Is this Moscow star REALLY the answer for Arsenal’s midfield?

I must admit that I had never heard of the subject of this one of the many Arsenal transfer rumours doing the rounds at the minute. But apparently the Brazilian defensive midfield star Romulo is the player that Arsene Wenger is set to bring to the Emirates to solve the central midfield problems that have been going on for so long.

The 24-year old is currently playing in Russia for Spartak Moscow, but according to a Metro report the talks about his imminent transfer to north London and the Premier League are well underway. In fact the report claims that Romulo could become an Arsenal player as soon as this weekend.

He apparently has interest and offers from various clubs back In Brazil but the Brazilian media seem to think that he is all set to join the Gunners and attempt to add the strength, steel and skill that Arsenal fans have long been crying out for.

Having never heard of him, I am not exactly over the moon about this transfer news, but he did play all six games for Brazil at the London Olympics and has earned eight caps for the full Brazil national team. With the likes of Fernandinho for competition, that suggests he is more than decent, but Arsenal have not had much success recently with players from Brazil, as the memory scars from Andre Santos and Denilson have yet to heal.

But will Romulo be like them or be more like Gilberto Silva?

  1. not good enough….we need big name world class DM…someone strong big and fast…

get Mvilla, capoue, mbigwa, sissoko, etc….the all time fan favs…

    1. Had to chuckle at the phrase ‘world class’ after you went on to name capoue and m’biwa ….hahaha

I also love the way that the author considers this fringe player for the Brazilian national squad romulo to be decent because it’s hard competing with man city’s back up midfielder this year fernandinho ….

We need stars of world football to start closing the gap on the elite !

    1. Age. Romulo is 24, Gustavo 27. Wenger loves to sign players with years and years of football for the club. 27 gives you maybe 4 years of world class play. The good thing is that you usually get it instant, so I personally agree with you.

  2. I’ve been watching vertonghen and I think he is the answer to our defensive problems.
He reminds me a lot of the verminator. He is left sided, he scores, he is comfortable on the ball, he can play left back. Not to mention the orgasmic feeling of poaching him from spurs.
Though unlikely, my second choice would be ivanovic. He is a beast and is versatile. If we can get both then I’ll believe anything is possible. My dream of driving a porsche 918 in Africa will materialise.

  3. We don’t need okay players, we already have enough of those.. We need one of the bests.
Get Javi Martinez and get it over with. This is the best time to get him from Bayern as he is injured and might need 3months to be his old self.

  4. Not too expensive at only €8 mil. 6ft2 and a defensive midfielder, any upgrade over Flamini will be an improvement. I don’t think we can be choosers for the DM position this Winter Transfer. Schneiderlin just will not happen, why would Southampton sell now. Pogba at 40 mil is the stuff of wet dreams, but I can not see that one happen either. Khedira is more a B2B than a holding midfielder. Carvalho/Kondogbia have super agent Mendes so they will not join Arsenal.
