Jack Wilshere is supposedly close to a new Arsenal contract, while Mesut Ozil is linked with an exit, but which player is more important to the future of the club?
With Arsene Wenger set to depart the club after over 20 years in charge, there is plenty of changes expected to be instilled over the coming seasons, and there is much talk of an overhaul of the squad as well as the backroom staff, but there are certain players which are more important than others.
Few will disagree that players like Aaron Ramsey, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Mavropanos are players that need to be kept to help us move forward, but they are not the only players who are important as we look to build for the future, and some would argue that Jack Wilshere is a player who can play a big part.
The midfielder has been at the club since he was eight, and has been earmarked by many as a potential future captain at Arsenal, and his performances this season have been a huge indicator as to how important his presence and ability can be to us post-Wenger.
Another player who could well leave the club in the coming summer is Mesut Ozil, who is linked with a return to Spain with Barcelona. the German is deemed a luxury at times, albeit whilst retaining the ability of a world-class player, but his inability to perform consistently jars many a Gunner all too often.
Wilshere is now believed to be nearing an agreement with Arsenal which will see him sign a new three-year contract, but there is also believed to be offers on the table for him to move elsewhere, with Everton and AC Milan believed to be keen on his signature this summer.
Is Jack the Lad more important to Arsenal following Wenger’s departure? Could another boss find the key to Ozil’s consistency? Whose future is most important to the club?
Pat J
Why not wait for the new boss to come in and toughen up the boys first? Since everyone keeps saying Ozil ain’t a defender. Let the new boss come in and build the defence and midfield, then we’ll know if Ozil would go back to his best without pressures on him.
To be honest i don’t really know if i Want Wilshere and Ozil next season. But since we all know we won’t spend the money to get a player better than Ozil, we have no choice but to keep em
We have gotten Ozil’s replacement in mhkirtaryan, just get a right winger!
mhkitaryan is a good dribbler, but im not sure of his ability to pass the ball…the last game vs leicester he mistake the pass a lot
ooh my dear “Mr.sick-off” .He is a wonderful player but very mischievous… we all know he Wenger is very soft on him considering the fact that his salary can pay 4 Kosielnys.
pretending to be sick with world cup in his mind..
Both should go, because they don’t have new ideas like Wenger
I’m glad if Ozil can move to Barcelona. He would find players that have the same concept as his and he cannot thrive again without the help of the world class players
Doesn’t work hard enough for Barcelona. He wouldn’t last very long there
ozil is pampered and spoilt. I bet he cannot dare his lazy body language under someone like Allegri. Wenger allowed it and some other shit attitudes from our so called stars
What a stupid topic?!
Wilshere will stay 🙂 and only one with a problem with new manager is Ramsey cos he most of the time flys all over the pitch. Without Wenger big change will come for him.
and If Ozil is from UK most of the fans would praise him as God! English football doesnt have a player good as Ozil…
man has a back problem for months now but nobody gives a damn.
what a load of crap, as if Arsen Wenger would play an unfit player, more to the point why does Ozil play Knowing what a liability he will be to the team. Just get rid PLEASE ANYONE!
Neither of them will lead Arsenal to the promised land but if you can free up wages of circa £450m per week it gives our new Manager the opportunity to acquire new players in the areas where we are weakest namely in Goal,Centre Back, DM and Left Back.
What a bloody silly question, Ozil acts and plays like a mercenary, Jack Wilshire acts and plays like the local lad he is, and understands the importance of the club to the supporters. Anything Ozil can do Jack can do Just as well. When Jackloses the ball he never stands’ still with his hands by his side and looks skywards, he puts in a shift and chases back.
Most Importantly, when Ozil is in the team you are often playing with 10 men, you just cannot do that in the premiership and hope to survive.
We lose more games with Jack bcos he slows down our counter attack as he tends to run with the ball all the time. He is not a pacing player
Spot on mate, the reason why we fans have been ignoring the fact that he has a medical issue affecting him for so long now baffles me.
It seems we don’t care if he’s on one leg, we just want him to play and want him to be a striker, Midfielder,Defensive midfielder and defender at the same time.
Give the man some break, Wenger has been playing him against medical advice even though he benches him in some games.
Now the dude is en route to recovery just to meet up for the world cup.
I’m still waiting for the sect of fans who’ll start tearing into Mavro the moment he starts making mistakes seeing he made one yesterday
Maks this is a reply to ur comment
I remember the day we got Ozil (same day as Fellaini going to United) I was absolutely buzzing!! And my former boss said that United had got the better deal ?????
I would like Wilshere to stay
Jack is injury prone
Ramsey a player that needs to be kept?
He’s the playing equivalent of Brendan Rogers, far too enamoured with himself.
Too many flicks and tricks that don’t come off, and takes 10 years turning in circles before thinking about making a pass (why do you think our players have stopped making runs off the ball? He simply slows any attack down to snail’s pace by which time the opposition have had time to have had a cup of tea and organise their defence.
He’s got a year left and seems to believe his own press so wants to either move somewhere else or get a huge wage.
Perhaps there are clubs who could play to his strengths and would pay good money.
I’d take it.
Whose future is the more(not “MOST”, as we pedants always notice)important? That presupposes that at least one is important and I am not quite sure that either are that vital to keep. Ozil , having re-signed is now a valuable commodity to sell, whereas Jack is worth nothing unless he does sign and only of questionable importance even if he does. Stats, which I am the first to slightly mistrust , indicate that OZIL is far more productive than Wilshere and I think that way too. Jack’s stats for assists and goals, even long term, are pathetic for someone of his ability. On balance I would prefer both sold BUT only if we are able to get a sizeable fee. Both may be somewhat unlikely , given Ozils ridiculous wage and Jacks self overrated demands. I suspect, though, that both will be still here next season.
BTW, the pedant remark is not directed against the article writer who correctly used “more.” Just to be clear!
We can’t sell Jack, if he does go, it’s on a free.
I can’t see Ozil going anywhere, who is going to pay a reasonable fee for him, and pay his ludicrous salary.
If Wilshere does want to stay, he’s playing a dangerous game holding out to see who the new manager is, he may come in and not want Wilshere and ask that the contract on offer is withdrawn.
Ive said this before many times. Ozil and Mkhitaryan don’t like to defend. Ozil is very LAZY. He needs Top quality in front of him and behind him to get the best out of him. He needs players to get the ball to him as he won’t get the ball himself.
We are good in front of him (Aubameyang, Lacazette) but behind him we need to sign a top defensive midfielder and a top player of Cazorla, Rosicky or Viera quality.
Wilshere, Ramsey, Xhaka and Eleny are not good enough if we want to challenge for the Title and to get the best out of Ozil. They are good as squad players
Exactly.
Ozil’s problems are tied in with the lack of defensive capability we have in midfield. We need stronger defensive players in midfield, who can protect the defense and who can win the ball back high up on the opponents half, give it to Ozil, who then can make a killer pass like no one else. With players like Ramsey, Iwobi and unfortunately also youngsters like Nelson, we just don’t have the players, who can win the ball and get the best out of Ozil. To make it worse, Ramsey wants the ball all the time and simply takes too much focus.
Hopefully, a new manager can create that balance.
Agree AndersS, Ozil’s future like the rest of the Arsenal squad, is in the hands of the new manager. Hopefully he can bring Ozil some tough love, bring in a replacement for Cazola and DM and strengthen/coach defense to bring out his best.
It will be interesting to see how Ozil performs if chosen for Germany in the World Cup. I can’t see an ex Real Madrid player going to Barcelona.
Ozil is inconsistent. Even in big games he doesn’t create chances. The fact he needs a world class XI around him to be effective is embarrasing. I have no problem with him not defending much, but he picks and chooses which games he tries in. And apparently which games he even wants to participate in.
We should exchange Ozil for Ousmane Dembele, but as Dembele is 20, we would have to add some 40 – 50 mill.
In the long run, though, Dembele will still have huge resale potential in 3 years time when he’s 23, and his salary is 130.000 per week less than Ozil’s so not too bad financially in the long run.
Personally I think ozil should be sold, I wouldn’t be surprised if he went China.he did have ability but I don’t think the prem suits him
Both of them need to be leaving. Why is the club signing Wilshere on their own when Jack has not even met with the new manager yet? New guy will probably not even want him. As for Ozil, his mega contract keeps him here until it runs out. He doesn’t care about football so even if he’s benched he’ll be happy to lounge about and make money. The exact type of culture that needs to be ended. Club is making big mistake with these contracts.
they did that probably atleast to recoup half of what was spent on him – otherwise he was free after this season
Won’t the incoming new manager be making the decisions?
Ok, yes we as supporters have our opinions but it’s all a bit pointless and I’m sure no one will be coming in or going out unless the new man says so.
#MAGA, exactly.
I read somewhere that Wenger is asking the incoming manager to respect the values of the club and what has been achieved here…
My concern is how on earth will Arsene want to create problems for the incoming coach and why did he chooses to torment the fans by avoiding the hard way the only way to bring the best out of the boys than pamper them to rots. I’m struggling to understand why Iwobi still gets selected for the match day with all the nonchalant attitude he puts up every now and then.
Wenger is just one game away from the club Arsenal and i hope I’m not an Alice.
Dont worry mate will be Sven mind running the show Wenger reached a point where for him “wrong was right” despite fans protest wanna him out he didnt give a dem! but very power weapon we have from now going foward if we are not happy and things do improve “do not attend home games” that will take care the problem
I’m actually tired of you guys whining about our players… I mean each and every player.. wait you will say who questions Auba and Mickhi…just give some time..when the other new signings come, they will start bitching about them.. I just don’t understand how you guys feel that everyone who plays for Arsenal are not capable of playing for them and those who are playing in Ligue 1 and Bundesliga are the World’s best players and that are capable of rejuvinating Arsenal. The problem is not with the players, the problem is the way we play, we don’t defend properly, we have to find a balance between attack and defence..that is our issue..
