Have Arsenal given up on keeping Mesut Ozil?

Mesut Ozil is nearing the final 12 months of his Arsenal contract, but have the club given up on agreeing new terms.

The German international is one of a number of number of players who have so far failed to agree contract terms over a new deal, with Alexis Sanchez, Jack Wilshere and even manager Arsene Wenger having failed to extend their deals thus far.

Ozil was believed to be happy at the club, and was keen on staying at the club, despite negotiations having failed to go sailing, and reports now claim that Arsenal have given in.

It’s speculated that the 28 year-old had been willing to accept the latest terms, having previously tried to hold out for a whopping £250,000 per week wage, but the club are no longer willing to work on such a deal.

It is claimed that a price-tag has now been placed on Ozil’s head, worth £42 Million, and clubs looking at bringing him in this summer will now have to consider the fee they are willing to pay.

Mesut has come under fire on numerous occasions with fans questioning his work-rate and fight, while Arsene Wenger has always defended his statistics, which show his creativeness is rarely off-

Fans will not be too unhappy at his departure, especially if £42 Million could be recouped following his departure, and no doubt his replacement will have to be of top quality.

We will be expecting a busy transfer window regardless of whether the former Real Madrid man stays or not, while Arsene Wenger’s future is likely to play the biggest role in our summer.

Would anyone be unhappy to see him go? Is he key in our future in the newly-favoured 3-4-2-1 formation?

  1. See ya MO!

Go be carried by another team so you can make the occassional assist.

  2. Good riddance! We need fighters in this team not overpaid babies who perform once in 3 months.I just hope we can squeeze as much from his transfer as we can so that the NEW MANAGER can have a decent kitty for his plans.

  3. I honestly don’t care if Ozil goes or not. What I care about is a new manager. Ozil is clearly good enough to play for Germany, a country filled with great players. Perhaps a new manager could get more out of him. I am sure for instance that both Sanchez and Ozil suffer when they have to play with Giroud because it takes away half of their repertoire since Giroud can not or does not get in behind defenders.

They say you either love him or hate him but I am not sure of that’s true because I don’t love or hate him. TBH if you ask me would you rather see Ramsey or Ozil in the nr 10 role I would choose Ozil every time. So who would play in the nr 10 slot if we don’t have Ozil? Santi would be my answer but I am afraid he is now too old for that role and has become an injury liability so building your hopes around Santi would be a bit mad IMO. And don’t say Griezman or some other unrealistic world class player because they won’t want to come to Arsenal if Wenger is here and we won’t pay world class money.

    1. Wenger should go to China and take Ozil with him

  4. I can’t wait to see the back of him. I am a hard worker so Ozil infuriates me.

Sell Ozil and do whatever it takes to get Isco.

  5. Ozil has really turned to a burden. I have really waited far too long for him to be consistence. Even last season DAT he have so many assist, his body language always poor. Enough defending him. Need someone like isco

  6. Apparently ozil got upset and kicked in the dressing room door after the spurs game…ooh get him ! Pity he no longer shows that passion on the pitch !
Time to cash in but doubt anybody will take him for £42 million when he can go for free in a years time. He is as deluded as wenger if he is holding out for close to 300k a week ! Bench him and play iwobi in his place till end of season then get isco before liverpool and carvalho before wba ffs ? As for van dijk…forget him..will want champions league football and wenger will never pay 50 million for a defender…instead how about howedes..can play across back line so ideal for 3 cb set up especially if kos on way out. Benzema a no no..too old and carries way too much baggage. Should have offered the money for lacazette last year before his price rocketed and off loaded giroud.

  7. New Owner. New Manager. New tactics. New Game Plan. Our club need a refreshing from top to bottom. I wish that Arsenal have a new manager next season with a new passion and hunger to succeed and continue our culture by winning the league and bring European trophy to our camp. In case of Ozil, if our new manager can see Ozil suits to his game plan I have no objection to that, if Ozil does not suits to his game plan of course Ozil will be sold. (I personally prefer selling Ozil and bring in more passionate Attacking Midfielder who can track back, make a clear cut chances, shooting when it matters.) And one more thing, Arsenal Football Club need to sell Olivier Giroud (compulsory).

  8. Whether you like it or not Ozil has the best pedigree in the Arsenal side. Amongst numerous other individual honours, He has played successfully on the biggest stage of football namely the World Cup and performed. In 2010 he was nominated for player of the tournament and 2014 started every game and played a key part in Germany winning the world Cup. He is German player of the year 5 times and was Arsenals best player last season with the highest assists in the league. He started this season well and since December has for some reason gone backwards and the big reason is why? In fact the whole team went backwards.

  9. What a bunch of ungrateful pansies with short term memory some of you are. It’s the same guy who had 19 assists last season, and would’ve had double that if our strikers/forwards were a little more prolific. It’s the same guy who has 8 goals, and a bunch of assists this season. Does he disappear in “big” games? Sometimes. But so are most of our starting XI. How about our “hero”, Alexis? When was the last time he had a good game? It’s been 3 months or so, if I’m not mistaken. Ozil is not the type of players who’s gonna carry the team on his back. He needs support. So when he’s surrounded by Ramseys, Walcotts, etc it’s no wonder that his form dips occasionally. A number of you are saying that we should replace him with Isco. And I say that we should replace Santi with Isco. It’s no coincidence that Ozil’s drop in form coincided with Santi’s injury. He needs that deep lying playmaker behind him. So get him that, and we’ll get our Ozil back.

    1. Vlad you make some good points. Hazard had a shocking season last year but this year he has been phenomenal. I prefer to believe in the old saying “form is temporary but class is permanent.” I agree that it has been the whole team that has been shocking this season and in our rush to judgement, fans have often scapegoated certain individuals in our team. Much of this scapegoating comes from outside of our club by those that seek to destabilise us. Like you said it’s been quite some time since Sanchez has had an excellent game.

Even though I’d like Ozil to be given another chance at Arsenal, I don’t believe he deserves a contract of more than £200,000 a week whilst I’d offer Sanchez £250,000 a week.
