Even though it is club football that really pays the wages of the players and with some real glory on offer in the shape of domestic cups, leagues and the Europa and Champions League competitions, it is fair to say that the biggest trophy in football is the World Cup.
It is the most watched sporting tournament across the globe and provides the biggest stage, which is why every single player on the planet wants to be involved. With the next one taking place in Russia next summer, thoughts will inevitably turn towards it and that could have a knock on effect with players in the transfer market.
According to Metro, it could be a negative effect for Arsenal and the transfer plans of Arsene Wenger, at least where his pursuit of Thomas Lemar from Monaco is concerned. The talented young winger is said to be keen to work with Wenger and after reportedly having an opening bid turned down the Gunners are said to be ready to go back and try again.
Lemar’s father, however, has apparently warned the player that his World Cup hopes in the France side may suffer if he comes to Arsenal this summer and that may just prove more difficult an obstacle to get over than the transfer fee.

If he continues playing the way he played last season, wherever he plays, arsenal or Monaco he will make the World Cup squad, his father should encourage him, if he wants him to reach his full potential..

I think Giroud, Ox, Debuchy, Walcott, Lucas and Gibbs will all be especially worried about lack of playing time effecting the World Cup aspirations.
I see regular starters to be Cech, Mustafi, Koscielny, Bellerin, Sead/Nacho, Cazorla/Xhaka, Coquelin, Ozil, Alexis and Mahrez & Lacazette (assuming we get them)
Also Wilshere’s place will be in doubt if Cazorla, Xhaka, Ramsey, Coquelin, Ox are all healthy and performing well. Unless he is loaned out again.
But we need to play whoever deserves to play and whomever is playing the best.

Giroud directly in competition with Lacazette if he comes could mean he needs to keep Lacazette on the bench (which won’t happen) for Giroud to get on World Cup squad.
But even for World Cup, Walcott won’t leave his high paying salary. LOL
I don’t think another club would pay more or even that amount.

Lemar is a good player but if we can’t sign him we should get Mahrez.It’s a shame really how people think about him.I’ve watched Neymar a lot and I can say that he’s as lazy as Mahrez yet the fans would want him to come.You know why?Because he’ll do what he’s paid for.I remember 13/14 when the lazy Theo Walcott was doing so well until his injury.Many fans were praising him a lot and wanted him to sign a new contract which in so doing ignored his laziness.You know why?Because he was doing what he had been paid for.Fans didn’t want Ozil to leave last season upon his laziness.You know why?Because he did what he was paid for.This shows that players are usually criticized for this when they are not playing to their strengths or not at their best.
