Arsenal’s defensive stalwart William Saliba was forced to leave the pitch during the recent clash with Liverpool, and his injury has now prevented him from joining the France national team for the current international break. The setback has raised concerns, given his vital role at the club.

Saliba’s Record of Reliability

Saliba has established himself as one of the most reliable defenders in world football, with his consistency and resilience making him a cornerstone of Arsenal’s resurgence. Last season, he featured in 35 Premier League matches, missing only three, while also appearing in 11 Champions League fixtures and a further five domestic cup games. Such durability has been instrumental in strengthening Arsenal’s reputation at the highest level.

The defender’s exceptional fitness record has allowed him to maintain a presence at the heart of the team, and his availability has often been regarded as a key factor in Arsenal’s ability to compete with elite clubs. With his influence stretching beyond defensive stability, his injury has naturally prompted speculation about the potential impact on the squad in the weeks ahead.

Injury Assessment and Expert View

Although his withdrawal from the France squad may have initially suggested a serious problem, an injury expert has since offered a more optimistic assessment. Speaking to Metro Sport, Stephen Smith explained, “With this, they will be able to get that right quite quickly, I would have thought. They will be able to protect it and strap it up if needed and be able to get back out there relatively quickly. It didn’t appear to be a significant sprain, we would expect to see him back out there within two to three weeks.”

These comments provide reassurance that the setback may not lead to a long-term absence. Arsenal supporters will be hoping the defender’s recovery aligns with this timeline, given the importance of maintaining stability in the back line during a demanding run of fixtures.

Saliba’s consistent performances have proven crucial, and his fitness remains one of the most significant assets for the club. Ensuring his swift return will be vital not only for Arsenal’s ambitions in the league but also for their progress in European competition. The coming weeks will reveal how quickly he can recover and resume his place as one of the pillars of the side.

  1. Having read the Article, Arteta could just have pulled a master stroke by playing him knowing he was injured. Ie: he pulls out of the French squad and our next league game is in three weeks.

The expert estimates three weeks, well if that includes the International break, he could be ready for the Forest game. Our manager has just shown why he is known for his genius management.

How many people think there’s sarcasm in my post. 🤔🤷‍♂️

    1. Derek, there are many things you could reasonably criticize MA for, this Saliba incident is not one of them imo.

      1. Bruised Banana,

I beg to differ. Whether the Medical Team, the player himself, or Arteta gave the nod to me was just plain daft given that we were already without 7 players. Common sense should have prevailed.

And I find it quite ironic that our risk averse Manager from both a formation and playing football side, is only to willing to risk a player who got injured in the warm up.

The fact that thankfully the sprained ankle doesn’t look like keeping Saliba out for long, is not because of Arteta. It’s in spite of Arteta.

We’ll have to agree to disagree on this one I’m afraid. 👍

  2. Young Mosquera did very well when he deputised for Saliba against Liverpool and with Timber and White also available for the RCB position the absence of our talented Frenchman may not be a major blow, particularly since his injury does not seem to be serious. Even excluding MLS, we are very well covered this season in terms of quality defenders.
