Granit Xhaka not interested in ‘same level’ Arsenal-Bayern transfer

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has claimed that he has no interest in moving clubs this summer, as well as insisting that a move to Bayern would not mean joining a bigger club. The Swiss international joined the Gunners last summer in a £35 Million move from Borussia Monchengladbach, but has failed to live up to his price-tag thus far.

Xhaka has been sent off twice in the Premier League already, leading to criticism from manager Arsene Wenger, but that has not led him to consider the exit door as of yet.

Bayern Munich have been linked with a move to bring him back to the Bundesliga, and whilst admitting knowing of the rumoured interest, he has no intention to move.

Xhaka said: “I have read that too. But I have not heard anything.

“I am in an outstanding city, an outstanding club. The only thing that Arsenal has been missing is a league title.

“I believe that will change soon.”

The 24 year-old was then asked if he missed Germany and could see a return in the future, to which he replied: “Yeah, but it’s not like I want to go back tomorrow. Maybe the day after tomorrow.”

Arsenal were humiliated by Munich in the Champions League knockout rounds 10-2 on aggregate, and the midfielder admitted his frustrations with the result. He added: “From my view they are [on the same level]. That’s how I feel. The defeats annoy me particularly because I have had good memories against Bayern.

“We were able to beat them three times with Gladbach. And I don’t think Gladbach are on the same level as Arsenal.”

Will Xhaka be able to come good for Arsenal next season? Has he shown enough to warrant his chance to shine? Or should we cash-in?

  1. Use him correctly and he will be immense. We have loads of players with individual qualities that either don’t gel with others or play in positions that don’t play their play style. What’s the point of having all these playmakers with no-one willing to make forward runs or space opponents as they all want the ball at their feet?

    1. Need to get the right players around him, in a more balanced organised line up I’m sure he’d be a tough competitor. Switz seem to play above what they look on paper, they are well organised with Xhaka as a big player for them.

  2. If all Arsenals stars were fit.
If they were all in form.
    If they were highly motivated.
If they were played in their best position.
If they were given the appropriate game plans.
If there was a powerful message from the top to win at all costs.
If I win the lotto on Saturday 🙂

  3. He might take a bit of time to fully settle in but he will most definitely come good, his balanced mentality is quite remarkable, he is neither a bully nor can he be bullied, he just stands his ground, we will do very well to have more of our players adopting his mindset.

    1. On two occasions last season, he captained his Monchengladbach team against Bayern Munich and refused to lose, in fact they beat Bayern 3-1 at home and drew 1-1 away with players seemingly inferior to Arsenal’s.

  4. I liked this interview from Xhaka, you could read a sort of confidence and strong mentality in the words, he meant it.
