Could Arsenal get away with keeping ALL their stars this summer?

Over the past couple of weeks, there has been a lot of speculation over the future of the Arsenal full-back Hector Bellerin, who has been linked with a return to his hometown club Barcelona with some sources in the media even claiming that a £44 million deal was in place to take the highly-rated Spaniard back to the Nou Camp.

But fortunately for Arsenal fans, the player now appears to have put an end to all such speculation through his twitter account. Obviously referring to the speculation over his future and reports of a return to Barcelona this summer, the Arsenal star tweeted: “Do not believe everything you read”, effectively conveying that his future is at the Emirates.

Quite frankly, the news comes as no surprise to me considering that the player made it crystal clear quite recently by stating that he would not have signed a new contract at Arsenal if he wanted to leave. With more than five years left to run on his recently-signed contract, the club will be under no pressure to sell him either.

The Spanish international mentioned earlier that he intends to repay the faith that the Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger showed in him by bringing him in from Barcelona as a 16-year-old and giving him an opportunity in English football. Moreover, the now wing-back is well-settled in London and speaks English like its his first language. Taking all this into consideration, it is perhaps difficult to see how there was so much doubt over his future.

Anyway, with Hector confirming he will be staying on and Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ozil looking very likely to stay as well, perhaps the only important first-team player we could be losing this season is Alexis. If the club manage to keep hold of him as well and bring in the big-name players we are being linked with, Arsenal will surely be a force to reckon with next season.

  1. Why can’t we just hold on to every player we got? De Gea had 1 year left in his contract when he was close to joining Real Madrid.

    When nothing materialized, De Gea signed a new contract on the last day of transfer window if I remember correct.

    Spend the money tight-A*se and bring in those 3 quality players, even 2 would do now that Kolasinac is here, and perhaps that is enough ambition for Sanchez to sign. Özil will sign obviously because no one else wants him.

    STRIKER and a MIDFIELDER for starters.

    1. De Gea got tricked so hard that he cant join RM ever, he did not have a release clause added even, not everyone is a fool. If we get Mbappe, Alexis might agree to extend. Mbappe does not cost 110M, Arsenal’s bid was with 50M this year and rest in installments, better than anyone else who offered less up front. That leaves at least 50M more this year to spend, along side any sales. I first want to see Walcott/Wilshere go before anyone else comes in

      1. De Gea manned up and showed loyalty. Real said we’ll wait til next season and get you for nothing, thinking both parties will win in the money stakes. De Gea said “but I owe utd, and am a red devil, I will not treat this club like that. And besides, if you want me you must need me, you have no trouble breaking transfer records, so it seems to me, that I mustn’t be all that needed over there, at least utd appreciate what I do. Real were stupid, De Gea is one of those very few and far between, utd are lucky to such a man as well as a goalkeeper. [Respect]]]]]

    2. Because there are squad limits. Even with Sanogo gone, we still have to shed 11 players from those born 1995 or before and that is just to bring the number down to 25. If Wenger still wants to sign 2 more then 13 players need to be sold/released/loaned or delisted from the premier league squad. The current 1995 or before born are:

      Gk – Cech, ospina, szczesney, martinez, macey, iliev

      Wing backs – Jenkinson, bellerin, Debuchy, chamberlain, Kolasinic, gibbs, Monreal

      Centre backs – chambers, holding, Mertesacker, Gabriel, Mustafi, koscielny

      Holding Midfielders – xhaka, coquelin, elneny, kamara, cazorla

      Attacking midfielders – wilshire, ramsey, ozil, alexis, toral, walcott, campbell, asano

      Strikers – welbeck, giroud, akpom perez

      1. Gk – ospina,szczesney – sold, iliev – loaned (3)
        Wing backs – Debuchy, gibbs – sold, Jenkinson – loaned (3)
        Holding Midfielders – kamara – loaned (1)
        Attacking midfielders – wilshere/walcott – sold, toral, asano – loaned (4)
        Strikers – perez – sold, akpom – loaned (2)

        Perez can be retained if Alexis goes this year

  2. If you can keep your head when all about you
    Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
    If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
    But make allowance for their doubting too;
    If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
    Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
    Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
    And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

    If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
    If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
    If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
    And treat those two impostors just the same;
    If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
    Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
    Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
    And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

    If you can make one heap of all your winnings
    And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
    And lose, and start again at your beginnings
    And never breathe a word about your loss;
    If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
    To serve your turn long after they are gone,
    And so hold on when there is nothing in you
    Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

    If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
    Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
    If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
    If all men count with you, but none too much;
    If you can fill the unforgiving minute
    With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
    Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
    And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

    a lot of ‘Ifs’ here. nearly as many as at Arsenal.

  3. Yup, Arsenal will be a major force in the Europa league next season .. Or at least until the teams from the champions league drop into that competition.

    As for keeping our key players, nothing is certain about keeping hold of Ozil,Bellerin or The Ox yet… Sanchez is definitely gone,though.

  4. Wenger is busy looking at the release list of other EPL clubs to see who he can get for free

  5. We all know that Sanchez won’t stay with us. Let’s just hope the club gets a lot of money for him, so that at least a semi-proper replacement can be brought in.
    The rest most probably won’t go IMO.

  6. Yes they could but again it all depends of how the window is going. Bellerin in the 1st place is signed long term and we are in a position of strengh.
    All Ox is looking for is game time and playing more in his position which has every chance of happening with Santi out long term.
    The main issue is Sanchez and Özil, mainly the former. Wenger simply has to walk the talk! Issue is that is the talk we hear every year after a strong finish.
    Please sell the deadweight, those who have failed to perform, those who have never achieved there potential or simply not good enough to guide Arsenal to major trophies.
    And stop talking about bargains. As much as I love Holding who is a shrewd signing and looks like he will be an Arsenal great, the succes rate of such signing ia low whereas when we buy proven big name talent namely Sanchez and Özil a few summers ago safe to say we knew what we were getting and they have been good not great because it hasn’t translated to major trophies but I don’t hols it against them.
    Özil and mainly Sanchez are daring you to show ambition biy surrounding them with world class players, big names, a sure thing…just get it done. Not only do you have money but if you finally sell who you have to that will be even more! Walk the talk Wenger you are under pressure and us fans will not overlook another underwhelming summer!

  7. Sanchez is gone. When a player says “it’s in the hands of my agent” and his agent stands to get next to nada if the player stays and swindle millions if he goes, the writing is on the wall. Sanchez is gone, fortunately there looks to be some serious talent on the move this year that will help fill the hole he will leave.

  8. Only 2 acceptable options
    1. Either pay him the £300,000 per week (best choice) or
    2. sell him for a good price to an overseas club (“not pl) and get a Top replacement

    Unacceptable
    3. Sell him to A Premier League Club
    4. Sell him for peanuts
    5. Keep him without a contract, and he leaves next summer for nothing to maybe a PL club

  9. We should be looking at selling a lot this summer. Not just because many can move on a free in 12 months time, but because many are not good enough anyway, or injury-prone. The money can go towards strengthening the squad, and what use is it keeping players who want out, or are rubbish?

    I would hate to see Arsenal selling Sanchez to one of our rivals, but in reality, what’s worse: Sanchez to Chelsea/ManC for £50 million, or on a free? Rival fans will take even more pleasure from the fact they stole a WC player off us, and it cost them nothing! Dortmund refused to sell Lewandoski to Bayern for good money with a year left, so Bayern just waited 12 months, and paid Dortmund nothing for his services. Bayern had the last laugh. I just pray Sanchez signs a new contract, because we’re a one man team so we need him, but I think he wants to join a top club, and I cannot blame him.

  10. Morata gone to man UTD and James going to psg. Now what you pokers who will you buy. I am fed up of this board. Is there anyone who can listen to the fans ??????

    1. Giroud is much better than Morata, check their goal scoring stats, not to mention the crazy money for an average striker like Morata. Not sure how James’s valuation has gone up after such a poor spell at Madrid, although I’d take him over Ozil, but around £40 million would be a fairer price.

      I am not defending the board, and I still expect Wenger, and the board to make a complete hash of the transfer window, but missing out on these two, especially Morata, isn’t a major blow.

      1. Morata is way much mobile and a better finisher than giroud. He didn’t had a bad spell at real Madrid he scored or assisted whenever he started same for james. Both are quality assets.

        1. Giroud has a much better scoring record, and for a weaker team, in a tougher league. Real and Juventus are very dominant in their respective weaker leagues, yet Morata doesn’t get a lot of goals. The money being asked for him is crazy!

  11. You guys should stop tripping men! Whether Alexis leaves or stays the most important thing is for Wenger to strengthen the team. Sanchez might stay on but if the boss doesn’t bring quality into the team am sorry to say this – we will still fail to win any major trophy.

    1. “the boss” remains one of the main issues though. He can bring in who he wants, we still have yet to see a recent Wenger team remain mentally strong throughout a whole season.

      1. Mate let me tell you something. This current squad without any additions is good enough to win the league with the right manager. If Conte, Allegri, Anccelotti or maybe Tuchel, Jardim, Sampiaoli or Simeoni was our we would be still celebrating the league title win this season. Arsenal really missed the boat they should have moved Wenger upstairs and got Guardiola a couple off years ago.

        1. Ur god damn right! Im not sure about guardiola in EPL, plus not so much money like he is used to… but the other managers u named would be champions with our squad

      2. Van Djik – Verratti – Bale – Mbappe/Aubameyang – Di Maria – alongside Alexis –

        Bench…….
        [ J. Hart / Mustafi / Goretzka / Lemar / Ozil / Carrasco / Dembelle ]

        Players who didn’t make bench today ….
        [ Monreal, Sidibe, Bielik, Tolisso, Ramsey, Onyekuru, Giroud ]

        Team…….

        ……………………..P. Cech
        ………..Holding Van Dijk Koscielny………..
        Bellerin Verratti Xhaka Kolasinac…
        Di. Maria Alexis S……………..
        …………………….Mbappe

        These players added to our current squad, trim wages down bottom. Then I think we’d steamroll this league, and Wenger would have us playing the beautiful game in no time. This team I’d be proud to cheer. Onyekuru might happen, he might replace Sanogo.

        1. Forgot Bale, I’d swap out Bellerin for Bale, or else go three five two with Bale and Mbappe up front. You need your line up to be difficult to choose from, ours hasn’t been like that for a long time.

    2. Where is the optimisim Fatboy. Sanchez will not be sold to a Prem league rival. If he is going it’s Bayern or some where else. If he really is gonna go I say we teach him a lesson and sell him to China. That will show him.

  12. This one goes out to Iwobi, all the way from down under, Hades.

    Iwobi has to bring it next season. No more learning curve and not knowing how to keep up all of his responsibilities. He needs to stay after training and practice putting some power into his shots, no more side foot passes towards goal, it’s pathetic without pace and accuracy, also you need to be close to the keeper for that type of shot. Practice your lift overs, the dink, and practice whacking them from out and around the box. Some far corner curlers, keepers find them difficult when you get the knack of it. Holding was brilliant in the FA cup, he targeted a player who gets so wound up that Holding made it look like child’s play. He got right under his skin, that tells me Holding is headed straight to the top more so than anything else I’ve seen him do. It was just sensational stuff from a kid in his first season, at a huge club, and going for his first silverware, absolutely top draw stuff my young pup. Next he (Iwobi) needs to ask Monreal and them guys what they expect of him, come up with separate game plans from time. Like how Holding and Mert came up with a game plan v che, it’ll help him choose right markers in future, or how to block the travel route and crossing lane by working within a double/treble act. He needs to start asking questions, he needs to ask himself as well as others. Do I want to be remembered for the rest of my days, longer even. What is it that the best players have, in spades, besides their skill set, not just the gifted players but the ones you call winners. How much would it mean to me ..to have a terrific season whilst helping Arsenal to a title scrap, how much would this really mean to me, or am I already living beyond my wildest dreams, can my dreams be bigger.
