Keep calm and don’t worry folks – The Arsenal Board has a positive plan

The Arsenal chairman Sir Chips Keswick said: “We are fully aware of the attention currently focused on the club and understand the debate. We respect that fans are entitled to their different individual opinions but we will always run this great football club with its best long-term interests at heart.

“Arsène has a contract until the end of the season. Any decisions will be made by us mutually and communicated at the right time in the right way.

Chips summarises quite succinctly how this will pan out. Thank goodness we have a board of people that run our club with their heads and not their hearts. Come the end of the season a scenario that the majority want, including myself, will come to fruition.

I posted an article asking for Arsenal fans to show Wenger a little respect for 10 weeks more but several felt that was overly generous. 10 weeks of restraint for 20 years is clearly an overly generous consideration…

Its fascinating that our clubs fans are diverse on multiple levels. We are all passionate about our club but we are not necessarily playing on the same intellectual pitch….

I’m intrigued by the amount of contributors who are keen to share their opinions challenging an articulate article yet are unable to present a detailed plan moving forward beyond “lets get the best manager, give him a bottomless pit of money and everything will be fine”……

Is it at all possible you’ve forgotten who the manager David Dein brought in was way back when? That bloke nobody had ever heard of……you know, the one that has won more FA cups than any other manager….

I have loved Arsenal for 46 years so resent comments about my dedication to the club. I was watching Terry Mancini et al when some of you were barely an optimistic thought of a leg over in your dad’s mind.

In 1998 I stood on the pitch at Wembley next to an artist I managed as he sang the national anthem and we won the double against Newcastle…….I’m an Arsenal fan.

I don’t denigrate any opinions you have but am asking you to show Chip and the board respect. They have a plan that will affect our club in a positive way moving forward. The banner-waving rebels are merely fleas in an incredibly large shoe..Banner wavers look more like Runway Three activists more than coherent objectors..

  1. In general I agree.
The board members are of course intelligent people, who most of the time will make the right decisions. And I am also confident that, there is actually a mutual interest in achieving success, as I don’t see why making money from the club should limit the board members to aim for anything less, than the very top. But it must of course be done on an economically sustainable platform.
However, there is a risk the board members may be too far away to ne totally aware of how bad the situation is, so I don’t agree, that fans shouldn’t protest for a new manager and a clear plan for sporting success.

  2. It is exactly the board I don’t trust. At least with Wenger I know he is believeing in what he says, be it truth or delusion. This board promised us (after riping us of with huge ticket prices) that we will compete with Bayern ffs. Three years later and we can’t compete with Leicester and Watford, let alone Liverpool and Chelsea. I am not going to bring Bayern, Madrid or Barcelona in the discussion because it isn’t even funny.
So, dear board, fsck you very much. People tend to turn against Wenger because he’s the most public figure and to an extent they are right. Manager MUST be responsible for the results. 5 years after the restriction are gone and we are utter $ hit.
And dear board, who the fsck allowed Ox, Wilshere to run their contracts until now without even an offer. Let alone Sanchez and Ozil? So you see, I don’t trust you a bit. At least Wenger delivered two FA cups in the last 5 years. What did you do to deserve our trust?

  3. If Wenger does leave, then you should be thanking the “fleas” for protesting, and letting Wenger and the board know how we feel. Do you even realise that Wenger has had a contract on the table for months? Clearly the board want him to stay…fact! We know Wenger wants to stay…fact! So if no one complains about the results, then Wenger would have no reason to leave. Business as usual! Then the fans that wanted him gone, but without complaining, protesting, letting Wenger know how we feel, will have screwed themselves, and everyone else.

So who are the real “fleas”? Fans that have had enough of being taken for a ride, and are making themselves heard, or fans that have quite literally been spitting on protesters, because they feel Wenger should never be criticized.

One area I do agree on with the writer is that we’re not all playing on the same intellectual pitch. Fans who keep faith in Wenger, and demand he be respected, have lost touch in reality sadly. Wenger has become a religion for a lot fans, which blinds them from truth, and we all know the deal with religion…it doesn’t allow for harmony, only bigotry!

  4. I was speaking to someone earlier about the Wenger situation. He’s a neutral but said straight off ..Wenger’s finished!!!. He was saying how it’s a pity with the way he’s looked at now, and how it’s not nice to see for anyone. He said it would be best if he just came out and said this will be his last season with Arsenal, that way all Arsenal fans could then give him a great send off. The atmosphere would rise dramatically and then Wenger would get the love he deserves. I’m thinking that would be great, to see everyone remembering and celebrating rather than the nastiness it’s become.

  5. We need a younger manager with different ideas, who is positive about buying and selling players.once he identified a player ,he should paid for the asking price, stop this beginning bargaining,we lost mata, hazard, konte, costa and others.we could have sign ibranovich, but Wenger found to be a challenge to his position,he prefers to yes yes man.
Look at Walcott, getting paid a flat salary for walking atound the pitch,he is the laziest player. Now he is saying, the players must back Wenger ,so he can continue to pay the big salary.Wenger is too sentimental to get rid of old woods, once we get a new manager,he will need to clean the place

  6. He won’t renew his contract I can see it in his eyes, he’s a tired ageing man now and this time I think it’s hurt him and got under his skin.
Just hope behind closed doors we have candidates lined up and dates booked for interviews.

    1. The same man who said he wants to take us to the next level. Haha i think if he was leaving he could hve already said it based on how disjointed the fans are. Coz if he did all fans will be backing the team and singing one wenger till end of season. But the guy is still coy and i dont think he jas any best intrest of the club at all. The proove is clear to see. 2014 we just needed a few players to compete but now we need a complete overhaul. I hope the protests we keep at themcoz if wenger stays for another year i will now watch any football coz i exactly know how it will pan out.

  7. Haha guys are so funny. Fans protesting wenger out how in any way is that disrespectful? The fans pay the most expensive tickets in the world!!! Infact wenger has been disrespectful to the fans telling them to be like spuds fan!! Furthermore look at his interviews and see what he says about fans. Am shocked pple still support him. I agree with a comment made here pple hve turned emirates into a shrine and wenger has become there god. The most deluded thing is just sitting and keeping quite and thinking the board and wenger will do the right thing. Ill say it again we fans hve lost drive and hve adopted a loser mentality into our club. This is the arsenal.

    1. could not agree more khan. as a collective, we have an inferiority complex. We don’t believe the club can do better or that we should aspire to be on equal footing with the other top teams. Just read our wage bill is higher than Chelsea’s, yet we should give Wenger more time? This cycle will continue as long as the collective fan base believe we owe Wenger more chances.

      1. Exactly ,its even shocking that we hve a higher wage bill par chelseas. Consider they hve willian, hazard, costa, fabregas, this all players are superior than our crop of players. We just hve sanchez and ozil as wc players. Just shows how we are overpaying average players. This is also wengers biggest mistake he doesn’t see the fault of players he trusts(theo,ramsey,e.t.c)

  8. @Neil – Where do I find this succinct plan? Or was it his reference to making the decision mutually? That would not be much of a plan.

I have posted on here many time that I hope Wenger will receive a graceful exit and is not driven out of town with tar and feathers. Having said that, I and many of my fellow fans gave Wenger more than the 10 weeks you asked for. We gave him ten years. At any major club he would have been out of a job 10 years ago, as it should be. You earn 8 million a year, there is only so much pity you deserve and there is only so much time you should get to be successful. Just because he should have been sacked 10 years ago would not have meant his life was over. Even as a manager he could have moved on like most top managers do.

What gave him the right to preside over 10 failing years? Surely not his pay check?

  9. I fear that we will end up having to carry him out because he wont go peacable. Still there should be enough of us fleas to do the job. Wenger declared that despite the Bayern slip, overall the club is in good shape. Also he has worked hard for 20 years to please the fans. We’re ungrateful bastards aren’t we, all of us. Conteh, apparently will have his wages raised next season to 6mill. And how about our new ambassador, laughing boy Per. He will be doing the warm up sessions for each press conference. Now I understand why he has a new contract. Oh me of little faith! I never thought that I would say or even feel the things I do about Wenger, but Sir, please go before things get worse.
