Is this Arsenal team capable of challenging for the title?

Arsenal’s transfers have made them capable of winning the league!

If you think back to a week ago, our only signings were Granit Xhaka, Rob Holding and then two complete unknown ‘talents’ according to Arsene Wenger. It was considered to be a very poor transfer window for Arsenal and the fans had once again become extremely frustrated with Arsene Wenger over his lack of intent in the transfer market.

A week later however and the long overdue signings of Lucas Perez and Shkodran Mustafi have put a smile on the faces of Arsenal fans as we can hope that they can help us stride towards a more challenging position for the league title this season. One expert of the game, who often has his say on Sky Sports about Arsenal, is pundit Charlie Nicholas, who despite showing concern for the Gunners in the past, is this time quite content that Wenger’s signings could give us a real chance of competing this season.

Nicholas said: “I think the team that needed to do business more than anyone else was Arsenal and Arsene Wenger has successfully identified the two areas, positions I’ve been on about for five years, and signed a centre-back and a striker. Unfortunately, they now start five points behind but it’s time for Arsenal fans to move on and be positive again because they’ve come out this transfer window with a squad capable of challenging the Manchester clubs.”

Mustafi and Perez are ‘almost’ in my opinion, the final pieces to the puzzle that Arsenal need to compete at the highest level again. We have added strength to our squad with these signings, especially in defence with Mustafi, although I do still think we lack something up front. However these two signings will be pivotal for the success of our season in my opinion, because they will both be regular starters and key players in their positions. We need Mustafi to add strength and presence to our back line and we need pace, skill and most importantly GOALS, from Perez up front.

As Charlie Nicholas says, Arsenal are slightly on the backfoot already this season given we already find ourselves five points behind the league leaders after three games, but we will undoubtedly catchup and once we do, it’s then important that we don’t drop anymore points due to lacklustre performances.

In my opinion Arsenal arguably may not have the best team in the league, but we have a squad full of talent and a squad that should undoubtedly be challenging for the league title this season.

  1. I believe Arsenal CAN do it. But I always believe that.

Is the Arsenal squad stronger this year? Yes. But with increase in cash flowing to EPL clubs, other squads have been strengthened also. So………

Bottom Line: Don’t have a clue about the league title. And in the end it is not the most important thing to me. I just want to see great free-flowing, attack-minded, Arsenal style football. And I definitely believe this squad can do that. Cannot wait.

  2. Most fans and pundits predicted Manchester United or Manchester City for the title. A few went for Chelsea..

It’s a good thing no one is looking at Arsenal. We can do our business quietly in the season and give it a go. I also predicted manu to win the title but in the epl, you never know.

The squad looks stronger now. Other teams also improve their team as well so it ain’t gonna be easy but we can fight for the league. Mustafi and Perez lifted a lot of fans I must say.

  3. We are hoping for a wonderful season.
I believe the new players will do well. Arsene is my biggest problem.
    1. Will he be able to motivate these players when spirits are down?
    2. Will he be flexible with tactics when required?
    3. Will he be more ruthless when selecting his team?
    4. When he finds a winning formula with a set of players, in a case where one of them gets injured, will he have able to successfully continue the run with other players?
    5. Will he always stand firm and know what to do when we are in losing positions instead of kicking bottles, zipping and unzipping, blaming and complaining to officials….?

These are some of the issues I have with our Manager.

    1. The facts are Arsene Wenger came to Arsenal in 96,Arsenal had 10 league titles and so did Man United but in the 20 years he’s been there he’s won 3 league titles to move our tally to 13 while Man United added 11 to move their tally to 21,the team may be capable of winning the title but Wenger is not capable,he averages a title in every 6.7 seasons that’s not a great record at all,so no we won’t win the league!

  4. On September 2, 2016

    Vlad says:
“I think it’s time for Jackie boy to hand over that number 10 to the rightful owner – Ozil. For years I never understood what he did to deserve that number which was worn before him by a LEGEND (#DB10).”

    Twig replys:
“Ozil doesn’t need the number 10. He has been number 11 or 8 most of his career, hasn’t he”..

Forward Only a day after on September 3, 2016.
When asked by German newspaper Express about the No.10 shirt Ozil comes out to say:

“It just went free, and I definitely want it. I’d wanted the number for years but so did Lukas Podolski. And he got to keep it because he had more caps than I did. Now I’ve pounced…

It’s my favorite number. Football legends like Zinedine Zidane, Diego Maradona and Pele wore that number on their backs. I’d be really very happy to have it.”

Speaking to Sport1 about wanting the No10 shirt, the former Real Madrid star said, “Of course I have previously given those in charge a signal. The number is right for me and my position as a playmaker..”

  5. In other news, Ozil signals that he is willing to re-enter contract talks!
He has probably gotten one of his wishes already – make Arsenal show some more ambition in this summer’s transfer window.?

THANK YOU MESUT, FOR ASSISTING US THE FANS IN GETTING OUR MESSAGE ACROSS TO THE POWERS THAT BE AT AFC.

  6. I look at the squad now and how much depth it has, and I feel we have a real shot at winning the league. Then I look at Manchester United, and Guardiola’s City and I say…. MAYBE NOT!

But I appreciate the fact that this time we haven’t put ourselves at a disadvantage like we’ve done couple of times before. Now we’ve showed we are ready for the challenge.

  7. This is the strongest team we’ve had since the RVP/Nasri/Cesc/Arshavin days. I believe we can do it. But for that to happen, we need our top players to be in form for 90% of the season. And other than minor annoyances like cough and common cold, be fit and available throughout the season.

    1. Arsenal last won the Premier league in 2004 meaning they’ve won 3 titles since 92 when it started but have 13 English league titles overall,at that time Chelsea had never won the Premier league before they started winning in 2005 but they already have 4 meaning they’ve won more Premier League titles than our 3 since 92 when the league as we know it was formed!

  8. Right now I am running a stats-based player-for-player comparison for 5 teams (Arsenal, United, City, Leicester and Chelsea) using Sqwaka’s comparison matrix.

So far in the Goalkeeping department, we’ve edged all 4 of those other teams.

Then for the defense, midfield, and attack, I will run the matrix for each and come up with comprehensive articles (hopefully ?) which shall be posted on here for discussion, with Admin’s permission.

    Working on it right now.

  9. This is the best Arsenal squad for at least the past 10 years in my opinion. I am excited to watch them! I think they finally have a decent chance to win the EPL. Too bad about spotting the competition 5 points! Come on you gunners!!

    1. Heard the folks at the Emirates were asking Arsene to sign him up!

That moment you remember he wasn’t even first choice when the likes of Henry played!

Truly Arsenal has had many great great strikers.
Oh boy, times have changed indeed.

  10. I think so

    As long as
    1. Wenger plays the right players and formation
    2. The team gels quickly and runs like a well oiled machine
    3. Alexis, Perez, Giroud score lots of goals

    …………………..Cech
    Bellerin…Koscielny…Mustafi…Monreal
    ……………Xhaka….Cazorla
    Alexis/Walcott…..Ozil…….Perez/Alexis
    ……………….Giroud/Perez

  11. Yes of course! Is that even a question? Why is there a big article about it. That is what we all would like to see, wouldn’t we? Not only that, I believe that, with some luck in the fixtures (finishing the goddamn Group stage at First place) we can certainly win the Champions League. Up the Gunners!!

  12. challenging- Yes.. winning the title- let’s wait and see what Lucas Perez is made of and if wenger finally benches Giroud.
