Come On Arsenal! – beat Chelsea and win us another trophy

So we are closing in at last on our first competitive game of the season, and obviously if Arsenal can beat the reigning Champions Chelsea in the Community Shield it can give us great confidence going into the new season. I know a lot of fans don’t count the Community Shield as a real trophy but in other countries it is called ‘The Super Cup’ and is given much more prominence.

Arsenal beat Chelsea in our last appearance at Wembley in the FA Cup Final (I guess that’s not a real trophy either according to some ‘fans’) and if we can do it again I for one will be very very happy! Arsene Wenger also thinks this is a very important game. “For us it is just a good opportunity to repeat the performance from the FA Cup final,” the Boss said. “The two teams will certainly go for the first trophy of the season with power and a desire as well to be ready for the championship, so that plays a part in it as well.

“I would say that Chelsea look like they have kept the basis of 95 per cent of their squad. They have added Bakayoko who is a very strong player, strong ball-winner, similar to Matic, maybe less distant runner but more of an impact player – but certainly they will fight for the championship again.

“They have replaced Costa with Morata. Morata is maybe less of a goalscorer than Costa, but he can score and provide as well.

“Against us in Asia, Batshuayi played very well. He is a young striker who is promising as well, so I expect them to fight again for the championship.”

I am certain neither side will be happy to lose this game, so it will be a very hard fought contest with some brilliant players on the pitch. I am expecting to watch an attacking skilful display of football to get everyone in the mood for the start of the League campaign, and I am also expecting Arsenal to win us another trophy!

  1. Hope Kolsanic and Lacazette start.

This match is more about PL/London rivalry Pride than the trophy, To be honest

Also would be nice to go into the Leicester match after beating Chelsea

The Leicester match is of greater importance obviously. Want a good start this season

  2. ..nothing more than an opportunity for our young guns to get experience of the clamour of the wembley crowd. the caveat here, if arsenal eventually win is for complacency to distract us and put us in the wrong frame of mind for the games against liecester and stoke which have far more significance..

*a game for players to go onto the pitch – be composed and just have some fun.

  3. If Wenger has paid attention to how Chelsea has replaced some of their players with hungrier Bakayoko, Morata and Batshuayi (he is not new, but this is going to be his chance to stand out), he will definitely strengthen Arsenal soon. He will get more new players to keep up with his competitors, since this season could be his last chance to please the supporters.

Community Shield is a good test and Arsenal doesn’t have to win it if they want to mislead their competitors with deception strategy. I hope they dare to bench underperforming players like Ozil this time, and use players that are willing to take more risks, like Iwobi and Chamberlain.

  4. This just in:
    > Arsenal still interested (6 weeks later) in Lemar . . .
    > Arsenal keeping an eye on Seri
    > Arsenal not thinking about Riyad begging to play for the Arsenal
    > Arsenal not budging on price for deadwood
    > Arsenal says Sanchez not going anywhere

    This just in:
    Window closed

  5. Playing Chelsea is about game management just like we did against man City last season beating them 2 nil, less possession but we get the result which is what’s all about, for me their is six teams who could win the premier league this season and I’m counting us to be in the mix only if the player’s communicate on the field something I’ve noticed arsene doesn’t really encourage and that’s why wenger has not signed Vieira type player for ages

    1. It’s about wenger learning how to make excuses when he looses and a reminder of how crap we are

  6. Something about the Neymar signing nearly past me without realizing it. Barcelona were trying to raid PSG in the first place, aiming to prize away (arguably) the worlds best CM player. Now there’s links between PSG and Seri, I don’t know how much truth or even if they’ll lose Verratti, but if they are/were genuinely looking at Seri to replace Verratti. Then maybe the fans in here could have an inkling of what they’re talking about, and not just jumping on the newest shiniest name bandwagon. Verratti has decided to stay with PSG, so it seems, you have to hand it to them, that was one heck of a way of dealing with Barcelona’s advances ..they wont try that again in a hurry! But reports are still talking about Seri to PSG, again not sure how much truth, and Verratti still might want to try Catalonia. Personally Seri seemed a little too much attack minded for me, but that was just my instinct, but obviously if anyone over there knows how good Seri is, PSG’s recruitment team will be one of them.

  7. Surely we don’t want this cursed trophy? ?? I don’t think that any club who has won the charity shield has ever gone on to win the premier league in the same season. Go and look it up! ??

  8. Win or lose doesnt really matter. Lets see whos ready for the season opener, the league is the target with a good run in Europa League with fringe players to get game time in…. if we get to quarters then start throwing in the big guns AKA Alexis, Lacazette etc….

    Target 1 – League title
Target 2 – Top 4 (if league is out of reach)
Target 3 – Europa League Semis at least
Target 4 – Fa Cup & League cup Wins

    Team for League, 3-4-2-1;
    Cech
    Boss
    Mustafi
    Kolasnic
    Ox
    Xhaka
    Ramsey
    Monreal
    Ozil
    Alexis
    Lacazette

    Subs;
    Ospina
    Bellerin
    Holding
    Gabriel
    Coquelin
    Wilshere
    Welbz
    Cazorla
    Giroud
    Iwobi
    Walcott

Still not a good enough team imo. Ramsey needs outed by a new CDM, we wont see much of Santi, Wilshere there as no news yet of him leaving & Gabriel not good enough tbh for us.

  9. Why the hell is lemar still playing for Monaco ??
He is getting fouled time & again! Hopes he makes it to London in one single piece..

  10. Looking forward to this match, which Wenger will be taking more seriously, should be interesting. Perhaps will have a better look at our signings.

  11. I’d trade a Community Shield win for 3 Premier League points this season.

It’s going to be a very tough league this year.

  12. Who is the team in paper you feel will be strongest this year? For me so far it’s MU and MC.
They’ve both made some incredible signings, have got them in early enough to start integrating, have good managers,(even though I despise mou) and MU have had a very good pre season.
Matic is a huge signing for MU proper dm player oh how we could have used him!

  13. Can’t you talk good things abut your team roster than other teams , Neville already dud that Arsenal won’win league or make it for top four while we haven’t play a single match stil our own fans agreeing with the pl . I have negstve fans , let’s support the boys last season fans contributed to the team ‘s bad performance
Let’s behind the boys and give them support rather than destroying
