How much Arsenal can claim in compensation from Manchester City

Manchester City are facing a major legal setback after an independent panel found the club guilty on almost all of the Premier League charges brought against them. The club are expected to appeal the verdict, while the eventual punishment has yet to be determined.

The case has taken several years to reach this stage, with the Premier League charging City in 2023 following a lengthy investigation. The charges relate to alleged financial rule breaches covering several seasons, as well as allegations that the club failed to cooperate with the investigation.

Arsenal could seek compensation

The verdict could have significant consequences for City and potentially for their Premier League rivals. Possible sanctions include fines, points deductions, suspension or expulsion from the competition, while retrospective changes to honours could also be considered.

There has also been discussion about whether clubs that believe they were financially disadvantaged could pursue compensation. However, any such claims would depend on separate legal proceedings and cannot currently be treated as confirmed payments to rival clubs.

Arsenal have previously been linked with the possibility of seeking compensation if City were found to have breached the rules. The Gunners could therefore examine their legal position following the verdict, although the outcome of any potential claim would depend on the relevant proceedings.

City face further uncertainty

Give Me Sport reports that Premier League clubs could potentially sue City for more than £100 million each in compensation, while Arsenal are among the clubs that served notice in 2024 that they believed they should have the right to seek compensation if City were found to have breached the rules.

For now, however, Arsenal have not been awarded any compensation, and there is no confirmed figure that the Gunners will receive. Manchester City are expected to challenge the verdict, meaning the legal process could continue before any final consequences are established.

The situation therefore remains unresolved despite the independent panel’s findings. Arsenal and other Premier League clubs may consider their options, but any financial benefit for them would depend on further legal action and the eventual outcome of the case.

  1. The lawyers are going to make a small fortune out of this, millions more than they’ve already made.
I’d be surprised if Arsenal and a good few other clubs didn’t claim millions from City.
Also I would expect Sheikh Mansour to very cleverly withdraw & leave City hanging.

      1. The strongest thing to do is not hurt fans or anyone else unaware of lawbreaking, but target the law breakers.

Declare the owner an unfit owner and ban him from anything to do with football. The person most culpable is the owner, the buck starts there. Throw the book at the ownership. Take away titles, fine club, dock points – options, that’s all club bashing, es, but the main thing is deal with the root cause, the biggest criminal, declare the owner unfit owner, ban them from all football in the world.

There was a fake Mancini contract and pay for the fair pay rules to know, and a real one he was actually getting. Why only Mancini, Why didn’t Pep get the same treat? Why didn’t the director of football? Why didn’t Rodri?
Mancini knew this was breaking fair play rules. Ban him from having any job in football, EUFA and FIFA ban those aware of the crimes from football. Ban all those who also knew what was going on. Everyone who knew is the culprit. Ban Pep from football, ban Rodri from football if needs be.

Guilty pending appeal should mean transfer ban. A transfer ban could have come in earlier, as everything they done with transfers was helped by the rewards of cheating. Early on, the investigation could easily have concluded years ago, the merit in some allegations and those already discarded, in what could have been interim report. Why not restrict transfers at that interim stage knowing the strong merit of some charges? All the transfer dealing in recent years including this summer has been result of cheating, just like criminals robbing a bank living on Costa del Sol, still dining out on the spoils of the robbery, not having their businesses closed down or assets frozen, laughing at victims. It’s the same as that. Every transfer Man City has made in recent years is them laughing at victims.

  2. I feel the best penalty for city is relegation to league one, stripping all the trophies they have earned after the breached of financial rules. Because to my own feelings, is that they achieved those trophies as a result of breached of financial rules.
But my sympathy is that they shouldn’t be expulse from the league completely.🙏🙏🙏🙏

  3. Pep must speak out if he doesn’t know the makings of the fouls. Arteta even slip of the tongue hinted something that infuriated Pep. As a face saving exercise Man City will deffo appeal to also buy time to create stability within the club

  4. Do I feel sorry for the fans? For the most part I do, but there was nothing pleasant about listening to Noel Gallagher crowing about his beloved City or Haaland asking Arteta to stay humble. Once those charges had been served- and the sheer number of them
too – made us all question City’s credibility. It should have made Guardiola really question his position and his legacy

Do I feel sorry for Pep and the players? For the most part I do on this as well at a human level but all of them benefited massively from what City had been doing behind the scenes. In practical terms, I guess it’s not possible to wipe those victories off the record but I’d suggest more than just one asterisk next to those trophies. A few would be good 😊.
I’m surprised that players have been happy to sign for them knowing that the results of the charges were imminent

  5. Good morning SueP,

I feel sorry for the majority of the City fans, the one’s I don’t are the ones who try to justify or are happy with what City did.

As for feeling sorry for the players, not one iota. Lets be honest here, most players in games try to cheat the system in a game, so for any City player to show any shock doesn’t register with me one bit.

Most players if we’re honest don’t care how they get success as long as they get it.

  6. As Fans of the victims clubs, We were mocked by those fans of man city which affected our phycologists

So there must be no mercy for anything involved.

Even a materials used for that stadium must be punished

  7. I’m glad this is finally coming out after we had fairly and squarely won the league and with Pep at the helm of affairs at City.
I can imagine what the narrative would have been…… like won the league because City were punished or Pep had left.
Yet, we did it even in their “cheating best era” and we are going to do it again!

  8. There’s an excellent article doing the rounds involving the ex Stoke City Football (Rugby!!) club manager Tony Pullis and their semi final loss to cuty115 .
He is scathing in his condemnation of City and how it affected him, his players and the fans after they lost 1-0 and how he now feels after finding out they were cheated back in 2010(?)

That’s how far back we are looking and how individual clubs were affected in so many different ways – but I’m told this is not the biggest scandal in world football and it doesn’t matter if city115 are stripped of their titles/trophies or not!!
Read what Pullis says about it and he was directly involved in the scandal!!

    1. Ken, I haven’t read it, but I’m pretty sure he means the FA Cup Final of 2011.

Now this has got me thinking about the European clubs that were knocked out of the CL by Man City during the dodgy years. Will they have something to say/ take action ?

      1. Your correct HD and the article appears within the BBC Sport app.

Your view regarding the European clubs is correct and further proof that this will be the biggest scandal in football affecting hundreds of clubs across Europe.

We are still just scratching the surface in my opinion.
