Happy New Year readers! Who should Arsenal sign first?

Happy New Year to all readers at JustArsenal.com and with the clock reading past 00:01 that also means that the winter transfer window has now opened.

We didn’t get any Christmas presents under our tree in the shape of Virgil Van Dijk signing, like our top-four rivals Liverpool did, but we certainly expect there to be some movement from our club in the coming weeks.

We have until January 31 to make the necessary additions to our squad, with the 11PM deadline set, but who should we be aiming to sign this month?

There is plenty of talk surrounding Alexis Sanchez’s future at the club, and that took a turn before we had even kicked off our match against West Brom today. Manchester City lost both Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne to injury leading to enhanced claims over their pursuit of the Chilean, and we would be silly to lose him for free in six months, especially when he has been struggling to play his best football amidst all the uncertainties.

Whether Alexis does end up leaving or not, I’m certain that we will add another forward to our ranks, and those highest up my wishlist are Julian Draxler of PSG and Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City. Wilfried Zaha is another player strongly linked, but I personally am not sure that he has what it takes to cut it at a top side, and I would much prefer one of the two from above.

Chelsea’s David Luiz is another who we are linked with potentially landing, although I don’t really see the Brazilian quitting Stamford Bridge to join us, The Blues clearly don’t need him as a first-team regular, and even have Kurt Zouma starring on loan should they need numbers, so I wouldn’t rule out his move altogether.

Steven N’Zonzi is a player that is keen on a move, but his side Seville are now hoping to block him from moving on apparently.

Theo Walcott, Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud are all linked with potential moves this month, but which signing would be most important to our squad for the remainder of the campaign?

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  1. Happy new year to everyone. However don’t get too excited, I think the optimism versus reality of any transfer window with Arsenal will just leave us disappointed. But to every Arsenal supporter, keep on believing, and one day it may just happen. Have a great night!

    1. Lets NOT put the cart before the horse. Who should Arsenal get shot of. I watched the performance against West Bromwich Albion and other than Cech and Koscielny I have 9 immediate candidates. How has Wenger managed to turn a very good right back in Bellerin into a below average wing back. How can Wenger send Iwobi onto the pitch without somebody pulling his strings. His legs seem to move about and swing at the ball with no co-ordination. we have Wilshere who does a little here and a little there, but not very much everywhere else. We have got so bad, even Mustafi wants to leave.
      If I did not know better I would swear Wenger was trying to leave a mere shadow of the great Arsenal teams to his successor.

  2. Don’t worry about signing anyone , 1st thing we need to do is SACK ARSENE WENGER AND THE WHOLE BOARD OFF DIRECTORS. Until that happens it don’t matter who we sign we will be mediocre

  3. Haha, we go through this every January! After all these years haven’t you cottoned on yet? Benzema on his way again is he?

    Happy new year everyone! Hopefully an upturn in Arsenal fortunes for 2018, but unfortunately Wenger will be in charge for the entirety of the year, so just rinse, and repeat!

  4. PatJ, are you confusing the new year with April fool’s day or are you writing about another club. Our manager is the lord wenger. We don’t do transfers in January especially when we need it.

  5. Happy New Year.
    Nzonzi will be 1st to play Defensive midfield – we’re not shielding our backline at all.
    Draxler’s unproven in our league & hasn’t set the place on fire @PSG. I’ll be ambitious & bring in 2 devastating wingers Zaha & Mahrez – gives penetration, gives space to our midfield.
    You mightn’t intend to but the words you say about Zaha once applied to Thiery(Juve).Mohamed Salah & De Bruyne(Chelsea) add Robben(Chelsea & Real
    Madrid).

    Zaha is fully ready to play for a Big club – we must stop overestimating what it takes to play for us while underappreciating the real talents in front of us

  6. Happy New Year
    Its 2018 innit

    Sign Verane, Lemar, Draxler, Seri and Goretzka

    Sell: Xhaka, Walcott, Wilshere, Alexis, Eleny and Ozil.

    ……………..Cech
    …..Kos…Mustf….Verane
    Bell….Seri…Goretzka. ..Kolsanic
    ………Lemar…draxler
    ………….Lacazette

    1. In millions:

      Varane -> 75
      Seri -> 40
      Goretzka -> Free
      Lemar -> 90
      Draxler -> 50

      Total 255 millions, not inclusive of their and the current players’ crazy salary that make Arsenal have to break the Financial Fair Play. The board might agree to spend 300 millions in one transfer window, but it would be highly improbable.

      Happy deluded New Year to all Arsenal fans…

  7. Happy new year!
    sell sanchez, Ozil, Theo,
    Bring in Drexlar, Leon Bailey and Malcom Silva

    Centre Backs: Mehdi Benatia and Fauz Ghuloum

  8. The only signing I want is either Simeone or Tuchel cause our fraud can even make messi play like Charlie Adam.

  9. COYG! We need an outstanding GK in the rank of DeGea and probably Leon Bailey. Alexis is a goner, his time’s up. But we definitely gonna miss the loop passes of Alexis…

  10. In: Goretzka, Bailey, Draxler, Seri

    Sell: Walcott, Sanchez, Ozil

    It’s really up to Sanchez and Ozil. If they want to sign then sign. If not, at least try to sell. I think we need a CB also but admit I have no idea who would be available to fix the problem.

  11. Hard for me to believe the we will sign anyone. What we should do is sell Sanchez to City for 10 or 20 and by Mahrez. Won’t improve our prospects for this season but will remove a source of unrest and give us at least a half way decent attacking option on the wing in Mahrez who is not Sanchez level but PL proven and very capable on his day.
