Has Messi helped Arsenal beat Liverpool to ideal January transfer?

It was only recently that Arsene Wenger started to relax the Arsenal policy of not offering anything more than a year of contract at a time to any player who was the wrong side of 30-years old. With the fitness and medical advances affecting football in recent years, though, it is becoming more and more common to see players like Giggs and Pirlo carrying on at the top level way after that 30-year old point in their careers.

I suppose it depends on the individual player as well, but Wenger did sign the aging midfielder Kim Kallstrom in a January transfer window not too long ago, so maybe he will agree with me about the possibility of bringing the Barcelona and Argentina international star Javier Mascherano back to England and the Premier League.

It might seem a bit out of the blue but with Sky Sports reporting that the club and country teammate of Mascherano, the great Lionel Messi, saying that he thinks Mascherano could return to the EPL, albeit with his former club Liverpool, I reckon Wenger could do a lot worse than try to sign the brilliant 33-year old.

Mascherano is not just one of the best holding midfielders in the game, he also plays regularly and very well in defence and with his pace and tough tackling I think he would be a great asset for the Gunners. We know our manager likes a versatile player, so what do you think of the idea of Mascherano as an Arsenal target for the January transfer window?

    1. I didn’t think we were in top 4 so maybe we need a defensive mid and a new manager can’t see us making top 4 this season ether, over hall needed.

  1. Mascherano quick? He has never been quick and at 33 he is not a solution to arsenals problems at centre back nor defensive midfield

  2. should Arsenal go for a 33year old DM because there are no better transfer deals in January? why not young and better players who have the potential to grow into world class ?Wenger should think twice or loose his job.
