Is Akpom the reason Arsenal are releasing TWO strikers?

The young Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom may only have played for around 10 minutes at the end of the defeat to Southampton the other day, and it having been his first Premier League action of the season, but Arsenal fans could soon be seeing Akpom on a more regular basis.

There are plenty of attacking options for Arsene Wenger, and that is one of the reasons for Lukas Podolski to have arranged to leave the Emirates and play on loan for Inter Milan until the end of the season, but I don’t think the boss would have let the dangerous German international leave if he thought he might be needed.

It also seems as though our young French forward Yaya Sanogo may be allowed to go loan, whether back to the French Ligue 1 or with another Premier League club, so that would leave Wenger with considerably less cover up front. I think the manager is trying to get Akpom some valuable experience as well because the 19-year old has been fantastic for the reserves, with nine goals in as many games, and he could be the next big thing to come out of the Arsenal academy.

Hopefully we will see Akpom against Hull City later, especially if we are well ahead and able to give the promising young player longer than 10 minutes. Is Akpom set for a great future with Arsenal?

  1. Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha,no disrespect to chuba akpom but honestly how low have we fallen??
So Manchester city are looking to sign a striker despite having aguero, dzeko and jovetic, but Arsenal are releasing strikers because of a 19 year old chuba akpom. Wenger is a genius!!!!!

    1. So are you saying Akpom should never be given a chance in the first team? I think he deserves a chance to prove himself because he’s been destroying the U21 league this season. Now that giroud is suspended and welbeck is out, it is THE big opportunity that he has been waiting for. You fans always complain about how people like Campbell never get a chance, now that Wenger might want to give a chance to young Chuba you say that ‘we’ve fallen so low’? SMH

  2. I really feel he deserves a chance in the first, apart from giroud he’s taller than the rest of our strikers, So he could be helpful when crosses are pulled in. He’s also quick with the ball and also a good finisher

    1. Yes he is similar to Welbeck in terms of physical attributes; tall, strong and pacey. But he’s not really a target man so I’m not sure how useful he would be from crosses. Will defo be better than the likes of Cazorla and Sanchez at aerial duels though.

  3. There is something special about seeing a homegrown talent making the transition to the first team. I suspect Akpom won’t get much more time than Sanogo was getting – he’s still fifth or sixth on the pecking order if everyone is healthy – but it would be a fantastic silver-lining in an otherwise very forgettable season if he shows he can translate his u21 form (although the ghosts of Sanchez-Watts, Jay Simpson, JET and Chuks Aneke are rattling around in my keyboard as I type this)

  4. Well, if thats the case, i wont be suprised. Remember this guy have brought the injured Kallstrom when we were in the 1st place in EPL.

  5. No . Wenger has released Podolsk’s who contributed with goals because he has bought Welbeck who is contributing some good runs.

  6. Akpom, just like Ozil, Sanogo, Alexis, Chambers, Welbeck, Carzola, Arshavin, Campbell, Vela and many other players who joined Arsenal will start well and the slowly deteriorate due to Wenger’s excessively poor n whack training skills. Now don’t get me wrong, the Wenger of old was a genius and could spin straw into gold. but the current Wenger has perfected the reverse of that!!!
The current good players we have came while good and have in a way maintained their form. MOST have hugely deteriorated and some just deterioriated. Wait n see Alexis become Sanogo the 2nd!!!

    1. πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™

      # I forgot the sad faces, but there they are now. They are usually three but I have added two as bonus. To my fans, I am very sorry, it won’t happen again πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™

    2. Totally agree.Podolski was released because Wenger didn’t like him .As simple as that. All these young players will never develop under Wenger and to be honest i don’t want him to spend any further monies,it will simply be a waste.I want this man out of Arsenal Fc and if that means we fall to mid table so be it.Achieving 4th place just keeps him his job and whats the point of that. The club needs CHANGE and with him in charge this will never happen. So we need to take some more pain before we get the gain

      1. You are right. Releasing Poldi was a result of Wenger’s ego and vindictiveness. It had nothing to do with trying to win football games.

      2. I agree with u pal, 4th just keeps him in
arsenal yet with him is eternal damnation: (
It is true, loosing UCL is painful, but if its the
        only price then its worthy

  8. Wenger is releasing Sanogo because he never intended to get Welbeck who now fills his slot.

Wenger is releasing Poldi (not as a striker) because Wenger is a vindictive moron. Why else would you ignore the best finisher in the league with the best goal-per-minute ratio in the league???

  9. So here’s what we have now Poldi is in sunnier climes (meteorologicaly and actual):

Sanchez – World Class, enough said!

Welbeck- learning on the job , useful squad player who currently misses too many chances.

Giroud – Decent and effective centre forward.
Akpom – one for the future – unproven at PL level

Sanagoo – raw talent with a future but not going to set the world alight. Best loaned out or IMO preferably sold.

We need another WC or approaching WC forward.

Cavani/Reus – possibly RM bound ‘what a surprise’, or Dybala (short guy who runs at people and who has technique like aguero and reminds me of messi.)

Cavani would cost buckets, Reus the same and is probably unavailable so even though his unproven in the PL I would go for Dybala. Messi like skills for a cut price of Β£31 odd million (I know wenger will never pay this).

Back to Earth, David Carroll would probably come cheap;)

    1. Andre ayew or konoplayanka would be good replacement both have six months left and would be more effective than poldi down the left.both players are also 25 meaning they will come into their best years at arsenal

      Under 10m, good, still growing,good standard already,pace,trickery,versatile

  10. the way Tottenham and Southampton are going is giving there youths a chance lol

    Spurs;mason, bentaleb,Kane
    Sth Hampton ward prouse,….

  11. Akpom a good player but lets be honest he needs a lot more time to develop his skills.

This is just Wengers way out of buying a Top Top class striker which Arsenal badly need.
