Morgan Rogers was one of the players Arsenal were keen to add to their squad during this transfer window, and the attacker was also interested in making the move from Aston Villa to the Emirates Stadium.
Villa were unwilling to sell unless they received a substantial transfer fee, while the Gunners viewed Rogers as their marquee signing of the summer.
Supporters were surprised at the start of this week when reports emerged claiming that Rogers had agreed to join Chelsea.
Arsenal Fell Short In Negotiations
Subsequent reports have suggested that the move is close to being finalised, with Rogers having already signed the necessary paperwork and only the official announcement still outstanding.
The attacker is expected to become an important addition to Chelsea’s squad following the completion of the transfer.
According to Football Transfers, Arsenal came extremely close to signing Rogers before the deal ultimately fell through during this transfer window.
Chelsea Changed The Situation
The report states that Rogers had given Arsenal his word that he wanted to move to the Emirates Stadium, meaning personal terms were never expected to be an obstacle.
However, Arsenal and Aston Villa were unable to reach an agreement because both clubs placed different valuations on the attacker.
Chelsea then transformed the situation by submitting a British record bid, which Villa accepted immediately, leaving Arsenal unable to continue their pursuit.
The Gunners were not prepared to outbid Chelsea for Rogers’ signature and subsequently withdrew from negotiations. That decision allowed the Blues to complete the transfer without further competition, bringing Arsenal’s pursuit of one of their leading summer targets to an end.

Arsenal didn’t lose him to Chelsea, they were just smart enough to stand firm on their valuation of him. Time to move on to the next thing. Come to think of it, his time to shine came and Villa was lucky to identify him at the right time and right price. There are gems like him out there and probably in Arsenal youth team, what Arteta and his team should do is identify and nurture those gems to reach their potentials. Nwaneri has what it takes to be a Rogers 2.0, same as Dowman and some others in the team that we don’t know yet.
The core and strength of Barca is the Academy for now, they only buy to argument: Yamal, Cubarsi, Gavi, Pedri, Lopez, Casado, Blade and Olmo. In the past they had Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Busquet, Puyor, Pique e.t.c. Must we always buy when we have what it takes to make? Why can’t we emulated Barca, Madrid, Brighton, Bournemouth in identifying gems, developed them, integrate as much and make money out of the rest?
I’m really tired of the whole transfer rumours and the disappointments or should I call it deceptions.

They didn’t lose Rogers, they refused to pay over 90 mil and Chelsea did. I am afraid players prices are going up. Or teams that are desperate like Chelsea and Spuds are pushing prices up, to get the player they want. Its caused inflation and every player will be more.

Rogers never had the chance to choose Arsenal, they valued him at 80 million and were never going to pay 117 million. Rogers is a good player but no game changer. He is not Declan Rice. Arsenal never entered advanced negotiations with Villa, and they surely understod Rogers was out of reach. Being interested is not the same as actively pursuing a player. So the story is agent led. Rogers dig not reject Arsenal, Chelsea was his only option.

Arsenal had their valuation and stood firm on it whilst Chelsea blundered in and overspent on him by about £35-40 million!
Unfortunately, what we have again are certain clubs distorting the market by buying players at hugely inflated prices.
This is a club that posted record losses last year and are not even in the CL for next season. Yet they are able to outbid almost any other club for players.
