Is it crazy to suggest Arsenal could sign Lionel Messi next summer?

Will Messi finally be a Gunner? by Shenel

As I am sure all you Gooners are aware, Lionel Messi’s contract at Paris St Germain expires next year. And talk is rife that he could return to Barcelona.

But wouldn’t it be crazy for Arsenal to go in for him as well? Wishful thinking right? LOL…

Well as I write this it does make me chuckle a bit ,but as I said previously, never say never.

Anything can happen in the world of football.

As we have seen previously, King and Legend Mr Thierry Henry broke our hearts when he left the first time round to join Barcelona in 2007, but he returned in 2012 for a loan spell the second time around, and I for one was not complaining when he returned.

I have always said Messi will fit into our style of play, as we play like Barcelona’s B team and we mirror them in most things we do on the pitch. Although we have added a bit more to our game, you never quite lose the style and flare.

Even at the age of 36 Messi still has the magic touch. He is scoring goals and although he found his form a little bit late at PSG, at the end of it he has found the form and is back to his best, albeit not at the level he was when he was at Barcelona. But he still has lots to give and one thing cannot be denied, his love for the beautiful game. And when you have that passion for your job, performances will soon find you.

So as you see Gooners, anything is possible and anything can happen in the world of football and maybe, just maybe, the Kroenke’s will dip into their pockets and branch out for us to sign one of the best players in the world.

Because Messi, Jesus and Martinelli, alongside the rest of the team, rolls off the tongue rather nicely now doesn’t it!

We can but dream I guess!

  1. Hopefully Kroenke will never think about it

Similar to Ronaldo, Messi is a world-class finisher, but they no longer have energy to press high up the pitch frequently due to their ages. They also need highly technical and experienced players around them

    1. Exactly…

players at that age is only useful for 15-30min max….

In a 90 min game, Ronaldo spend most of his time walking

he relies heavily on his positioning, finishing and the timing of his limited runs to score goals

      1. He might still be able to play like that at Real Madrid, because of the qualities and experience of Real Madrid players/ coaches. Unfortunately, an unstable team that’s undergoing a big transition like Man United need tireless high pressers

        1. High pressers LOL…..with the amount of young players Manchester United has they still perform woefully on the pitch, Manchester United lacks team balance from the midfield. Pressing is not what is required at man utd and I can assure you that if messi is at that man utd team they surely won’t be as bad as this….. They will Even better than this

          1. Solskjaer led Man United team quiet well before Ronaldo came, because of the collective high pressing efforts

Since Ten Hag dropped Ronaldo and used high pressers like Rashford/ Sancho/ Elanga/ Fernandes, Man United got more consistent results

      2. Bro…. Ronaldo is not messi vice versa, if you watch messi really well you can see that he drops really deep and always get involved in his team attack, you can see his performance with the national team and you claiming he needs worldclass players to play well is actually a false claim because his latter years in barcelona was played with alot of unexperienced players and kids likewise with his national team….you can’t compare Portugal squad depth with the Argentina national team and yes every coach loves to have lionel messi on his team

  2. Yes he his 36 yrs old but his performance on the pitch oversees most of the young players arsenal has…..with messi other players will play well and he will also bring experience to the team and likewise being the leader. There is a saying” Class is permanent while form is temporarily…..you can look at his performance at psg now he acts more as a playmaker, paving ways for others to score. There’s is no doubt that he will be a world class signing for arsenal

  3. Errr… no.

36 years old, high wages, big name… he will upset the equilibrium of the squad.

Hopefully Edu/MA are wiser than that.

  4. He will sell jerseys and other stuff but team output on the field will be impacted negatively. He is too old and should retire.

  5. While the article is not worth commenting upon Messi was, without doubt, one of the top three forwards I have seen in my lifetime.Pele is also in my top three ,but who is the missing member of my trio.Neither Ronaldo is up there for me and ,as a clue, the player concerned never played for a British Club.

    1. It cannot be Arsene Wenger, he played center back during his illustrious playing carrier. It has to be Maradona or Puskas.
Back to the topic, L. Messi? We have the Messi of managers managing our team. Another Messi would spoil the equilibrium.

      1. Two fabulous players LC, but my third was Johan Cruyff who ought to have won the World Cup with the Dutch side which was the best on the planet at the time.Funnily enough the same applies to Puskas who captained the “Magical Magyars” of the 1950s.Some of our more mature subscribers will vouch for the calibre of the great Hungarian and Dutch sides who are, in my opinion, a cut above any of the current international sides of today.

  6. Shenel you are a bold writer and you will be taken to the cleaners,

Roger Miller is a hero now in his home land but it was a very bold call by someone to include him in the team now that is history.

While I would not support the Messi to Arsenal now, but a player of equal age and stature could serve us well in our defensive third for Saliba and company to learn from, even a Kante.

  7. Despite his age he is immense,..any team would accept him
Do we need him,..no,..only because we have to reshape the whole team only for him,..and we are doing great now…don’t fix it until you’re broke

  8. I’ll take Mbappe over Messi rn. Except for the wages he fits Arteta ball perfectly. No disrespect to Lionel but the games are more different now than before.

  9. Apart from being extremely unlikely, Messi would not be able to start every game, and would disrupt the team’s formation when he played. Ronaldo at United has become an expensive mistake.
