Lacazette to decide future after internationals – Could Arsenal be an “interesting option”?

Since news of Real Madrid’s enormous bid for Kylian Mbappe was revealed, it would have appeared that Arsenal’s chances of signing the Monaco star were diminishing rapidly (although I have told you why I disagree with that) and it is being reported that the Gunners have now turned their attention to another French striker in Alexandre Lacazette who is being touted at a price of £50m, half the price of Mbappe.

He is currently with the French national team along with Mbappe and our very own Olivier Giroud, who is still considered to be the first option for Didier Deschamps at the moment, despite the hype surrounding his two younger countrymen.

It was originally thought that Lacazette would be sure to join Atletico Madrid, until their transfer ban was upheld, and that seems very unlikely now. The Frenchman was asked about that deal yesterday, and he replied: “Like everyone else, I heard the news. This was always going to be a possibility, it was 50-50. The decision has not perturbed me, life goes on.”

“It is possible, it is a scenario that should not be excluded,” he claimed. “A loan to Lyon until the winter window? I have not looked at that much because the President is saying that that is not possible. We will have to prepare ourselves for all eventualities, but that is not the way I want it to go.”

So his future is still up in the air for now, and Lacazette is adamant that anything is still possible, even a move to England. “That could be an interesting option, it is a great league with interesting teams.

“For the moment, those are only rumours.

“I will wait until the end of the international stint with France before taking my decision.”

Hopefully by the end of the week, after France have played Sweden on Friday in a top-of-the-table clash, more will be known about the Mbappe situation and we will know if we should be moving on to a bid for Lacazette or not….

  1. He would be welcome here if he came
    He has proven himself overseas
Also, realistically we aren’t going to get Mbappe, Greizmann, Lewandowski, Lukaku, Aubemeyang, Rodriguez, etx
Lacazette is a more realistic option among the over £50 million world players

Now its up to Wenger to either do an Alexis type transfer or a Higuain/Suarez type cockup. God knows

  2. Lacazette is probably Wengers plan B or C lol
Latest reports from France claim that Arsenal have jumped ahead of Real Madrid with a bid of 140 million euros for Mbappe, awaiting response from Monaco.

      1. Is anyone worth that? Pogba cost Utd €100m and he was only average last season, if we’d had bought him most of us would be saying what a waste of money he was, it’s hard to know who should be bought, Holding only cost £2m and looks excellent, so does the price tag accurately represent the ability??

      2. Time will tell, he might go on to be the best CF to have graced the EPL or he could flop under the pressure.

It is positive tough that Wenger is really keen on him and reports suggest Wenger is ready to offer him a key role to persuade him then I would say yes, Alexis must want to see this ambition and could get him to sign a short contract extension, keeping Alexis and getting MBappe would be worth the figure quoted IMO.

If hr flops… well he flops. At least we didn’t get cold feet and we will have shown the world that we will compete for players if they are good enough and wanted.

        1. Well if he flops that’s probably the last time that we compete for a player in his transfer bracket 🙂 but ur right – we have to take the risk and hope for the best

    1. Well at least we’re trying to get the player by bidding more than the other clubs, rather than by bidding less.

It’s a step in the right direction!

      1. exactly, if he flops then of course people will come out and say we should have gotten “insert CF name here” but it shows that the staff at Arsenal are improving at getting signings.

Sead is done, that was fast… no last min deal.
Last year we went and got Xhaka pretty fast but then the other signings dragged on :/
If we can get this deal resolved fast then that is a 2nd quick signing and the window hasn’t opened yet XD

Good to see an improvement, even if we do not win the EPL, at least we are showing ambition now in the transfer market, that mentality hopefully will spread through the players to help create a self fulfilling prophecy.

    2. I can understand the merits of this bid only if Arsene is seriously committed to selling the following players.

      Schez.. $15M
      Theo… $15M
      Perez… $13M
      Ospina…. $5M
      Jenkinson…$5M
      Debuchy…$2M
      Campbell…$5M

Buy Seri, Oneyrku and Gaya for that deadwood chunk of change and Arsenal would have the most celebrated and transcendent summer transfer window in the clubs history.

  3. Meanwhile… Over in Spain, Barcelona are set to offer Arsenal a choice of three players in a bid to prize Bellerin away from the club.
The three players in question are said to be Rafinha, Denis Suarez and Arda Turan.

?? Give us the other Suarez and we’ll chuck in Ramsey, Jack Wheelchair and Walcott for good measure.?

    1. I thought so too, the other Suarez and I’ll gladly add Walcott, ozil, mertesacker, debuchy, ospina, Jenkins e.t.c, never Ramsey or Wilshere or schzesny, they are the arsenal

  4. I remember seeing Lacazette in the europa league semi final 2nd leg against Besiktas and whilst he has good movement, physically, i think he’s ill-equipped for the premier league. Furthermore, he doesn’t seem to have remarkable dribbling skills like the the other diminutive forwards in the league. And, finishing isn’t even pristine.
