Infuriating Arsenal were sluggish and pedestrian against Brighton

Another terrible result in the league that effectively ends our pursuit of a top 4 finish. Whilst Arsenal were poor for large periods, we ultimately had the chances to win the game and failed to take them. We dominated the opening exchanges in terms of possession and territory, but didn’t look particularly threatening or incisive in the final third.

However, once we opened the scoring the game opened up, and whilst they threatened once or twice, we had a flurry of late first half chances that could’ve essentially wrapped it up. The way we started the second half is what infuriated me. We looked sluggish, slow and complacent, allowing them back into the game. This ultimately led to their equaliser, and our response to this was poor; although we created a couple of very good chances, we remained pedestrian in possession. The switch to the the back 3 with the substitutions didn’t help, but the chances missed essentially cost us, and unfortunately Emery cannot legislate for that.

On to the Europa League.

Leno was good as usual… Lacazette was the one player who actually tried to do things… Everyone else were pathetic… Honourable mentions- Xhaka…

If Unai Emery is really the guy, this transfer window is going to be entertaining

  2. Lupe says:

Our current midfield has to be the slowest and most sluggish i’ve seen in a long time. No pace, no mobility, no agility, no energy, just slow with sideways passing. We have nothing on the wings either, defence is terrible too. It’s going to take years and massive investments to undo a lot of bad buys before we are able to compete at the top.

    1. ?? too many mediocre players. I trust nobody in that team apart from Leno.

    2. Tobee says:

That’s because they want a deep-lying-lazy-sluggish-one directional player in Xhaka to do the work….don’t know how that guy is able to play modern football with his attitude.

  3. Sue says:

Awful game, terrible result – one to forget!
At least City cheered me up last night & I hope Barca do tonight! Come on!!!

    1. A J says:

    2. ?? Barcelona shall kick off Liverpool’s dramatic and heart-warming implosion.

      1. Sue says:

I sure do hope so, QD ?

  4. I’ve had plenty time to cool off. So I think our season can be salvaged. If we can get the result on Thursday and go on to win Europa the mood will change dramatically. Champions League football and we will be back with the big boys. Surely we can win 1 more game this season… that’s all we need!

  5. A J says:

Paper and cracks come to mind.

  6. jon fox says:

Alfie you should stop giving ratings UNTIL you learn to understand the widely accepted meaning of a six for average and and a seven for good. Your rankings are nonsensical and many have told you so, correctly, both now and in the past.l Stop being biased and be honest with yourself. People do not respect such obvious bias. I thought Ozil had one of his better games of late and he was still worth only a six. No one deserved a seven and most were fours or fives in honesty!
