Latest rumours – Should Arsenal sell Ramsey in January or let him leave for free?

All the transfer rumours about Aaron Ramsey today are linking the Arsenal midfielder with a move to one of the big Italian clubs, and as foreign clubs have the advantage of getting a pre-contract signed in January while English clubs will have to wait until the summer.

According to Calciomercarto it is AC Milan that have the advantage due to the Gazidis connection. They reported: Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey is reportedly set to leave the club when his contract expires next summer, after not being able to agree terms on a new deal with the North London club. Ramsey is a wanted target of a number of big clubs, including Chelsea, Liverpool, Lazio and Inter Milan; but AC Milan may hold the advantage.

New Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis has connections to Ramsey from his Arsenal days and therefore is reported, by Il Corriere dello Sport, that contact with Ramsey’s agent has already been made and the two parties are working on a deal.

According to the Daily Mail, they think that Juventus are also in the running, and with the fact that they are Champions and have Wojciech Szczesny already there, maybe they should be favourites. “Juventus have entered the chase to sign Aaron Ramsey.” they report.

“The Arsenal midfield star is also wanted by Liverpool and Chelsea when he becomes a free agent at the end of the season.

“But Juventus hold a significant advantage over their rivals. Because the Wales international will be available on a free transfer, they can agree a pre-contract with lucrative terms in January.”

Up in Liverpool, they believe that Jurgen Klopp is going to head off the Italian contingent and tempt Arsenal with an offer in January. “Liverpool’s interest in Aaron Ramsey is very real.” they said in EmpireOfTheKop.

“This has been confirmed by James Olley in the Standard, who has his ear to the ground when it comes to developments at Arsenal.

“The journalist states that due to the Welshman’s contract expiring at the end of this season, Liverpool will see if Arsenal are willing to sell him cheap in January, as they’ll get nothing if they wait until summer 2019 and he departs on a Bosman.”

So if you were in charge at Arsenal, would you sell him to a rival in January to salvage some cash from a deal, or keep him until the summer in the hope he moves to Italy?

  1. Sell him to Liverpool? No, Liverpool needs a creative midfielder to complete that team and though Ramsey is average at its best, Klopp has the tendency to turn him into a beast… I’ll rather he goes to Juventus and go finish his career. I don’t care about the money we’ll be losing if he goes for free, we’re also getting Niles for free, Smith Rowe though still young, will also be integrated into the team because Emery likes him also.
Unlike Sanchez, Selling Ramsey to an English club like Chelsea or Liverpool will backfire

    1. Agree. Ramsey is a talented footballer, has a lot of energy in the field and he is passionate about his career, which could hurt Arsenal if he plays for the opponents

He has to be shipped to other league in january

      1. Energy without a purpose very inconsistent player in my opinion and Ozil should go next summer and I am very happy we have Sanllehi in place we are not gonna be Barcelona but we will be something close

    2. I think he’d suit Liv’s system. I could see him playing slightly ahead of the other two midfielders and joining that strike force, he’s also a good presser of the ball and I think he’d score and assist often enough over there. He’s probably at an age now that if he gets the game time he will produce in the final third. He’s allot more confident these days, than back five or so seasons ago.

  2. Sell him to the highest bidder regardless. See how Sanchez has performed so far for Man U and he’s not getting any younger to suggest that he may improve. Same applies to Ramsey. Let him go if he doesn’t want to stick around for £180k. Despicable. Someone we all stuck by when he had his leg broken. What loyalty these days? I’m sick of these idiots trying to hold the club to ransom and in the process distrupting the unity, equilibrium and coherence of the team. Sod Ramsey!

    1. Where did you read it that he was holding the club to ransom? ? According to Ornstein Arsenal withdrew the contract negotiations even though Ramsey wants to stay

      1. My understanding is that the club offered him a huge increase and he refused to sign , hoping for an even bigger increase. As such, he WAS trying , though he failed , to hold the club to ransom, so Darlingbudsof Arse is correct in his view. Sell him in Jan to whoever wants to pay the best fee; he will hardly improve any of our English rivals. The reverse actually ! Then forget this greedy, self obsessd player, who never achieved the standard that he clearly personally believed he did. Then forget him and move on. He was merely another in and out player , good sometimes, mostly not and often injured too. Not worth the wage he wanted, so tough! You don’t build title winning teams with his type.

        1. I heard they offered him a four season package deal, not sure what number they settled on, but they came to an agreement. Arsenal and Ramsey’s agent sent out a good news tweet. It was supposedly in the process of being written up, but Arsenal had a last minute change of heart so took the offer back. Honestly, this is a strange one. If it was just a case of Ramsey asking for too much, then why put anything on the table and why tweet good news about it.

          1. Agree Kenny and Arsenal shouldn’t risk their asset being damaged. Based on his injury record, Aaron Ramsey is always one game away from the treatment room, so he should be put in cotton wool until sold to the highest bidder. He gambled and he lost.

    2. He got his leg broken playing for arsenal……not another club, if the coach feels he needs him then the club should meet his demands,,,,,after all its the same demands other clubs are willing to offer him

  3. Dalingbuds is exactly right. Sell him to whoever offers most. He wouldn’t get in the Liverpool team anyway

  4. Bench him now and sell asap.
If we can money for him, great, or maybe an exchange with Man U for Bailly could be a win-win?

    1. Would love to see Bailly play for Arsenal

He could be a beast of a CB if playing under Emery’s guidance

    2. Sell him yes but exchange for another José mismanaged player? please no!!! Let’s find and develop our own defensive player out EPL. Bailly is a good player but he hasn’t lived up to the reputation he came to EPL with. If that is all to him or José i don’t know but any defender that isn’t getting to his team is not good for our. I will gladly take any of his attackers bar Sanchez.

  5. I would have sold him this summer. I think we should have a policy that no player should be allowed to enter his last year on his contract. Sign an extension/new contract or leave.

As it stands I think we should sell him in January if we can get anything for him with only half a season of football left at that time.

I am still stunned that this Sanchez like situation has been allowed to repeat itself. It reeks of poor management. Having said that I am happy we didn’t give him a silly money contract like we did for Ozil.

    1. I’d do the same. Ozil should’ve been sold, along with Alexis for a higher fee. No players should ever get into the last season on their contract, they sign or they go. Welbeck too, three of them should be sold because making it so, so that they reach end of contract …its basically positioning themselves so they can blackmail the club. Metaphorical blackmail.

  6. Ideally i would sell Ramsay and Ozil to free up funds for top quality defenders to take us to the next level.

  7. Sell him over lose him for free.
1st choice though would be to try and get a swap done, Liverfools and Chavski are not the only clubs to have a reported interest in Ramsey, UTD and City have shown interest at different times.

Why do we have to sit back and wait for bad stuff to happen? Why can we not take action to make the best out of this situation? Rambo contract issue is getting multiple clubs interested in him, although he may go for ‘cheap’, we can still get a little war going between the clubs who want him.

  8. This guy Ramsey thinks he’s a top quality player, let him go and give us space to sign a winger or another midfielder who’ll work hard like Banenga did for Emery before. I don’t have a problem with him going to Liverpool, he’ll just warm up their bench..they have a lot of midfielders currently, if Xhakiri is struggling for game time. LET HIM GO

  9. Although certainly not a favorite (of mine) provided he found consistency as he did season 2015 and provided he produces more goals as he did against fulham then id be happy to change my mind about ramsey – my reasoning is that if manager pep bid successfully for him to cover for david silva in their central midfield and subsequently he found the form he’s capable of then (i) we’d have kicked ourselves in the foot AND (ii) we could find ourselves in serious trouble if he were to line up with man citeh. He’s 5 yrs younger than d silver…[pause for thoughts]

is it inconceivable that they may put in a bid for ramsey? and then where would we be? Sooner that matter is resolved the better as far as i’m concerned.

    1. And you think Man City will want to disrupt PHIL FODEN development by signing him? And not to mention Gundogan, and even B. Silva (who has played in there this season)

      1. let’s hope not but what i do know is pep often takes an interest in arsenal players – there’s no guarantee inter milan, chelski or l’pool (solely) are interested in him – why not the champions? just because you or i don’t rate him – it doesn’t mean others view him as we do…

  10. What an opportune time this is for AMN.Soon to be back from injury and coming into a side that is slowly gaining confidence and momentum. Why would we play Ramsey when this young lad is available?
Bench that Welshman for a talent who will only improve with game time.Ramsey will never improve whereas AMN certainly will

  11. I can’t see him going anywhere in January, why would he when he can hang on until the summer and sign for whoever wants him, and get a whopping great sign on fee.

    1. Exactly stubill, that’s what I always said he intended to do. This has been his plan for the last 18 months – 2 years

  12. You all forget that Ramsey has to agree to personal terms with whichever club we want to sell him too, if he doesn’t want to go to that club – he doesn’t have to go. Especially as his deal runs out in the summer. Not all the power lies with the club in this situation. We could very much lose him on a free, so as we all like to make assumptions and demands about where he should go, it’s unrealistic as he can wait 6 months, discuss whoever he wants to play for and leave for free.

    1. I am pretty sure Liverpool, Manchester utd and Chelsea if he wants to stay in London will be interested in January whatever we re coup should be able to help get good replacement

  13. Look at his goals against CSK and Galatasaray and of course against Fulham, which he started, pushed on and finished. Important Cup Final winning goals too. Ramsey is 27 and reaching his peak. Would be a mistake to lose him, so I hope both sides see sense and come to a deal. I agree he can lose the ball and leave us up shit creek sometimes, but he is more effective than both Xhaka and Ozil who also lose the ball so easily.

    1. Martial is yet another overrated player. His goals /games ratio is poor , esp for the fee United paid. Not rubbish; just not good ENOUGH.
