Is this transfer loan deal a perfect solution to Arsenal’s keeper dilemma?

One of the big decisions facing Arsene Wenger as the Frenchman spends the summer preparing for what us fans are hoping will be the season in which we regain the Premier League title last won by Arsenal in 2004, is what to do about the goalkeeper situation.

Clearly the number one choice for the boss, in Premier League games at least, will be the Czech Republic international Petr Cech, as long as the former Chelsea star is fully fit of course. But after that things get a lot more complicated.

A club like Arsenal that has high expectations of doing well in the domestic cup competitions as well as the league, not to mention the small matter of the Champions League group games and hopefully the latter stages, needs a strong squad and that must include a very good reserve keeper.

The problem is that it is hard to get the balancing act right, with keepers that good rarely happy to spend most of the season on the bench. The problem is even worse for Arsenal as we have two of these back up options so Wenger has to decide how best to utilise them.

The big decision for him this summer was about whether to have David Ospina or Wojciech Szczesny as understudy to Cech but he may have just been offered an easy way out, as a Daily Mail report reveals that Szczesny is wanted for another year by the Italian Serie A club Roma where he spent a successful last season.

While this may not be a permanent solution and we could have the same problem next year, it does buy the manager time. It also gives the Poland international another season of first team football to help his confidence and form. And after Ospina did get some game time with an injury to Cech last year, the decision to keep him at the club rather than Szczesny could be just what he needs to make him feel wanted enough to wait for his chances without getting too frustrated.

What do you think Gooners?
