Giroud benched in official Arsenal team for PSG

The Arsenal and France international striker Olivier Giroud must have done something to upset the manager, or he must be wondering if he has, because Arsene Wenger has left the big centre forward out of the starting line up once again, meaning Giroud is still waiting for a first start of the season, for the Gunners at least.

I really thought he would be back in for this huge Champions League group game against PSG but he is a sub along with the man who started ahead of him at the weekend, Lucas Perez. There is no Theo Walcott either, not even on the bench, so I assume the England forward has picked up a knock of some sort or is ill.

What we do have up front is the pace and energy of Alexis Sanchez, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alex Iwobi and I assume the Chilean will play through the middle, with Mesut Ozil looking to open up the PSG defence. After their strong pèrformance together against Southampton, Wenger has stuck with Cazorla and Coquelin in the centre of midfield.

The back four is also the same so Mustafi starts his second game as a Gunner, but the veteran keeper Petr Cech is on the bench while David Ospina gets his first start of the season and hopefully we will not see the sort of mistakes that he made in Europe last year.

Ospina
Bellerin, Mustafi, Koscielny, Monreal
Cazorla, Coquelin
Iwobi, Ozil, Oxlade-Chamberlain
Alexis Sanchez

Subs: Cech, Holding, Gibbs, Xhaka, Elneny, Lucas, Giroud.

It is a bit of a surprise XI from Le Prof but will it get Arsenal the result we want?

Bob.

  1. I thought Walcott was bad but chamberlain would not look out if place in division 2 … And he loaned Campbell … Jesus the guy is clueless

    1. How long will it take Wenger to accept that Sanchez is a second striker not the lone forward.

Took 62 mins today. What a waste !!!

        1. I seriously cannot believe Ox is starting games on the left. The guy is clueless. He should be loaned out. Cannot believe he stays and Campbell gets loaned out !!
What kind of performance is this. Each of these players should be whipped before getting on the return flight. If they have no passion they should stay home.

We are lucky it was not a 8-0

  2. Unpopular opinion: Sanchez is not that great as we make him out to be. He works hard, run fast and can score goals WHEN he is in position. But in terms of more technical aspects like passings in tight spaces, control and dribble, he is always average at best. That is why he is good on wing out wide and struggles through the middle.

    1. This is all known. His passing also wasn’t spectacular at Barcelona . He’s perfectly rated, only arsene Wenger could play him so so wrong

  3. See now why can’t we do that what Aurier and Di Maria have just done with Bellerin and Chamberlain?!?!

    We’ve been utter garbage tonight.

  4. Hahaha. NOW we are playing with the best 11. After 70 min. Generally its the other way round. But this is Wenger’s Arsenal.

  5. ALEXIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    To the rescue

    Holy Cow
Wenger’s crazy plan could pay off
    Come on one more goal

  6. Finally. Gkkd finish. Thata what happens when you play the best 11 with players at their preferred positions. Shame on you Wenger. So much experience but still same naivity with team selection time and again.

        1. LITerally no other wing options. Everyone outside ospina has been bad. Ozil completely missing ox bad, coquelin no discipline… Could go on, you’re exaggerating Iwobi’s performance

  7. Imagine what could have been if Wenger had put our best side out there
I love Alexis but if Wenger keeps on doing this we may lose Alexis and Ozil next summer

    1. Flashes of dejavu, when AW insisted playing ozil outwide. Sanchez wasted for this game by spending most the time in the middle. No surprise he’s more effective outwide

  8. Something definitely wrong with Ozil … he didn’t play well tonight, and looked dejected when he came off, as he did over the weekend ..
