Arsenal’s new number nine Viktor Gyökeres has hit the ground running off the pitch, issuing a cheeky but telling message to captain Martin Ødegaard after completing his move to the Gunners.
The Swedish striker became Arsenal’s sixth summer signing when he was unveiled on Saturday, 26th July, bringing an end to one of the window’s longest-running transfer sagas. Signed from Sporting CP for a reported €73.5 million including add-ons, Gyökeres watched from the stands as his new side beat Newcastle 3-2 in Singapore, before beginning his integration into the squad.
Gyökeres Keen to Get Going
In behind-the-scenes footage released by Arsenal, Gyökeres is seen reading a welcome message from Ødegaard. It reads, “If there’s anything you need or any way I can help you, just give me a shout.” With a smile, the Swede laughs and replies, “Some assists please, would be nice!” before adding again, “The only thing I need are some assists!”
It was a playful exchange, but one that reflects the striker’s laser focus on scoring goals. Gyökeres arrives in north London on the back of a phenomenal spell in Portugal, where he scored 97 goals in just two seasons. While replicating that tally in the Premier League may be unlikely, it’s clear he’s hungry to lead the line and convert chances created by Arsenal’s talented midfield.
Hopes High for Arsenal’s New Frontman
Mikel Arteta will be hoping the 27-year-old can be the final piece of the puzzle in his title-chasing squad. His blend of physicality, movement, and eye for goal make him a mouthwatering addition to an already exciting attack.
More than just goals, Gyökeres has the attitude to match. The desire he’s shown in his early interactions with staff and teammates is already winning over fans, and his willingness to integrate quickly bodes well for the upcoming season.
With Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Ødegaard (or indeed any of our new forwards!) supplying the bullets, Arsenal supporters will be hoping Gyökeres delivers on his promise, starting with a few well-timed assists from the skipper.

Our tactics and play under MA, especially in the last year or two, does not suit a striker. It’s far too slow with high possession and safe passing.
We’ll have to change the way we play and start putting in much earlier balls.
I’ve also noticed in preseason that Ode is too deep and not in the CAM position and almost getting in the way of Zubemendi. That will need to be addressed too to fit in all the new signings.
Time to see these tactics change

I’ve pointed this out severally in the past.
Arteta really needs to change his approach to games. And sincerely I’m not convinced by what I’ve so far in pre-season.
Seems we may need Eze more in that midfield to speed up our build-up.
Let’s go back to our fast paced attacking style with less passing of the ball around.
If he wants an assit master Odegaard needs replacing ,personally would have loved a number 10 rather than spending that money on Noni .

When Arteta is fired early in the season, there will be no shortage of potential replacements from the ranks of Arsenal fans. Lol
In my opinion, Victor’s presence will change the type of play flow that has been too slow for a long time. Here the first person to be responsible is Arteta himself. First of all, how to give freedom to Martinelli or whoever comes in that direction, for example Eze, Arteta should abandon the inverted fullback formation to make Martinelli have a good flow and not stay there on the edge of the field. Also, Saka needs to be a direct player with freedom like Yamal and not predictable by entering the middle all the time. If so, the team will be unstoppable this season
I think we may have to wait until next summer for that – unless Gyokeres can help Arteta/Arsenal win some silverware.
Some fans are anti-Arsenal.
Just support your team and stop complaining when there’s nothing to complain about.

Arteta himself might be the last piece of the puzzle to fix. That’s a fact you can’t shrug off but i’d have no tears to spare for him.
Excuses seem to be drying up now.
Clinical finisher signed as striker, cover for Saka, 2 midfield upgrades, full cover for back 4, and depth in every position.
Good headaches for Arteta this year, he will be spoiled for choice. Hope to see rotations, no reason to wear out the favored 17 like in years past.
I believe this season will be MA’s biggest challenge yet in most respects. I hope he gets the best out of the improved squad especially given what I believe will be a much improved league at the top compared to last season.
