Is the Liverpool game make-or-break for Arsene Wenger?

Arsene has a massive game against Liverpool by KM

It’s been a quiet week for Arsenal, but one that gave us a much needed break. Time to freshen up some heads, get a quick break and come back with the necessary focus to play Liverpool.

This game is huge for us because a win would give us a great hand up on a struggling Liverpool side. Nevertheless though Liverpool tend to turn up for the big games, something we at Arsenal tend to flop. And you can label me negative but I hardly see us going there with an attitude that would get us anything out of the game.

First of all, I’m not sure all players really care for Arsenal or their next club more. Sanchez is leaving 90%, Ozil’s future hangs tied to the one of Arsene and the mood in the squad is low. Lucas is unhappy and understandably so and Danny Welbeck, despite being awesome gets rare and limited game time.

As I said in previous articles about which players would miss Arsene, Ramsey has come out to say players ‘let the manager down’. I think the boss let himself down once again by believing in false ideas and players. Reports say he’s denied 30m a year from China and if that is true it only boosts the idea that it’s the power he loves, not the money.

The real problem for Arsene is United, City and Spurs all showed signs of revitalisation. What saved his top 4 record so many years was lack of real competition. It was usually either Liverpool, Chelsea or Man U having a real bad season but now all teams look at a similar pace and it will come down to quality, which is where Arsene is behind these days.

The Liverpool game will speak volumes about our desire and I expect to see exactly what we always do – crumble. The negativity around a club can be resolved by changing the manager and you can look at Leicester as a prime example. The champions sacked a manager iconic to their history in order to save the season and they destroyed Liverpool.

Hull City changed managers and despite their awful situation off the pitch and the fact they sold one of their best players, you can see some life in them. Swansea also show improved signs of life. And change of manager can change a top team too – just look at Chelsea!

Rumours say Allegri and I really want to believe it’s true, but those rumours come from sources like the Metro and the sun. I fear we will let the season go to hell, but is the top 4 really that important? We’re super rich anyway, but United attracted the likes of Ibrahimovic, Di Maria and Pogba without CL football, but I doubt we’ll go with the cash out approach to attract players.

That’s why it’s important for us to keep our silly top 4 record. To give a possible new manager a platform with a better starting point. That’s only if we opt for change, which I still refuse to believe! If we don’t top 4 or not doesn’t really matter to me. Arsene has lost his credibility on evidence of the past 10 years for me and if we miss out on the top 4 it will only hurt him, his ego and it will be a reflection of his unwillingness to leave when he should.

Arsene has nowhere to hide if he fails at Anfield. Klopp, who does a remarkable job with average players over there is under pressure. Arsene shows what happens to you when there’s no pressure. You stop progressing. A defeat at the northwest will only add more weight to his free fall.

I’m repeating myself here but he has no good move other than to announce as soon as possible that he’ll leave at the end of this season.

  1. We have had some make or break games this season. Unfortunately, most times we end up breaking things up this season.

Anyway, I hope we win at Anfield.

  2. Wenger should leave and the last three season are proof of that. He has run out of excuses. Look at the money we spent this past summer!!! He can no longer hide behind insufficient funds. The board has supported him as much as he could expect financially.

Now of course if Wenger was a realist he would not be with the club any longer or as you suggest he would announce he departure now. The Barca manager had the good sense to do that allowing Barca to plan for their future and creating clarity and thus removing the atmosphere of doubt from both the locker room and the fans.

This is why I don’t know what to think about the fact that we will not finish in the top 4 this season. Sure if Wenger announces he will not sign a new contract it would be better for the next manager if we finish in the top 4 no matter how unlikely that now seems.

But if Wenger is continuing to hold the negative cloud of uncertainty over his future with the club on purpose in the hope the annual late rally to secure a top 4 spot would justify a new contract then I would rather finish 7th, outside of the European football places allowing a new manager to focus just on the PL and taking any arguments away from Wenger that would delude him into thinking he should continue his unsuccessful reign and the systematic dismantling of our competitive status and DNA.

    1. I know you are always happy just like Arsene is with results, but truth is Alexis and Ozil haven’t signed new contracts for a reason and I’m pretty sure Welbeck and Lucas are so happy to see players like Iwobi and Walcott being picked in front of them despite doing pretty much nothing on the pitch. I don’t know which games you are watching, but the faces on the players in the squad haven’t looked good in the past 2 months. But luckily for you, we’ll be stuck with Arsene, because he said he’s focused on Arsenal and probably the only reason he hasn’t yet announced he is staying is because he is waiting for people to calm down and forget their frustration with the constant humiliations, so he could happily sign another 2 years… Pathetic!

  3. Liverpool have an excellent record in the league this season against the top seven, whilst Arsenal’s is abysmal…as usual! Which read as follows:

    W D L PTS
    Liverpool 5 4 0 19
    Arsenal 1 2 4 5

As you can see, there’s a massive difference. Liverpool have struggled against the lesser teams, but are even out performing the mighty Chelsea in the big games. Whilst Arsenal have been terrible, and even worse if you take into account the three big games Europe.

Unless Wenger gets his team selection, and tactics correct on the day (which is very unlikely), we should get something, as Arsenal have the better players. Although I can only see yet another defeat, coupled with an all too familiar insipid performance. As always in these big games, score draw at best I would say.

  4. Am still wondering who are the fans dat are still backing wenger despite him stagnating the club fir this long and continue to make the same mistakes over and over again. Wenger have been backed financially by the board in the last 3 years but we have gotten worst

  5. Give it a rest, Konstantin. Wenger will leave when he decides to leave. Time to start writing about something else. It was funny in the beginning; amusing at best later on; and now it’s just downright pathetic. What’s more embarrassing is that you keep recycling your own material, while accusing Wenger of using the same excuses over the years. In case you don’t know, it’s called hypocrisy.

  6. I find it fascinating how you (Konstantin) know exactly what’s going in players’ heads. Sanchez is leaving, this guy will only stay with Arsene, the other one is unhappy, etc… Are you their shrink? If that’s the case, you’re breaking their trust and there’s a thing called confidentiality. As for Klopp who does “remarkable” job with his players, have you seen their games/results lately? As far as I know they lost several games to relegation bound teams, and are currently sitting below us in the table. You’re a clown, Konstantin, who can’t even support your ridiculous statements with real facts. If you actually worked as a journalist for a reputable paper, you’d be fired in no time, because stuff like that is not allowed there. Can’t believe it’s been allowed in here for so long.

    1. You are the clown Vlad. If Wenger does the same wrong things season after season, do you expect Konstatin to change what he writes about Wenger just to please you? Its true that every tactic, system and excuse that Wenger employs is always predictable. And if he keeps doing it over and over, we shall also criticise the same over and over. Its your right if you feel that Wenger is good enough or that the situation at Arsenal is okey. But for everyone’s sake stop this name-calling and acting snobbish.
      We are all Arsenal fans.

      1. I don’t mind subjective criticism of our manager, players, and so on. But what Konstantin does is he writes about the same thing over and over and over again. He wants Wenger out, I get it, but I feel like there’s a better way of getting your message across rather than spitting out the same garbage every other day. I’ve been following him for some time now, and realized that he actually recycles his own material, which is ridiculous. He never supports his articles with real facts (for example, see reference to Klopp above), and just relies on rumors, and his own intuition. He even admits to often not watching the games, and drawing conclusions from what he reads online (really?!). What comes out of it – the same non-sense that I’m frankly tired of reading. Yes, you could say that I can just skip it, but I feel like I’m not alone on this when I say that Enough is Enough!
