Is Payet exactly what Arsenal need? Can Jenkinson help?

This could turn out to be a very happy coincidence indeed for Arsenal, assuming that Arsene Wenger really is a big admirer of the West Ham and France international star, as Dimitri Payet himself suggested this week. In fact he said in a Sky Sports report that despite not actually being contacted by the Prof he had heard that Wenger considered him to be the missing part of the puzzle for the Gunners.

With West Ham a shadow of the side they were last season, I get the impression that the French forward is regretting his decision to sign a new long term contract in February and it seems pretty obvious that he would like to play for Arsenal.

Payet said, “I read that Wenger considers me the missing piece of the Arsenal’s game, but he’s never told me that!

“We conceded five or six at home against them. When you see them playing, as a technical player, you could only have fun in that team. They’re candidates for the title every year.

“The situation at the club affects me, but I’m an ambitious person. I’m in a fight with my club and I’m giving everything for them, to get out of this difficult situation, but I’m not closing the door to anything.

“I miss the Champions League… I’ve got some great years ahead of me and I want to enjoy them by playing in important competitions.

“If I’m forced to leave West Ham, it will be done according to the rules – the club will have its share of the cake.

“My coach understands that today’s situation does not suit me. I will ask the questions at the right time.”

His current club and manager will, of course be very keen to keep him and are saying that there is no way that he will be leaving in January, but we know that does not necessarily mean that they will succeed. There will be clubs ready to offer big money for such a brilliant and Premier League proven player but another piece of Arsenal transfer news doing the rounds at the moment may just hand us a crucial advantage.

While the Hammers are keen to keep the players they already have they are on the lookout for more and one of those they are after is the Arsenal right back Carl Jenkinson. The young defender has lost his confidence at Arsenal and |I am sure Wenger would happily send him out on loan but according to Squawka.com there are two other EPL clubs keen.

This hands Wenger a good hand to play in any transfer negotiations, so despite his poor form this season, could Jenkinson help Arsenal to secure this top transfer target and possibly even the title?
