How many players will Arsenal sell on deadline day?

There have only been a couple of arrivals at Aersenal this summer, with Alexandre Lacazette and Saed Kolasinac being brought in very early, but we still have many players on the books that need to be sold to make room for further buys.

The ones that definitely will be leaving include: Jenkinson, Debuchy, Chambers, Gibbs and Lucas Pérez, while Jack Wilshere is also likely to be snapped up after playing very well last night, although that may be a loan if Wenger asks him to sign a contract extension before deadline day.

There seems to be problems moving on most of these simply because they are already on such massive wages at Arsenal, but there is very little room for them to playing if they stay and we could certainly do with reducing our wage bill with these departures, even if we can’t get large transfer fees from the sales.

The more worrying possible departures are of course Alexis Sanchez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mesut Ozil, all of whom are in the last year of their contracts along with Jack Wilshere, although it is looking increasingly like none of them is interested in extending their contracts and will be able to leave for free next summer.

Arsene Wenger has consistently said that he will make them honour their contracts until next summer, but there is a very large amount of money at stake here which could be used to buy suitable replacements so is it really sensible to let them leave for free next year?

For me I think we won’t be able to sell Debuchy or Jenkinson, who will just play in U23s this season if at all, and Gibbs may be allowed to run his contract down as a reward for his loyalty. Perez and Chambers are definitely sellable, and Wishere will be going out somewhere. I don’t think that Wenger will be able to hold on to Alexis Sanchez, but Ozil and the Ox will run down their contracts.

So I’m saying four will be leaving on deadline day. What do you think?

  1. 3 or 6. Nothing in between. Maybe 1…
Is this like a guess the jelly beans in the jar contest or just a stupid article?

  2. Based on the team selections and the contract developments so far, I think these six players will be sold:
Jenkinson, Debuchy, Gibbs, Lucas Pérez, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

Jack Wilshere will stay and Chambers would be loaned again. I am sure Arsenal will make two big signings before this transfer window is closed.

  3. We have 33 players but the FA require a 25man squad with 8 home grown players

so technically 8 has to go

  4. Players that will be part of first team
    GK(3): Cech , Ospina, Henry
    Defenders(10): Kos,Mustafi,Gab,Holding,Per,Kolasinac,Monreal,Ox,Bellerin,Chambers
    Midfield(7):Ozil,Iwobi,Ramsey,Xhaka,Elneny,Wilshere,Santi
    Strikers(4): Giroud,Lac,Theo,Welbeck

Sell rest of the deadwood and Alexis will leave on last day.Rest can be filled with under 21 players
We should sell Jenkinson, Debuchy, Gibbs, Perez, Campbell, Akpom

    1. Keep coquelin too…. swap alexis for draxler… or loan wilshere & buy seri___ and we good 2 go for 2016/17 campaign

  5. Sell: Jenkinson,Debuchy,Gibbs,Lucas Perez (unfortunately), Akpom, Chambers (insert BBC).
    .
Buy: Virgil van Dijk and Lemar/Kovacic

  6. The way I see it, loans will be accepted if they offer to pay some of the wages and we can not sell them.

So I would guess at 1 last day sale but we would read about players going out on loan (and I would bet partial wages or payment upfront for the loan).

I would guess though that we read about 2-3 sales with around 1 week left and AFC to reinfest that instantly in what some might call a ‘panic buy’, maybe a pair of ‘panic buys’ if the 3 are sold.

If the rumor of Ox £35 million is true along with Welbeck Everton rumor of £30 million then I think they will be sold and maybe Alexis if PSG interest is true and they can get around FFP rules to afford him.

  7. I don’t think we will be able to off load any of them for two reasons
1 those players are not good enough
2 Arsenal are asking to much for them, and so far there does not seem to be a queue of clubs lining up to sign them.

  8. This will never happen @ the Emirates but the future of the club would be in a far better position if the following events occurred.

    1) Sell Perez for $12M to DPLC—the Spaniard deserves better and will never feature over Wengers favorite English duo of Welbeck & Walcott.
    2) Sell Ox for $40M to Chelsea—Sellig to a hated rival is asinine but Wenger and company have contractually allowed this to happen and can’t let such a young player walk for free next summer
    3) Sell Alexis to PSG for $60M. The mercurial Chilean is obviously disenchanted with the concept of a future @ the Emirates and bags of cash aren’t going to persuade him to stay. He can’t stay @ Arsenal and poison an already fragile locker room.
    4) If Barca are serious, ship Ozil to Spain for $45M. A fantastic player when surrounded by WC talent but sadly to often a passenger in an Arsenal kit.
    5) Sell CC and Gibbs for $30M. Neither will feature for the Gunners this season and playing hardball with potential suitors over a few million quid is ridiculous and detrimental to the club.
    6) Get what u can for Debuchy, Jenkinson, Campbell, $5M let’s say.

If all players are sold Arsenal would trim 9 players from the first team and pocket close to $200M in transfer fees.

    VVD–$50M
    Seri—$35M
    Mahrez—$40M
    Lemar—$55M

    $180M spent.

    Laca
    Mahrez…Ramsey…Lemar
    Xhaka…Seri
    Saed…Boss…VVD…Hector
    Cech

Sanchez’s goals would definitely be missed in the short term but this team would be a nightmare to play against once all the new pieces settle in @ the Emirates.

    1. It is because we are not competative in the EPL or Champions League that the better players (Sanchez & Ozil) & The Ox don’t want to stay.
Those some want rid of (Chambers, Jenkinson, Debuchy,Gibbs, Wilshire? etc) are on more money with us than they would be elsewhere so it is hard for us to get top fees and the player to get similar wages so they have proved hard to shift.
So any or all of the above could go dependant on what happens behind the scenes and that has proved hard to second guess. If I was having a bet I would say the Ox to Chelsea, Debuchy on a free to a club in France and Chambers, Jenkinson and Gibbs on Loan with AFC picking up half the wages.

  9. My prediction is Ospina, Gibbs, Jenkinson, Debuchy, Campbell, Sanogo, Walcott
i love walcott and i really wanted him to become world class (you can see on my flair).
but it got to a point where it’s impossible to justify his wages for the amount of stuff he produces when we can probably find a better player for the same amount.

  10. Players we need to sell:
    Defense – Debuchy; Gibbs; Jenkinson
    Midfield – Wilshere (or loan)
Forwards – Lucas; Akpom; Campbell; Walcott (promote Reiss Nelson)

Players to loan are Chambers, Reine-Adelaide, Wilshere and Lucas (if we can’t sell)

I am going to be a bit on the reserved side because some of our players have either too high wages or are too old, plus Arsenal will be more concerned with making a profit. Therefore I would assume we will have 3 players either leaving or going on loan by the end of transfer.

We will have to cut our loses on Debuchy because he is old and on high wages but still have 2 years left on contract so it’s best to sell.

Gibbs is on a high wage with a year left and I would predict him to run down his contract and be released.

Jenkinson can be loaned out but I prefer to sell because he is on his last year in contract and I don’t see him usurp Bellerin or Chamberlain, best to cut our loses.

Wilshere is on a very high wage and is on last year of his contract and I expect him to sign another contract because of what Wenger has said in the media. Ideally I would sell him due to his horrendous injury record, already have enough for English quota, it relieves pressure on our wage bill and that he is replaceable with better players out there. Cut our losses and use the wage for better purpose.

Joel Campbell is recovery from surgery so that rules him out of any transfers.

Akpom should be sold because I don’t see him usurping anyone in forward line-up and especially now when we have brought Lacazette. Sadly he has always been a player on the fringes of the first team but I don’t see him have a chance at breaking in, best we sell him.

Lucas should be sold because the player clearly does not want to stay and want more game time. He should bring in a handsome amount because of his quality and also his desire to play to make it into the Spanish National Team. Although deadline is coming soon and freeing him up will be good for space and wage bill which can be contributed to another foreign players.

Finally Walcott. This is a contentious one and many people will have their own opinions on this so I will give you my own. I believe he can still have a role to play albeit a bit part role. He won’t improve the first 11 in terms of quality but he does add a different dimension and would be a nice player to have coming on as a sub and for depth. But realistically he is taking a first team spot and also his all round game for the team is very limited. His main attributes is speed and being able poach and finish chances in the box. He adds very little in build up play and defense and often miss clear cut chances he gets in front of goal. Overall his goal tally is mighty impressive but perhaps it can be misguided as well as it does not paint a complete picture of him. Selling him will be difficult because of his massive wage and also it would cost a lot for the buying club. He is though turning 29 next year and have 2 years left on his contract. Personally I would sell him to recuperate whatever we can before we let it run down to the final year where we won’t get much for him or risk letting the player run down his contract. Looking to sell him now would be the best option and to either reinforce by bringing in someone new or promote someone from our academy like Reiss Nelson to start integrating him into the team.

  11. We’ll have to pay someone good money to take Debuchy –

He’s been one of the most disappointing buys in a decade. Never thought hard for his spot, never accepted a loan, seems rather take his salary and watch tv at home

Maybe I’m being harsh – but he really wasn’t up to the challenge

  12. Jenkinson 3m, Debuchy 2m, Chambers 10m,
Gibbs 10, Elneny 10, Walcott 20, Campbell 5m, Akpom 1.5m, Lucas 10.5m. That’s Up To 70million. They’re All Useless Anyway. We Can Bring In Vandijk, Dembele(spurs)
    Or Seri, Asensio/Draxler/Lemar.

  13. I don’t think Arsenal will sell much more than 2-3 for the rest of this window. I can’t see any more deals unless they try and hijack deals from other clubs. Debuchy will stay in the U23’s and will most likely get released next summer. Jenkinson may have an inflated wage based on his market value making him harder to shift, he will have to take a paycut to leave, will he leave probably not this window. Perez is a guaranteed sell this summer, whether he goes back to Deportivo or goes to Newcastle is debatable. Wilshere is a similar situation, think Arsenal will be less reluctant to budge on any deals because of the loyalty and investment value of the player, but again depends on his career aspirations. Chambers will most likely end up at Crystal Palace if a fee can be agreed. Akpom will stay in the u23’s unless a loan opportunity arises. Gibbs is a tricky one because he is a player going into his last year of his contract on a decent wage and a loyalty bonus, making him the hardest to get off the books, probably the reason why the club are trying to get an inflated fee for him. May have to cut losses here.
