How the World Cup is good news for Arsenal’s opening EPL games

Now that the Round of 16 has started at the world cup we know which players will at the very least have little training before the start of the season. R16 started on the 30 June which is exactly 6 weeks before the premier league starts. So with the 4 weeks compulsory breaks it means the players will have only 2 weeks of pre-season training which means out of shape players for Arsenal vs Man city. If their country gets to the quarter finals then they are out of the game since no club will risk a player with only 1 week of training especially in such a big match.

At the R16 stage the amount of EPL players from each club involved is:
Man City 15
Tottenham 11
Man Utd 10 + 1(Fred)
Chelsea 11
Liverpool 5
Arsenal 4 + 2 (Lichtsteiner, Torreira)

As it stands Man city will have nearly a match day squad with 2 or less weeks of training and Chelsea next week will have 11 with 3 weeks or less. We are seeing the benefits of having less players at the World cup and its influence on the first two big matches we have in EPL. In the past we have had opening matches ruined by missing players or out-of-form players, like against Liverpool in the 2016/17 opening match, so it’s only fair that this time the fixtures favour us.

Consider this; if Brazil, Belgium and England all qualify for the Quarter Finals, then Man city will have 9 players from their STARTING LINE-UP with only one week of training before our match. It is utterly ridiculous to think most among them will play let alone start the match.

Want to stockpile players with oil money? Meet Karma. Let’s return that 0-3 defeat to them Gunners.

  1. LOL, I would prefer strength against strength as that way there can’t be any excuses. Although at this stage I suppose we need all the help we can get. Especially considering how tight those top 4 slots are.

  2. This statistics simply revealed others clubs have better players than Arsenal

    1. Yes and the other big clubs’ players would have the World Cup matches as their higher level training

Having more time to prepare is good, but Arsenal should also get a better winger before the season starts

    2. Show the statistics you are mentioning and then prove your claim otherwise , don’t troll.

  3. This ‘short term’ look at the fixture list has been around since the day the fixtures were published.

However take a run down of the new manager instu for clubs in the last 10 seasons and you might ask a few questions. Moyes, Moaner etc

If we go on the short term as you have, surely it would have been better if we were away to manc for our first game, for the away game is usually more difficult than the home game as we know.

Some people believe the FA is corrupt. What do you think?

  4. I hope all our players will be ready for Aug 11, I’d love nothing more than a convincing display/win!

OT I really like Neymar, he’s such a talent… but why all the theatrics??? Or is it just a Brazilian thing (rivaldo) ??

    1. He likes to do tricks and cheats, like what most renowned players did, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suarez, Cavani, etc

Except Lionel Messi, that might did it at some point, but I have never seen him do dirty things like that. I also have never seen Messi pretend to fall when pushed, tackled or robbed

I consider Messi’s level is above the other world class players currently, yet he was unable to bring the World Cup trophy to Argentina. A playmaker with such work ethic and talent is very rare, but that is what Arsenal really need

      1. Neymar’s exhibition of Z grade acting when he tried to make out his leg had been chopped off was a disgrace for such a talented footballer. Yes, he suffered a slight stomp deserving of a yellow card for the Mexican player involved; but his reaction, as a high profile player, brought football into disrepute.
He needs to cut this crap out of his game.

  5. France Vs Uruguay……..Kante Vs Torriera
It is time for my lovely torriera to show who is boss and put this comparison to bed… I know torriera will come out top.. I believe in him…i know Uruguay will knock out France, they are more organized than France, france only depend on counter attack and the pace of their wingers….. So come on Torriera!,let’s do this, show them who is boss… And come to the premier league and dish out some fantastic performances that would bring back the epl title to the paradise of football….. It is a shame the World Cup did not allow the English media to be like… TORRIERA WHO????…. they know you now!!.
My torriera!!.. My little nice beast!
    My torriera!!.. My rock
Welcome to the greatest club the world has ever known… My arsenal………trust me you would love it here with Emery(the energetic one,the tactical one)….

  6. My arsenal fans prepare for a season that would bring so much pride and joy to the fans that are due for it…… Trust me it is going to be exciting….Teams will fear us this season… I’m very sure….after our first ten games in the premier league, the other clubs will know we are in for business

  7. i woud rather our players were known to be stayers both in the premiership as well in the world cup and all the other noteworthy competitions – it’s how it was – when we were kings.

  8. Is it just me that wants Uruguay to get knocked out so that Torreira can complete the deal?

  9. I was wondering where papa wenger currently hide. Admin. We still love him and hopefully we can get some news about him is he living with hand brakes or is he ok.

  10. Looking forward to #france_uruguay and cant wait to see #L_Torreira control the midfield for #uruguay. #ARSENAL should get him signed asap.

  11. used to be that arsenal were a magnet for the best french had to offer, im suggesting we were a gateway for their players to break into their national team. I very much hope its still going to be the case we are able to attract their best players – its particularly important we continue to do so given the french are likely to consolidate their class by lifting the 2018 world cup. In the epl its impirtant any new additions can communicate sufficiently by that i mean in the tongue of the land they play – if they somehow fail in this then evidently the players who come to play here will not be staying for long. Often i think the french are able to assimilate quicker to london and into the uk than the latin speaking playera – i hope we get more adfitions to provide the strength we desperately need from our neighbours accross the channel.
