Arsenal were victims of the international break injury curse for much of last season, with Martin Odegaard particularly affected during the campaign’s first international window.
The Gunners dreaded those breaks that forced them to release their players for international duty, and they have once again become victims. The latest concern involves Kai Havertz, who was forced off during the first half of Germany’s match against the Netherlands last night.
Havertz suffers injury during international duty
The window has only just begun, and Havertz has already suffered an injury after pulling up during Germany’s match. The Germans consider him one of their most important players, while the attacker has been working hard to remain valuable to his national team.
Havertz wants to stake a claim for a place in the team under Jurgen Klopp, and he started the match against the Netherlands. However, his injury before half-time will be a major concern for Arsenal, particularly given his importance to their attack.
The extent of the damage remains unknown, and Havertz was not the only German player to suffer an injury during the match. Jamal Musiala was also forced to leave the pitch after picking up an injury.

Klopp provides an injury update
After the fixture, Klopp said via Standard Sport:
“Both will undergo scans tonight.
“They’re probably out for us, but I hope they’ll be back soon (for their clubs).”
The comments indicate that further assessment will be required before the extent of Havertz’s injury becomes clear. Arsenal will therefore have to wait for the results of his scans before knowing how long he could be unavailable.
Havertz has been in excellent form since the start of the season and has been starting ahead of Viktor Gyokeres. His injury could therefore represent a significant blow to Arsenal, particularly if he is ruled out for an extended period.
The Gunners will now hope that the scans provide positive news and that Havertz can return to action for Arsenal as soon as possible.

If he is out for a little bit of time, VG will get starts and this may make him match sharp in a few games.
Hopefully!
We need him sharp and to rotate players.
Not surprised really, Havertz has played too much knowing his injury history. Unfortunately it has come early in this season.
I am concerned about Saka as well; his form lately is bench-worthy, not sure if he is still carrying a slight injury also.
Bruno and MLS should be able to give Rice a rest; if they are not trusted, then they should be gone.
Hopefully an opportunity for Madueke; no reason not to try him, it’s not like Saka is in peak form and unbenchable.
We have some players returning, so time to start rotating to avoid injuries from overplaying our guys, no excuses really.
“ Bruno and MLS should be able to give Rice a rest”
It’s funny how Merino is always overlooked by us fans. Merino is not 3rd choice striker, he is a centre midfield at the very height of his power – the number of balls he physically challenged for first half of last season built the platform for our title. And he just plops more seamlessly into the Rice left 8 role.
Rice has been playing 6 though, either side of the season break, 6 is more Zubi or Bruno.
A run of matches for Merino in place of Rice is fine by me.
This is exactly why the club were stupid to sell Martinelli, and not to add to the attack as well.
And this isn’t even a case of hindsight, it’s been blatantly obvious from the summer. It’ll be interesting to see where we are come January.
The piece says Havertz has been in excellent form for Arsenal, have they been watching the same player that I have. 🤦♂️
I guess that depends on how you look this. As a stereotypical forward, Havertz is not that outstanding. From Arsenal tactical perspective, our manager surely rates him high.
Some of us do not remember the first several seasons of Havertz at Arsenal. Even now, it is an exertion (instead of a seamless piece of our puzzle) to fit him in our system. I do not see people giving VG the same patience after merely one season.
A bigger issue is what kind of players should we get. VG has his strength and weakness, so does Havertz. We do not seem to get attacking players who have a higher level of compatibility with our system and we are always retooling the players, like Eze. One can call that adaptation while the half full cup can also mean rigidity and forcefulness.
MA and Berta will need to work on this. Hope all these noises on VG did not ruin his confidence yet, we will need him for sure.
In Germany, before Chelsea, youthful Havertz excelled as an exuberant 10. Maybe he has never been a 9. Or an 8.
I think Arsenal are over doing the keep ball ball, walk it into net football. Kai, Victor and Ode can all play together – start Kai as inward drifting left forward to Vics 9 and Ode’s 10. It’s hard and daft to say we are going more direct, more crosses in please, if you don’t set up to have people in middle to get on the end of it.
I vaguely remember Havertz was tried as a 10 for us in some games, but that did not work out. I suppose it is a pressure and tempo issue like what is bothering Wirtz. Inward drift left to pair up with VG sounds very interesting.
The keep the ball and walk it in idea is surely overdone by our team, all the unnecessary turns and back dribbles could have been avoided. On the other hand, Saka side, to me, has been almost inadequate on this when he is close to the opponent’s box. Sometimes he could have simply pass the ball to a better positioned teammate, instead, he carried on in solo.
MA ball has evolved to what it is now, not as direct and attacking as some of us may like. I want trophies for our club, but I still miss watching Wenger’s attack.
It’s Hammy for Kai. Looks like he will miss Arsenal games with this injury.
Yeah, my lip-reading skills are poor, especially in German, but it seemed that he was indicating to his medical team that it was his hamstring.
He did take a studs-up on his knee earlier from the other Timber, so there might also be an issue there.
Jax,
On Havertz going down, did someone shout Timber!.😂🤣
