How can Arsenal stop losing away from home?

Arsenal have only won three away League games in the whole season, and are currently on a record of five defeats in a row after losing 2-1 to Newcastle at St James Park on Sunday. Arsene Wenger was at a loss to explain the reason’s. He said after the game: “It’s a bit the story of the season. We had 70 per cent of the ball, were 1-0 up and in the end you lose 2-1 and you wonder how you can lose this game. That’s what happened today. I think the game could have been over at half-time. We conceded two goals from nowhere.

“In the second half I feel that some players paid a little bit physically having played the game on Thursday night in Moscow. We came back on Friday morning late. Overall we played with a good spirit but with a bad result. We have to deal with that unfortunately. It’s very disappointing because I feel it’s very harsh to swallow a defeat like that, and the way we conceded three points today.”

It is very harsh to swallow any defeat to lowly sides, and other than Newcastle we have also lost Swansea, Brighton, Tottenham and Bournemouth in this losing run, and it doesn’t sound like Wenger knows how to stop the rot. “Of course it’s a concern because traditionally we have a very strong record away from home.” He said. It has a subconscious weight in our minds. Once you’re in a negative spiral like that, it’s very difficult to get out.”

If we do not get out of it we are in real danger of losing our 6th place spot to Burnley, and with our next away match scheduled is a trip to Old Trafford, where Jose Mourinho will be relishing the chance to see Man United destroy us again.

So if Wenger doesn’t know how to get us out of this spiral, perhaps the fans could give him some ideas?

    1. But! We might be stuck with Wenger till the end of the next season

It that’s the case we have to work with what we have in our defense and it could be better with a three CB formation

  1. the only thing remaining in wenger is excuses.the whole world can see what wrong with the teanm apart from this clone.newcastle come strait frm relagation n we r giving excuses y it defeated us, apart from that if am nt wrong it never finished on top of champship” realy wenger??come on,let get this ryt
1.we used to fyt for number 1(trophy)gone
2.make sure tote never finish on top of us-gone
    3.top 4-gone
4.last season to get to top 4-gone
5.now–we be fghting to get to europa
people have not yet realised burnley threat until u see possibilities with remaining fixtures man u game ,leicester n burnly.with this team,we r out of europa too

    1. Squilaci, Senderos, Szczesny, Cech, Ospina, Koscielny, Toure, etc were also very prone to errors

Mustafi is one of Arsenal’s most erratic defenders I have ever seen, but there must be other factors why we keep having silly defending mistakes over the years

      1. I’m surprised Stephan doesn’t blame THE SUPPORTERS for Mustafi’s poor form. After all it was only last week he suggested the reason Arsenal are crap is because of the supporters. Not the Manager. Not the Players.THE SUPPORTERS.
And yet here we have him actually calling out a PLAYER.
So can I remind him THIS PLAYER was BOUGHT BY WENGER and COACHED BY WENGER and SELECTED BY WENGER.
        NOT THE SUPPORTERS.GOT IT?

  2. We last won a league game at Old Trafford in 2006. Our away form is diabolical and Wenger’s record against Mourinho is even worse than it. Consequently, I do not expect a win or even a draw out of the £9M a year big man. I only hope that we lose by a respectable margin. If we can secure a 2-0 loss I will certainly feel no shame or pain going through the youtube comment section as I relax with some ArsenalFanTV and chill.

  3. Wenger completely ignores the defensive side of the game, it’s that simple. Even the great attacking managers like Pep know the importance of defending. Fernandinho is very important to the way they play, and Pep even signed 3 FB/WB last summer, so that his system would work properly.

Unbelievably, we don’t even have a DM in the squad, let alone the starting XI! It’s just sheer negligence from Wenger.

    1. True. Without Fernandinho’s mobility, skills, bravery and hardwork, Manchester City would not win the title

Busquets and Mascherano also did the dirty works for Barcelona, so Messi and Iniesta could take higher risks with their improvizations. The same with Casemiro for Real Madrid

In Arsenal, the unsung hero in this season was usually Monreal. Maybe Arsenal need to convert one of their erratic defenders like Mustafi into a DM and see how it goes

      1. Sorry, but mustafi do not have the engine for DM work. He would pass out in the middle of the game and got injured.

  4. By selecting the best players which excludes the likes of Czech and Mustafi. They are the common denominators in virtually all the away defeats to sides below Arsenal in the league.I am not a lover of stats but these are the facts which Wenger chooses to ignore. There is absolutely no point in strengthening other parts of the team for example by replacing Wilsh ere and continuing to play Czech and Mustafi.A team is only as good as it’s poorest player and in Czech and Mustafi we have two of the poorest exponents in their positions in the Premier League.

  5. wenger has lost all his tactis .unless he spend a lot money to buy quality players 2018-19 gunner fans will continue to lament (2) why are there so many changesi in every game (3) too many dead horses in the team now

    1. even if u buy n dnt have tactics its useless.we got a good squad by tactics are poor.we have laca, aubuma, welbe n stll we cant score more than 2 goal.change the clone periodddd

  6. its not really five defeats in a row away if you include the home wins, yes, we get three points for that and an opportunity to advance. ‘the one good thing for those teams that have put arsenal to the sword in away games; they will finish below us, loose title, still not win the title, get relegated, and certainly never compete in the champions league. you see how reports, pointless statistics fall apart when you put things in to perspective. spurs, man united, and Chelsea fight for an FA CUP

  7. What a question to ask, “How can Arsenal stop losing away from home?” Well, that is a tough one, so I will have to think for a long time to find the answer. OH, I HAVE THOUGHT but only for a millisecond. And guess what? I have come up with the answer! Aren’t I a clever boy! Would you like to know what it is? Would you really? Well then, here it is! SACK WENGER! NOW I BET NO ONE ELSE EVER THOUGHT OF THAT !

    1. Jon I thought you would have saved some effort and just posted”agreed” to my post at the top! (LOL)
Hopefully jon fox wins his bet, or we are ruined.

  8. From unbeaten record to a beaten one. The end can’t sink lower. The way Wenger exonerates himself! You would mistake him for a stand in coach.

  9. JW and GX need to do a better job protecting the back line. I’d play Chambers and Koscielny, Kolasinac and Bellerin, but use Niles to fill in for Bellerin either when dropped or injured/rested. Martinez should not have been loaned out, he should have gotten his shot this season. Tell fullbacks not to go forward at the same time. When we’re set up into our shape, let Ozil Auba Mkhit/Laca penetrate using each other and occasionally Ramsey to join with them. The home teams plans will revolve around Arsenal committing too many numbers forward, they are working on that all week. So we should make it difficult for them by denying them open space to run into or hit a long ball into. How many long balls did Newc play, and they troubled us. If we concentrated on this stuff I reckon we’d be a tough proposition for most sides.

    1. Break-on-through, seems like basic coaching and tactics to me, which Wenger appears to fail to acknowledge or implement.
I would add that on the basis of resoutces in Arsenal’s current squad, Kolasinac should be tried as DM, a role he played successfully at Shalke.
