made a mistake a chance.”

This is what has angered Ozil’s father, who retorted: “[Ozil] no longer wants to explain himself, he no longer wants to have to defend himself all the time.

“He has been playing for nine years in the German team… including becoming world champions. He has contributed a lot for this country. It has always been: if we win, we win together.

“But when we lose, we lose because of Ozil? He is now getting whistled at and made a scapegoat. I can understand if he feels insulted.

“He needs to decide for himself. But if I were in his place, I’d say ‘thanks a lot but that’s it!’ The hurt has grown too strong. And who knows what’ll happen at the next match.

“In Mesut’s place, I would step down. But that’s just my very personal opinion.”

When will the persecution end? This can’t be very good for Ozil’s state of mind as he is supposed to be relaxing to prepare for the new Arsenal season….

I hope he quits, he’s not appreciated, it’s always down to him when they lose. You deserve better Mesut!

    1. Goonstar

And when they win they always give him “German Player of The Year” 5 years in. a row even if not deserved. Can’t have it both ways. He needs to stop being egotistical and just apologise. Stop being a narcissistic and apologise. Smh

      1. Phil

Apologise FOR WHAT?Explain to me what Mesut Ozil did wrong?Lets not forget Gundagan was with him at the time.If Ozil feels he does not need to apologise then I absolutely agree with him.The German press have made this a far bigger story than what it really is.The German President (come on-did anyone know Germany HAD a President?) is making this Political.Thete is NOTHING IN THIS STORY.Mesut Ozil has done NOTHING WRONG and therefore has NOTHING TO APOLOGISE FOR.

        1. jon fox

Phil , I have not commented on this matter as there is no matter to comment on. IT IS JUST NONSENSE. Forget it and move on to things that matter.

      2. Lance

Goonstar, Why do you want Ozil to apologise? Apologise for what? What has he done wrong? Taking a photograph with President Erdogan of Turkey cannot be a crime even if most Germans don’t like Erdogan’s politics. DFB president Reinhard Grindel wants an explanation from Ozil as to why he took a photograph with Erdogan. I hope he isn’t calling Ozil a traitor. Would Grindel ask Jerome Boateng for an explanation if Boateng were to meet the Ghanaian president? Ozil owes him no explanation. If American basketball player Dennis Rodman were German then he would have been crucified for being friends with Kim Jong-un.

  2. Badenglish

The Problem for germany is that Merkel want Özil in the national team. Özil can play so long time he want. The only Chance for thevteam is that he quit. Everthing in germany is ruled by politic

  3. achaks

Germany has some better players that should have started games for them but decided to pack bayern players and dotmond. Sane, goreska etc

  4. Tom

Only good news for Arsenal. Ozil comes back to a new manager, and new feel at Arsenal – and he needs a new vibe after the negative ones from Germans World Cup fall out. He now has a fit Ramsay Mkhit beside him and Auba up top. The magic is waiting…

      1. Someone

Then maybe you should follow another team for the next 20 years instead of making negative comments like that.

          1. Phil

Looking at Germany during the World Cup I completely disagree Germany have the quality of players they used to.They performed like an ageing team with zero pace and movement.Too many players didn’t turn up.The GK should never have played after missing nearly the whole season with injury. The back four were a joke defensively.Kroos and Khedera were continually caught out of position and both have little or no pace.Muller was non existent.Timo Wermer is over rated and wS shown to be out of his depth,
So while I believe Emery has a lot of work to do at the Emirates to re address the mess of the final Wenger years The German Manager has a much harder job on his hands sorting that lot out

  5. ks-gunner

Germany should only call up on the national team the likes of players who breath and bleed towards that country they call their own. Mesut even today cant speak german that well which tells a lot about his sort.

Mesut is being criticized not only bec of the late action alone, but also bec of his attitude. Lazy and entitled and gutless.

I was the biggest Mesut fanboy the world has ever seen, but with the way he plays and him running away with 300k + is simple criminal to me. Sell him asap to a chines team the moment the chance would be given to us. Thats what i trully wish to see.

    1. Alatari Douglas

U can’t replace Ozil easily in Arsenal boss, just take a good look at what he has done for Arsenal FC. He’s a loyal fella so he doesn’t deserve all these criticisms here & there. If u were in his shoes would u be happy?

      1. ks-gunner

Yes you can and we dont even need to go out and look up for a replacement as we do own the players who can do the job. Loyal to who and what? Actions speak louder then words and wishes.

      2. Goonstar

Ozil is easily replaced. He has been average at best. He is not Henry, Cesc, RVP, Bergkamp even Sanchez etc. The guy is still riding on his Madrid glory, nothing more. He averages about 7-8 assists per season, hides in crucial games, takes strategic breaks during thr season and on we pay him £300,000 a week? I put my money on it, we would not even notice that he is not here with the current team. Only his avid Fanboys would miss him. Made absolutely no impact on Arsenal apart from dividing fans..

        1. Phil

Really?OK then football genius.Tell me who you will get to replace him with.I will look forward to your answer

    2. Gabie

Why dint you sell your mother ? Ozil has been p,suing like this since at Madrid . Go and play with your dogs you haters may be you are Germany fan. Ozil doesn’t need ppl like you fool . Ppl are talking rubbish about Ozil if they win is ok but if they loose is Ozil what’s the hell . Does Ozil play as a defender or keeper . You fool

    3. Mobella

Now it 300 not 350. I have seen 300, 350, 375, 250, 275. Nobody actually know what he is earning so everyone should cease quoting amount they don’t have proof for and using that as a point when discussing Ozil.

      1. Goonstar

What is says is that he is on too much money compared to his contribution to tye team. He should be on the £100,000’s, not £200,000’s and definitely not £300,000’s. That’s the whole point. £200,000’s and £300,000 is for crucial match changers and match winners. With Ozil it’s because he has a very loyal fanbase / Twitter warriors that think he is the best thing to have ever happened to them and Arsenal etc. Lol

        1. Phil

Ok let’s work the money out a bit shall we.
Let’s say Ozil had left at the end of last season on a free as his contract was up .Then let’s say we bought the Mesut Ozil of Five years ago.Lets say we paid £60m for him and he had a Three Year contract.Lets say his wages were agreed at £200k per week.I would have thought most supporters would have been delighted the Club did this business for this Fee and WagesSo for the Fee of £60m and a wage of £200k a week for a truly gifted footballer on a three year contract it would cost the Club a total of £91million.
Ozils new contract will have included image rights and signing on fee’s and bonuses and adds up to a total of £55million.
So if Arsenal had to go out a BUY a Mesut Ozil it would cost the Club circ £90-100million.We have the Player already and we get him fo THREE YEARS at half what it would if we let him leave for nothing and then tried to replace him.
Why don’t some of you supporters who are quick to criticise the reported £350k per week wages do what I just did.Pick up a calculator. Then sift through the Players Avaliable Columns And see WHO is available that is better than Mesut Ozil and for how much cost to the Club

          1. Goonstar

Bro, I couldn’t care about money. All i care about is a player that is worth it. Just having ozil on £300,000 a week just because you guys are so obsessed with him does nothing for me. I want players like make a massive difference to us on £300,000 a week. Not Ozil. He is absolutely not worth it. He has been here for 5 years and we finished 5th and 6th in the last 2 seasons where he averages about 7-8 assists a season. You can go on about this nonsense about Ozil is everything to Arsenal and once we lose him we are doomed. That is the ozil fanboy mentality. You boy has been here for 5 years and what exactly has he done for Arsenal that you will remember in 10 years time? Smh

    4. Lance

KS Gunner, if Ozil can’t speak German well as you claim, how did he pass through the German educational system? Remember he was born in Germany. Please tell me is it possible for someone born in England, educated in England and raised in England not to speak English well? No! Speaking English will come natural to him.

    5. jon fox

ks, It is simply untrue to claim that OZIL does not speak German “that well”. He IS GERMAN and I know for a fact , having heard him speak, that his German is faultless. What you wrote -in this week of Trump being in Britain – is FAKE NEWS! Honestly, some people and their ludicrous comments amaze normal folk like me. Why do you embarrass by yourself writing this lie?

  6. stubill

He should just tell them he owes them no explanation, and retire from international football, I don’t hear Gundogen being hounded for doing exactly the same thing.

Walk away, and don’t glance back.

  7. Tas

Germany didn’t need to ask him to play and Arsenal didn’t have to give him new contract but they both did because his a talented player when his mentally ok, and pls you all everyone is going on about his salary of 350K pw lets not forget he was a free agent we just added on sighning on fee on top of his wages it’s something like 30 million in three years, I’m sure we all agree that his wort more then 30M if you wanted to buy him, we are going to have to do something similar to Aaron Ramsey and we will all start attacking him everytime he has a bad game

    1. Goonstar

Some of us would not mind him because being on £300,000 a week as long as he showed that he deserves it. Being a free agent doesn’t mean you all of a sudden deserve £300,000 a week just because you took us for mugs by running down your contract. Smh

      1. Tas

Arsenal was in a wrong to run down his and Alexes contract, AW was desperate to keep them but he failed badly and cost us more money and bad results

  8. Innit

Well I hope it doesn’t affect him here. He didn’t exactly set the PL on fire with loads of assists last season, so we don’t need any distractions this season.

Speaking of Ozil, all we are really missing for him to do well this summer is Cazorla type central midfielder. He has Mkhitaryan beside him and fine strikers in front of him ie Aubameyang and Lacazette to score of him. And a very good defensive midfielder behind him (first since hes been here) in Torreira. But we need a good creative cm and excellent passer. Ramsey and Xhaka are not the creative spark Cazorla was.

Imagine if we had Aubameyang and Torreira in 2015-2016 when Ozil had 19 assists and we finished 2nd instead of Theo playing up front and Giroud going 12 PL matches without scoring.

Ozil needs to have a season like that again

  9. Gabie

Ozil doesn’t owe anyone for an explanation or apology . He is entitled to take any picture with anyone . All things comes out because Germany were knocked out ?? Foolish president . Hope Ozil takes his father’s word and quit that suck county Germany and takes foreigners like Boateng and sane

  10. Gabie

Why the stupid president doesn’t ask man city player to apology or to explain as he was with Ozil when they took a picture with Turkey president ? Gundagan why can’t he apology . Thus Germany ppl are stupid . They just want to frastrate Ozil . He needs to concentrate on Arsenal and forget about ppl who doesn’t appreciate him

  11. Nuruddeen

Why blame ozil after the hole team made alot of mistakes blame your selfs Germans, just Imagine how illogical this country are you guys are shouting non sense because of a simple photo. What a shame. Blame your in experience players like Timo Warner and kimmitch and hummels. Ozil did his part gave beautiful passes despite the fact that his teammates refuse to give him the ball to perform his magic when he needs it. Ozil silence is the best answer. I hope you quit.

  12. Nigel Hill

Typical German authorities like to dictate to people what they can and cannot do and blame the foreigners when it all goes wrong then persecute them. Is ozil Jewish by any chance??? Shouldn’t compare the 2 situations really but this is typical of the German mentality. Oil father is totally correct fk em

  13. RSH

omg who cares anymore. This is so dumb. Germany were garbage and they all stunk. The end. Try harder next tournament

  14. ruelando

Why the Germany football Fa president do not accept the facts, Ozil went to Turkey took a pic with Turkey president who is a fan (politically motivated), got curse out over it, but still was carried to russia, Germany got kicked out and now he is to Apologise FOR WHAT????

As a Jamaican and if i was in Ozil shoes i would have some choice words to tell the President of the German FA, but no Apology.

  15. John Ibrahim

    auba and laca guarantee goals…

with our defense tighten…theres no way we cant finish top 3

  16. musinguzi urban

the Germans nd their FA are forgetting what’s football..it’s a team nd wins together nd losses together..nothing like win together nd loose wz ozil.they hv been so lucky to hv him in their team for 9yrs..

they need to apologise to him instead..Ozil has no case to answer but has questions to be answered by the Germans..go on Ozil#10..

    1. Goonstar

A team sport where each individual player has to take responsibility for their own performances on the pitch and own actions off the pitch. Isn’t it?

  17. Jeremy

Seriously, let football be football. Footballers are human and entitled to own opinion.

Balls to the German FA if they insist on apology. We have seen worse and appearing in the picture together, what’s wrong?

  18. Gilbert

The guy Ozil knows what he wants in life keep it up mesut the Arsenal family is behind u Emry is waiting for u to assist Auba already its happening enjoy yo vacation

  19. Miztermann

.. …..Kroos has worldcup outing to 4get…..khedirah was sh**t…..nuer wasnt at his best…muller didn’t score single goal… Still, is all because of ozil and some foolish arsenal fans can’t stand by their player….. U always talk about his body language ..does xhaka body language make him the kind of player we want in him…..Body language aside, football intellectual aside don’t mix d two….. STAND BY UR PLAYER… He truly love the club and that’s all matters compare to sanchesz, van p,fabregas and co …..or u want to tell me he didn’t get any offer b4 staying put at arsenal….. Value the thing u have b4 u loose it….
