Just how important is this summers transfer window for Arsenal?

On the face of it, you would say that this summers transfer window is probably one of the most crucial in the recent history of Arsenal but is that really true?

I remember seeing the meltdown from Tottenham fans on Twitter every time they lost a game blaming the failure to sign any players in two transfer windows, it was like they were facing relegation the way they were acting.

But Spurs not signing any new players forced them to use their youngsters more often like Harry Winks and if I am not mistaken he is now an England international and obviously their fans changed their tune once they made it to the Champions League final.

So it got me thinking, would it be such a bad thing if we did not actually buy anyone this summer, now, hear me out before you start screaming at me.

When you have a mediocre budget you end up signing mediocre players so why not save the £45 Million and add it on to the next transfer budget in January or even next summer.

Of course, sell the deadwood and add that to the budget and bring the kids through, we have some bloody good young talent.

OK, it may have a knock-on effect, we may not qualify for the champions league or win any trophies and may even end up in 7th or 8th but at the end of it, we would be far better off for the future.

We would have a huge transfer kitty built up over a year or so, we would have got rid of the useless players and we would have brought through some excellent youngsters.

It does mean sacrificing a year I accept but the way we are going now is just plodding along and better to take the hits now and build a solid foundation for the future.

I know, crazy, right? but still worth a thought I reckon.

  1. Firstly from the last post pre tax losses BS the club has a sole owner he doesn’t have to announce anything. Yet coincidentally we are making a loss haha.
Does anyone think kronkie would still be involved if he was making a loss. And yes other teams have made a loss however this I simple don’t believe. It’s just so you accept the poultry £45m crap

And this transfer window is only important if you want to win

  2. I don’t think our recent graduates are as good as Kane, Winks, Rose and Trippier, but let’s try them out. We can see their determination in pre-season

New players are still needed to uplift the fans’ spirit. If there is no new player, I highly doubt the stadium would be full

    1. They wouldn’t have known if they were not tried. And most of they shining youngsters in world football today are not exceptionally gifted but their secrets has been their hunger for success and despiration to prove something to the world. So I say, put faith in them you’ll be surprised what they can offer.

    2. We cannot sell the deadwood nobody wants them. But I agree with you play the youngsters blood them in it will only be one season and who knows they may surprise you coyg

  3. I can see us having a poor summer but not to the extent where we wouldn’t sign anyone and remember Tottenham had a very solid and BALANCED squad even though they didn’t sign a single player, something we clearly lack.

This coming season scares the hell out of me though, players like Mustafi, Xhaka and Ozil are saying they are not leaving the club even though we have to sell them to improve. How do we get these comfortable players out of the club when they have massively underperformed? Ospina, Elneny, Jenkinson, Chambers, Kolasinac and Mkhi are all not good enough too so there is so much to change at this club if we ever want to move forward but knowing Arsenal, it will take years to correct while we add more problems to the existing ones.

Honestly, my expectations for the new season are as low as i can remember, i feel so sad just looking at out squad and how limited and unbalanced it is. Hopefully, we get lucky that all the other teams are sh*t again so we can snick into the fourth spot, that’s my only hope.

  4. Well, that will be a huge sacrifice though but a very good one. Because I do believe very well in our youngsters, Nelson, Smith-Rowe, Saka, Willock, Holding, Mavropanos.

This is one of the plan from the board that is why Freddie Ljungberg has been promoted to the first team to work with Emery this will help intergrate the youngsters.

But the best solution is to make 2 – 3 new signings that will blend in also with the youngsters.

  5. Now I just can’t wait for July to come by. Our transfer market will commence next month when Edu takes over as our technical director and brings in his signings.
So finally we will have 2 of our great ex players working with the club again with Edu as technical director and Ljungberg as part of the first team coach

    1. I still can’t understand why Arsenal has apparently ignored the availabilty of Dennis Bergkamp, given his achievements as a player at Arsenal and coach/mentor at Ajax Amsterdam?
Maybe his legend status and his well known distain for mediocrity has intimidated the Board?

  6. If we only brought in Anderson or saliba and zilyic from ajax I would get on board with the theory of using the youngsters for a year.
I agree with the authors principal. In normal life if you want a BMW but can only afford a kia why not wait till next year.

  7. This window it’s really important to rebuild the defence. I can remember EL final clearly, how the hell fkin Kovacic could dribble like that?? Like walking through piles of cotton buds ?
We also rarely keeps a clean sheet. At least our strikers still performs and Ozil could help against lesser quality opponents.
Also money is not a problem, we could promote youngsters like Ajax and Monaco.

  8. In practical terms Martin what you suggest may well happen if we are unable to move on a number of our mediocre performers. It may well be impossible to sell the likes of Mustafi,Mik,Kolasinac etc in which case we will be obliged to unload our more saleable assets such as Torreria and Xhaka if Emery is intent on bringing in a quality centre back and left back which he regards as our top priorities. He could for example use Chambers and Beilik in DM and utilise AMN and Iwobi as box to box midfielders until such time as cash is available from the eventual sale of our poor performers. As fans we would have to accept a season where we are unlikely to set the heather on fire but at least we would find out if our younger players are up to the task in the PL.

  9. I would say we have enough players to do this,

    Out –

Cech Ospina Lichsteiner Jenkinson Mustafi, Koscielny Monreal Elneny Ramsey Suarez Ozil Mkhitaryan Asano Welbeck Macey Pleguzuelo, Bramall Gilmour (giving us a healthy transfer budget for next season, or January if needed)

    1st team (23 players)

    Keep – (in a 433)
    1.Leno
    2.Bellerin 6.Holding 5.Sokratis(c 3.Kolasinac
    7.Maitland-Niles 4.Torreira 8.Xhaka(vc)
    10.Aubameyang 9.Lacazette 11.iwobi

    Back up (433)
    13.Martinez
    20.Osei-tutu 12.Mavropanos 21.Bielik 22.Thompson
    16.Chambers 17.Willock 14.Guendozi
    18.Smith-Rowe 19.Nketiah 15.Nelson
    3rd keeper 23.Iliev

    U23 back up
    31.Okonkwo
    32.Omole 25.Ballard 26.Medley
    33.Bola
    27.Olayinka 24.Sheaf 28.Coyle
    34.Ameachi 29.John-Jules 30.Saka
