Lacazette keen on emulating Henry – Could he really?

Alexandre Lacazette joined Arsenal last summer and started in spectacular fashion., although Wenger kept taking him of after an hour which may have dented his confidence a little. He then had a bad run, but we found out afterwards he was carrying an injury which could have contributed, but when he finally returned he started scoring at will again despite competition from the newly arrived Aubameyang.

But now he is keen to start scoring for fun and wants to be the new Thierry Henry. “Anelka and Wiltord were a bit before my time – I was very young when they were playing their best football,” he told Arsenal.com

“As for Henry, I was always a fan of his so, of course, I followed his career closely.

“He was a huge role model for me. To achieve what he did at this club was exceptional. I would like to write my own chapter here. I would love to make the fans as happy as Thierry did.”

Mesut Ozil had high hopes when Lacazette arrived and had heard about his prolific form in France. He said: “He’s a very good striker who has scored many goals in Ligue 1, not just this season but in previous seasons too. We’re really happy to have such a class striker here with us.

“From what I’ve heard, he’s meant to be very good, always hungry for goals and ice-cold when he gets into a scoring position. My friends who follow the French league know him well and have told me that I’ll definitely have fun with him on the pitch.

“I hope that he’ll be able to take us further with his goals. I’m sure he’s happy to be here and to be able to play with us, and we’re pleased to be able to assist him and help him to score as many goals as possible.”

I am desperate to see Emery start both Lacazette and Aubameyang regularly against the lesser teams, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Laca scores more goals! Would you?

  1. Aubameyang’s style, pace and height resemble Henry’s more than Lacazette’s

But Lacazette seems to be better on the ball, which could make him work better behind Aubameyang

Arsenal are lucky to have two sharp goal poachers, but one of them has to be the provider. Or only one can play while the other one vying for the same spot

  2. Lacazette really annoyed me when he gave the ball away against chelsea with an awful backpass that led to the winning goal.

  3. i would like to see lacazette play as the number 10..he is very good on the ball and works hard unlike lazy ozil.

    LENO

    LICHSTEINER(C)…SOKRATIS..MUSTAFI…MONREAL

    TORREIRA..GUENDEOUZI

    IWOBI ……………LACAZETTE………MKHITARYAN

    AUBAMEYANG

This team is a hardworking team capable of working their socks off and win games.
also the team contains no lazy flops like xhaka and ozil.

        1. I chose the exact same line up in the Football London website, was asking us to create our own side for the next match. The exact same one except I put Mkhitaryan as the number ten with Iwobi and Aubameyang as outside forwards.

  4. So far this season the best defence and central midfield clearly looks to be:

    Leno / Cech
    Lichsteiner – Sokratis – Mustafi – Monreal
    Torreira – Guendouzi

But the best front four are yet to be established, so Lacazette has every chance of making himself an automatic starter and scoring lots of goals, especially if he is able to adapt to playing behind a main striker (Aubameyang) either centrally or on the wing, as well as being the main striker himself.

  5. Don’t be surprised if west ham turn us over on Sat the team look a complete shambles fear the worse!!

      1. Dan are you really trying to support our club?
Your always negative whatever the discussion and topic.
Your saying we are a shambles ….why?
Have you watched West Ham this season?
        Fill you with confidence?

        1. ken1945, it’s going to be a long season, if we keep having to read Dan’s negativity. I don’t know why he posts here?

        2. Ken, I see no way that Dan (if that is even his real name, which I doubt) is our fan at all. He writes like a troll but claims to support us. I don’t personally believe he is a Gooner but a troll posing as a Gooner. I suggest you and all on here ignore him. Trolls need a reaction, so don’t give him what he craves. Trolls are losers in life and often have deep seated sexual problems, as is well known if you read up on them. They are to be pitied but ignored.

    1. Hardly a shambles pal . And Will definitely get better imagine someone came along and told you you now had to engage your brain before you spoke …..well then you’d be f*#÷$%

    2. we will trash west ham….together with cardiff, newcastle and everton….

4 easy game on paper and 16 points

we should be able to do well from now

  6. Depends if he’s allowed to play. Wenger didn’t fancy him at all, and not looking good under Emery so far either. I don’t know why, because he’s a quality striker.

  7. Since our defence worries me I want us to play 3-3-1-3….and drop the players that are not needed right now

    LENO

    MUSTAFI SOKRATIS MAVRAPANOS

    BELLERIN TORRIERA MONREAL

    GUENDOUZI

    MIKHITARTAN LACAZETTE AUBAMEYANG

ballerin can play better as a wingback with less defensive responsibilities………with 7 players behind them all acting as a defensive force…mhkitaryan, lacazette and aubameyang can focus on attacking freely….. Ozil and Ramsey are free to come in second half….. It is a more disciplined first eleven with everyone enjoying their duties……emery has to try this out…..it would give us so much balance……i didn’t drop ballerin for lichstenier because I feel bellerin will be better with this formation

    1. Lichtsteiner must start over ellerin in any current Arsenal line up and be captain. Bellerin should be on the bench watching and learning.

      1. I just don’t understand any sane fan who would prefer Bellerin to Lichtsteiner. Chiza is such an one. He amazes me!

  8. barryglik, how on performance, experience, honours won, tactical awareness, toughness in the tackle and leadership, could you select Bellerin over Lichtsteiner? Maybe on the modeling catwalk, but not for a football game in the EPL.

    1. @ozziegunner.
      just 2 seasons ago.
      2015/2016.
      Leicester 1 Arsenal 2 Spurs 3 City 4 Man Utd 5
      Sotn 6 W/Ham 7 Liverpool 8 Stoke 9 Chelsea 10.
      Our best X1 was.
Cech Bellerin (outstanding) Koz Mertz Monreal
Coquelin Cazorla Ramsey Ozil Sanchez Giroud.
      Subs: Ospina Chambers Gabriel Gibbs.
      Flamini Arteta Walcott Rosicky
      Elneny Wilshere Ox Iwobi Wellbeck
On loan Martinez. Jenkinson Debuchy Szczeney Sanogo Gnabry
Some how the wheels fell off the next 2 seasons.
20 of these names are gone.
Xhaka replaced Coquelin!!! Cazorla was not replaced and the team foundered.
      Everyone suffered including Bellerin
Only 4 out of 28 in 2016 remain as regular starters.
      Cech Bellerin Monreal Ozil.
Bellerin is our one young survivor of the chaos that
has been Arsenal these past 2 seasons the others are 30+.
      Give him some credit please

      1. Barry I agree that the loss of Santi Cazorla has been a major loss which has not been rectified; however Arsenal must select the team on current form. You agree that Bellerin’s performances have deteriorated over the last 2 seasons for whatever reasons. Therefore he needs to spend some time on the bench watching, training and learning from a seasoned pro in the form of Lichtsteiner.
Hopefully he can regain his confidence in the cup competitions, but Bellerin should not be in Arsenal’s starting 11 in the EPL on current form.

    2. Ozzie, Total agreement, EXCEPT about the modelling. Bellerin is as ugly as sin with awful hair. My wife says he is the most ugly among all the Arsenal players she knows. I disagree though, as I remember Ian Dowie and Di Maria is still playing, though I struggle to think of ANY Arsenal players more ugly. . Poor sods. Still they all have money but in Bellerins case, THAT is all he has, apart from an undeserved self regard.

  9. Well bellerin is not that bad, we played with man to man marking and willian dragged him with him it was mikhi fault not to track run of alonso. While in first match Ozil was there in front of bellerin.

    1. There was no need for Bellerin to chase him back into central midfield like that, it was a stupid thing to do and he didn’t even look to see if Mkhit had his man. Mkhit didn’t have him, he had a run on Mkhit whilst ahead of him to top it off and there was no immediate danger if Bellerin had just stayed in position. Typical from Bellerin, when he should be getting in peoples faces he stands off and allows them to find the next guy. Guy has his back turned and is heading away from our area Bellerin gets sucked out of position. Bellerin should know which is more dangerous, leaving Mkhit at right back without giving him the shout – or allow a man in midfield with no pressure on him (Bellerin still didn’t press him properly because he turned and was allowed time to pick the one pass out that Bellerin should’ve been weary of) We play more man marking these days, but your defensive line doesn’t man mark unless they are trying to work your area. Bellerin was a fool following a man out that far. He should have agitated for Mkhitaryan to go and press him.
