It looks like Suarez is the ‘something special’ Arsenal need – The only arrival?

So there is obviously no smoke without fire, and the Arsenal manager Unai Emery has confirmed that the Gunners are in talks about Denis Suarez coming to the Emirates, but he obviously refused to tell us the content of these discussions (as if we didn’t know lol!).

He said in today’s press conference when asked about any transfer dealings in January: “This transfer window is not easy to take players that can help us with better performances than the players we have now. The club is working and I spoke with Sven, with Raul about different possibilities with players. They are working but it is not easy to take players that can help us with big performances now.

“I think it is more one transfer for something special you need that can help us. We are looking, the club is working with the possibility to loan players and if we can take for helping us in a different position on the team, then maybe we can.”

So that indicates that he is only expecting one arrival, and then it was no surprise he was asked about the Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez. This was Emery’s reply: “They are conversations between us privately. I don’t want to say to you this private conversation with the club.”

Well we all know that Wenger would never ever mention any talks with any player unless it was as good as a done deal. So if Emery is carrying on that tradition, I can safely deduce that Suarez will be coming to Arsenal, but he will be the only arrival in this window…

Did anyone mention we needed a defender?

  1. Is suarez a center back? NO. Is he a winger? NO. He is an ATTACKING MIDFIELDER who can sometimes play on the wings. Is this club not tired of buying players that aren’t priorities, we should be prioritising defenders and wingers because that’s what we truly need at this moment especially when you realise we have to manage funds due to our owner. We have so many attacking midfielders in the club already but we lack wide players and proper defenders.

    1. Yes, as if Arsenal want to continue Wenger’s preference in small creative midfileders

Each manager has his own preferred types of players:
      – Mourinho: Tall players, such as Pogba, Lukaku, Fellaini, Matic, McTominay, Martial, Bailly, Smalling, Jones, etc
      – Klopp and Guardiola: Speedy players, such as Sane, Mane, Sterling, Salah, Chamberlain, De Bruyne, etc
      – Emery: Industrious midfielders, such as Torreira, Xhaka, Guendouzi, Ramsey, Banega, Rabiot, Verratti, etc

    2. A CB should be the priority, but we do need an attacking midfielder as well (although I’d prefer an out-and-out winger). Ramsey is going in July, or even in the next 2 weeks, Ozil is clearly not wanted, so he could go now or in the summer, Iwobi is very inconsistent, and Miki is a flop and ageing.

But yes, I will be shocked if we don’t get defensive reinforcements this month.

      1. I will be shocked if we DO get defensive reinforcements this month. Have you forgotten the low life Scrooge who owns us? I haven’t!

        1. Jon, please recognise that Arsenal have net spent more than Liverpool and Chelsea over the past 5 seasons, if Silent Stan was blocking us somehow as you insinuate then how have Arsenal spent so much over the past 5 years?

Do you not think it is silly to bypass the CEO who failed year after year and jump straight to an owner who doesn’t do our books, who owns multiple teams so he isn’t spending time on how much team A can spend… He hires people to do that and some of them are good while others are poor.

You said you will be shocked if we signed def reinforcements…
Like you would be shocked if Arsenal spent over £50 million on a player in Jan?
How about shocked after seeing Arsenal break their own record less than a year later signing another WC CF for a record fee?

Would you be as shocked as those times?

How about admitting that Arsenal can spend if they have the cash, poor management from Gazidis has left us with little funds, it wasn’t Silent Stan blocking us from spending that meant we have no/very little funds to spend.

Easier to not think about that though huh? Easier to jump on the Silent Stan hate bandwagon than consider the truth? The truth is we have net spent more than teams above us and that undermines the whole Silent Stan not letting us spend lie.

    3. @Lupe I beg to differ with you on this one.Unlike the diffence where we actually need to sell or retire the current players before we buy new ones, our creative part needs immediate fixing. We sold Wilshire, we’ve sold Ramsey and Ozil chooses when to play or have a backache. Tell me who is Arsenals attacking midfielder who can create chances for our strikers?

      1. Cliff, I agree. Suarez is fast, creative and is quite happy and competent to play wide.
It should be noted that Arsenal now has all the defenders, except Holding, back from injury. Hopefully they can stay fit to the end of the season and give Emery the opportunity to play a stable undisrupted defense. I am looking forward to see how Mavropanos performs.
At the end of the season, Koscielny and Lichtsteiner will probably be leaving, freeing up wages for upgraded CB and FB.
I will be interested to see how Emery rates Chambers and Bielik as DM’s to assist Torreira. Bielik to me is a good prospect, who was only 17 when he came to Arsenal. Unfortunately his development has been dirupted by injury on loan.

        1. 100%Spot on @Ozziegunner.Giving chance to Chambers and Bielik alongside Torreira may turn out positively. Both are better at defending than Xhaka and they surely will do better.I even rate AMN higher in this position than Xhaka, its only that the manager has not tried it out.

    1. What exactly are we swapping when Ramsey has already signed a pre contract already?? With the announcement to be made in February.. Do you think Arsenal has any right to demand any player from Juventus now? definitely not, this is why the likes of Paul Mersin and co keeps slamming the Ramsey deal. Arsenal is good at messing stuffs up.

regarding Suarez, well welcome to the team bro if you sign, be ready to play Attack, Midfielder, defender and goalkeeper, be ready to run around the field like Kante does and you better make sure to score or assist else you’ll be termed as a failure, that’s the fanbase you’re gon have if you sign for us

      1. Hahaha

Suarez doesn’t have Kante’s double-lung stamina but he is definitely better at controlling/ protecting the ball than Ozil. Saw him when I followed Enrique’s Barcelona and he was better than Andre Gomes

My only concern is he is very rusty due to the lack of game time at Barcelona for several seasons and Emery’s plan in using him as a winger

        1. He doesn’t look too physical either, except his legs, he has similar leg muscle that Jack used to have. I don’t know how I noticed, I swear, I don’t usually check mens legs out ..lol

  2. Of cus he is, I know he’s a good player bro, I’m just saying, you know Arsenal fans are ticking time bombs, if he signs even though what we need is a winger, I’m only waiting to see how many games he’ll play before someone term him as useless or lazy, or call him names..
if you haven’t noticed, it’s a thing with all our midfielders except Torreira, they all have names,
    Ozil- Lazy, and useless
    Xhaka – Flop and poor
Guendouzi – Headless and new master of sideways passing.
    Iwobi- Average and poor
Ramsey? Lmao.. I can’t stop laughing,
so Suarez shouldn’t expect special treatment though

    1. “Ozil- Lazy, and useless” Yeah, I guess apart from the fact that he often has the most distance covered in the matches he plays and also produces the most assists/chances created in the whole of Europe. But, sure, apart from those two he is just a useless and lazy player.

“Guendouzi – Headless and new master of sideways passing.” 19 years old and has only had half a season in the most competitive league on the planet, yet you’ve already decided he is no good.

“Ramsey? Lmao.. I can’t stop laughing,” Yeah, I guess that’s why one of the top 3 times in the entire world are going to be paying him £300,000 a week.

What a brilliant fanbase we have. You guys should be so proud for such shining displays of support.

      1. Glad you see what a lovely fanbase we are,, and yea Guendouzi though 19 and matured.. I’ve read people call him different names after games and call for him to be dropped…
Ramsey? If you know the names he’s been called you’ll understand why I laughed and didn’t even bother to type names people call him.. So cheers bro this is our fanbase, Suarez will join the fold soon

      2. lol, ozil produces the most assists in Europe???? Over what period of time? he’s done next to nothing the past few seasons. He has only one assist this season. No top 6 club takes Ozil seriously, he’s a joke.

        1. Man United- Bench
          Chelsea- Bench
          Spurs-Bench
          City- Youth squad
          Liverpool- Youth squad
          Arsenal- Bench

Mesut Ozil everybody, best playmaker in Europe.

    2. Think you spend too much time listening to any Tom, Dick and ‘@Afc’ on forums mate.. the world is bigger than Justarsenal u know ??

      1. Antz I don’t listen to or watch that crap, I’ve never done that.. some stuffs are not worth it… and no Just arsenal ain’t the only forum out there I hope you know I know so and I follow Arsenal closely

        1. I beg to differ – Just Arsenal Is the only Arsenal forum, all those other guys are just the pretenders, imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Though I don’t feel flattered by Tott, I feel nothing for them, besides Hate!

  3. @ Eddie
Would you dare to pick our starting eleven and captain tomorrow please lots of players are fit so should be interesting. What formation will we play. What kind of a midfield set up are we looking at.
Will Emery give our stars a chance to shine or will it be same old same old change on the 45.

    1. Jah Son my name is Eddie not Emery, let it be the usual 45 mins crap or not I don’t care.. I already mentioned in one the previous post that I’m not excited about tomorrow game or looking forward to it. I don’t care who gets on the pitch and who doesn’t, I just know whoever gets on the pitch tomorrow, if we lose, then they should be ready for name calling, If we win, some of them should be ready for name calling

      1. That wasn’t his point Eddie.

        Something like this is…..
We have who we have, we need to pick who we think is best. That would be more productive, us backing the players because they deserve it over others within the team. Confidence issues and all come into it, if most fans thought like you Eddie, none of them would be brave enough to even ask for the ball. Change is still coming, and it wasn’t that long ago that we looked a good shout for a CL scrap, come into the last stretch. If we can get our confidence back up, and try to put that festive season behind us, we could still get back to how we were not so long ago, it’s just a really bad patch right now, but fans should not try to make it any worse, to the contrary. I’m more worried about Manu, beating them to a place, they look to be improving all round, this game is massive!!!! I believe we can pull back the difference on Chelsea, they had a similar lead over us early on, and we pulled it back, even went ahead at one stage. Come on you Arsenal!!!!!

        1. BOT then I’m glad all fans ain’t like me then?.. you do know we’ve gone through this phase of wowing everybody then going back to shït, circle 360° then come back wowing everybody again right? that’s what it seems like we are doing now, we are going through the shït now, but everyone will be wowed again…
ive seen this movie too well to get excited about it, even if it’s produced by another manager in Emery

          1. OOPS! DOUBLE POST ABOVE.
B-o-t, I agree with your sentiments and those of Jah-son.
As bad as it is, I’m sure Eddie, jon fox, Ken1945, I and others on this site have seen more dire seasons than the current one.
We have to stay together (“Concordia”) and support the Arsenal through thick and thin.

  4. “So there is obviously no smoke without fire” In this case, perhaps, but what about the 99.99% of transfer rumours which are clearly pulled straight from the arsehole of the journalist sitting in the pub just to generate clicks? A yet all of you guys on here believe them without a second thought, and then even go as far as bashing Arsenal for either targeting said player or for missing out on them. It really is laughable.

    1. Not all of us on here believe everything they read.

This site has a wide range of opinions from Arsenal supporters. Your opinion which is clearly wrong, my opinion which is right most the time (sarcasm joke) and then we get people like Jon and Ken who again, have their own opinions. To claim they are all gullible and believe everything they read is a lie.

      Laughable really.

Only 1 letter in your name? I can tell. You call yourself D cause your too dumb to spell.

    2. @D
It is a bit – dammed if you do – dammed if you don’t. It was like that allot under Wenger, the CL places, and the cups, dammed if you do and dammed if you don’t do. Fans, I wonder if there’s anything that we all ever agreed on, besides fav club or an obvious question that has only one answer. Is there anyone in here who didn’t believe that Cazorla was our most talented player at the club during his time. Is there anyone who believes that Sanogo got a fair wage for someone of his experience and with his qualities. There might be a few, but I wouldn’t be surprised – if the odd apple still finds its way off the cart.

  5. @ Eddie
Hiding behind your conscience now talking about you don’t care! O Eddie we are all suffering inside the manager makes me so nervous not even pundits can predict Emery.

    1. Jah Son I honestly don’t care about our lwago games anymore.. that’s just it, I’ve said so on this forum since last month..Its obvious there’s no change in the team and our top four hopes seems over.. I lost interest in our league games because
      1: we ain’t fighting for the league…
well so it leads to number 2.

2: We are interested because even if we don’t fight for the league, we are fighting for top four… and now top four is looking dead over, needs a miracle.

So what’s there to fight for in league games?

And oh I do care about the team and club, I just don’t care what happens tomorrow, I said it before, if we win then cool..if we lose, still cool..
I’m only looking forward to our FA cup chase and Europa League chase..
Lol, nobody has ever been able to predict Emery since he came, nobody knows what formation we’ll use tomorrow or players..
Stop bring nervous bro? you’ll be fine, just lower expectations during league games and you’ll be fine

  6. CORRECT ME IF AM WRONG
I think Emery will give Ozil some gametime tomorrow not because he wants to play him or because Ozil is working harder blah blah blah blah
We now face Chelsea, United and City in quick succession hence if Emery sideline Ozil and lose to Chelsea he would not be able to throw him in the United game the backlash would be too much. So look to see him throw Ozil out there tomorrow to help him take the blame if we lose.
What is happening at my sweet Arsenal.

    1. “So look to see him throw Ozil out there tomorrow to help him take the blame if we lose.”
Damn bro!! that some deep theory??? ..
well you and I both know our team, fans and coach then..
If Ozil plays and we lose any of those games, it’s definitely Ozil’s fault?? I can bet a thousand buck on that

  7. Arsenal has a problem at the back, so lets bring a player at the middle park….
    PARADOX………………

    1. You guys don’t have the money to buy any player. Do you think you can get a good defender without spending any money. They are looking for loan options.

      1. i don’t know why this needs to keep being stated either. The January market for defenders right now is essentially non-existant as well. How many defenders have been in the rumors for any major club lately? Next to none. Who is going to sell a top defender in the middle of the season? VVD was an anomaly and a record signing for a CB. Blame whoever you want but loans are all we can look forward to at the moment and a loanee CB is hardly going to fix our problems if one is even available. Waiting until the summer for real opportunities is far more realistic.

        1. WHERE DID THE MONEY GO? it’s a valid question, why can we only get loans? other clubs next door are dropping millions for summer deals, and selling a player they bought for a record fee because the manager doesn’t rate him, i would love for someone to explain that to me?

Ps: FFP so don’t tell me Ibra is pumping money in like he did back in the days, but why is the model of every other top 6 club better than ours, they can all sell non starters for millions, they are buying better youth than us etc… why is our buying and selling of players so weak and hasn’t improved, top 4 is the priority no, so why aren’t we backing the manager other clubs are? would love to understand that with the scouting team that has been set-up? or are they just decoration? where is the cash we are a rich club with our fan base stadium sponsors and tv rights? where did that money go?

    1. I never heard Wenger put the pressure back on the owner and board by stating Arsenal had no money for transfers. Wenger always claimed there was no one suitable available in the market.

  8. I laughed at “did anyone mention we needed a defender”! But , had they instead said “we need 6-8 defenders” as they ought to have done, I WOULD HAVE APPLAUDED.

  9. lol y’all get so nervous & panicky coz our manager said” no money for permanent January transfers”.suddenly arsenal is broke? come on guys no one’s said arsenal won’t buy anyone in the summer. I know being a fan requires so much passion & emotions but we need to apply a bit of pragmatism & objectives. WE ARE REBUILDING!!!! therefore there’ll be a very big shift from the norms & we’ll require patience and sacrifice.
Arsenal let go of wenger, gazidis, wilshere, sanchez and many more to follow, all these translates to us welcoming a new dawn. The Emery era which could see us also letting go of ozil elneny e. t. c. however we will find brilliant additions such as Torreira Auba Lacazette mavropanos e. t. c. I have a strong feeling we’ll be bringing in up to 4 players come summer and ofcourse they won’t be 100 million signings but they’ll be players in the mould of torreira.players who’ll give their all for a win and yet deliver brilliant performances steadily.aint you all tired of the Fluctating(most times underwhelming) performances of your beloved “super stars” like Ramsey n ozil? why shouldn’t we have goal scoring creative midfielders like ericsen, debruyne, Silva and the likes? as for me my expectations are well reigned in to believe we winning at trophy this season, with these players will be an Emery masterstroke.i’ll however enjoy every moment my darling club offers for now I’ll begin to worry after next season when there’s no improvement from the team.

    1. Sorry to say that you sound like a beaten up wife, constantly bashed by her scum husband, but who still ADORES HIM. I, of course, don’t say stop supporting but please do get some perspective of how appallingly this club is being owned. Owned, mind, not managed. Love Emery, cannot abide Kroenke!

      1. It’s also not easy to rebuild when your team shows no ambition, manager needs to be backed now not in the summer, as in the summer we won’t be able to change our league position which would be a Europa league one at this rate!

      2. “He is the same (as Ozil),” Emery replied when asked why Torreira has been relegated to a bit-part player in recent weeks.

        Love Emery?
All us fans know how good Torreira is and how much we have missed him and how our def suffers without him.. Not Emery though. Emery thinks he is like Ozil. We all know Emery wants Ozil out… Does he want Torreira out because he isn’t Nzonzi? Who Emery did want…

        But hey.. Love Emery right?
Not going to question him at all… not like you hounded Wenger.

        EmeryOut

    2. Except Emery keeps subbing off Laca for God knows why, continues starting Xhaka despite repeated gaffes 6 months later, and still has not remotely fixed our leaky and awful defense.

Oh, and forget the Ericsen, Debruyne, and Silva type players; think more along the lines of Banega, Suarez, and cheap temporary fixes. Seriously doubt Scrooge Kronke is going to spend more money, when all the freed up salary is more money and increased valuation for the club. Expect more along the lines of austerity, self serving, I mean self sustaining, and speeches about how we can’t compete with salary offers from bigger clubs.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I’ll believe Stan Scrooge when he backs up his big talk about ambition with money and top additions.

      1. Please do not ignore how Arsenal have net spent more than Chelsea and Liverpool.
If we had a CEO who knew what he was doing for the last decade then how much we spent over the last 5 years could have been utilised better for better results for Arsenal.

Please people, I feel like I am banging my head against a wall, I want Arsenal to win and to be back in glory as well. I can see Arsenal spending record fee after record fee in a short time and then reading how people saying Silent Stan will not let Arsenal spend… Really? Really???

Arsenal spent on Laca, they then spend on Auba less than a year later… Arsenal can not spend?

Arsenal have been spending and people are saying Silent Stan will not lett Arsenal spend.

If this Silent Stan issue was right then how are we third on net spend over the last 5 years!!!!!!!

Do people not want to face reality?
Easy to bash what everyone else is bashing and feel like part of the crowd?
        What about the truth??

“Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I’ll believe Stan Scrooge when he backs up his big talk about ambition with money and top additions.”

I know he hasn’t put his own funds into Arsenal… but we are third highest EPL club on net expenditure over the past 5 years. Only teams we are behind is City who is owned and pumped cash into.. the other is UTD, who was bought by greedy businessmen who bought UTD using UTDs own income!

If only we had a CEO who could have maximised the business for the last decade, we would have more income than we do now and as we have seen, Arsenal are allowed to spend what they make. If we made more we could spend more.

  10. Kind of lost here. What makes this Suarez so highly valued, claimed to be much better than Ozil and, the regular sub, Ramsey ? Is it about his scoring ability, chance creating, or dribbling skills, which I don’t know the use if he is not good at scoring or creating chances ? I guess it’s about dribbling or ball keeping as I’ve checked in Wiki, and this guy is terrible at scoring. Since joining Barca in 2016 he has played a total of 46 la liga games, including 2 as a sub this season, and only scored 3. Come on, lazy Ozil only needed 10 games to score 3 this season at the age of 30, compared to this energetic 25 year old creative midfielder, and we know that scoring is never Ozil’s strong point. So if this guy is not even better in ozil’s weak point, than in which area do you think he is better than Ozil. Headless chicken? I think that’s the case in Barca. 2016-17 26 games/1 goal, 2017-18 18/2, 2018-19 2/0.

  11. Wait till the end of the season to see where the team is. 5th, 6th, what about FA cup and Europa league…Give another season if necessary. Then you would know whether Emery is better than Wenger or not. Apart from 3 Europa league trophies with Sevilla, he more or less the same as Wenger, led his team to 3-5/6 positions in La liga. Champions league spots with Valencia but regular 5th with Sevilla. Nothing special with PSG as we know with the squad they have, it would be an embarrassment not to win the league. But in Champions league?
They were actually behind Arsenal in the group stage in 2016. So I don’t quite agree that it’s not his fault that the team is dropping to 5, possibly 6 at the end of the season, it’s because of the players instead. The club hire a coach and generally will let him buy 4-5 new players, not a completely a new team. He got Leno, Sokratis, Torreira, and Guenduozy. So basically defensive players, and well… The coach has to combine his style with the suitable tactics for the squad he already has. We talk about styles of play, not the players. Some coaches who act as a caretaker could help the team to go back on track, and they actually deal with the same squad. The latest case is of course Solksjaer. MU have better players? Why they had poor games under Mourinho then? So, a good coach will know how to make his players help him reach the target given by the club owner when hire him.
