“I really enjoyed it.” Christian Norgaard discusses Arsenal’s win against Slavia Prague

Christian Nørgaard has largely been a fringe player since his move to Arsenal in the summer from Brentford. The midfielder admitted he was surprised by Arsenal’s interest, but he could not turn down the opportunity to join a top club before the later stages of his career. Despite arriving as one of the Premier League’s most experienced and reliable midfielders, Nørgaard has often found himself on the bench, adjusting to a squad filled with established starters.

However, opportunities have begun to arise for the Dane, particularly in situations where Arsenal needed to rest regulars or were forced to make changes due to suspensions. His most recent chance came in the Champions League clash against Slavia Prague, where Martin Zubimendi’s suspension opened the door for Nørgaard to start. He seized the moment and delivered a strong performance, helping the team secure a vital victory and demonstrating his value to the squad.

Nørgaard’s Impact Against Slavia Prague

Nørgaard’s display against Slavia Prague highlighted his ability to step into high-pressure situations and perform effectively. The midfielder’s positioning, defensive awareness, and composure in possession allowed Arsenal to maintain control of the game while neutralising the opponent’s physical and direct style of play. His contribution was crucial in ensuring another clean sheet for the team, reinforcing the depth and versatility of Arteta’s squad.

Positive Outlook for Playing Opportunities

Speaking to Arsenal Media after the match, Nørgaard reflected on his experience:

“I really enjoyed it. We knew it was going to be difficult coming here, they make it very hard for their opponents with their direct play and they’re very physical. Over 90 minutes, we deserved the win, and it’s always good to get another clean sheet.”

His comments underline both his professionalism and satisfaction at contributing to the team’s success. With his strong performance in this Champions League fixture, Nørgaard is likely to earn more playing opportunities in the coming weeks, particularly in rotation or when key players are unavailable. His adaptability and experience make him a valuable asset for Arsenal as they compete across multiple competitions this season.

  1. I like him. I think he is getting over the excitement of joining the Arsenal, is settling in and will start showing great displays consistently, like he did against Slavia Prague. He was a wonderful player at Brentford and is a wonderful person. I wish him all the best.

  2. To be honest, he’s been fantastic. He was bought for a certain role, and he has slotted in seamlessly. Gets the job done and I have to say, his movement and pace is better than Jorginho’s. Obviously his passing is not better but I think we have Rice for that.

  3. Arsenal needs another powerful midfielder, many moons I stated Arsenal should sign both Declan Rice and the Caidieo kid from Brighton and a fan so hard, that this is not Real Madrid splashing money and players.

Fast forward to now, Arsenal needs another midfielder that can play ten weeks in the absence of Rice or Zubimendi without missing a beat.

  4. Aarteta mentioned recently about “finishsers”

The whole team have bouoght into this especially those not starting as they know with our pressing and other teams parking the bus (low block) they will get tired…

Also if very few shots being allowed let alone goals we need people at end of the game to shore things up with fresh legs.. Norgaard seems ideal for this

Also as a captain at Brentford he can also be a leader on the pitch as Jorginho was.. sadly Jorginho’s legs had gone and couldnt play as many games whereas Norgaard seems super fit !
