Latest update on Mohamed Elneny and his Arsenal future

Arsenal might have to look for space in their team for Mohamed Elneny or send the player off to a new buyer in the summer after the Gunners priced Besiktas out of a permanent move for him.

Elneny has spent this season on-loan at Besiktas after Unai Emery decided that the Egyptian wasn’t good enough for his team.

The midfielder seems to have revived his career in the Turkish topflight, with his performances making him a crowd favourite.

The loan agreement that took him to Turkey included the option for Besiktas to sign him, however, the Turkish side has had well-publicised financial problem.

They have struggled to pay Elneny (Turkish Football) and some of his teammates and this even forced Liverpool loanee, Loris Karius, to cancel his loan deal with them and return to England (Goal).

Turkish Football is reporting that Besiktas would love to keep Elneny beyond this season, however, the Turkish side cannot meet Arsenal asking price to sign him permanently.

It claims that Arsenal has set an €18m fee for the Turks if they want to make the move permanent.

Elneny has never really been considered good enough for Arsenal. He has always been a squad player at the Emirates even under Arsene Wenger and it is unclear if Mikel Arteta will give him another chance next season.

  1. Considering we payed, reportedly, between £4-£7 million and he is said to be surplus to requirements, asking a reported 18 million euros, seems another fantastic mess up by our buying and selling department… even without taking the corona virus situation in to consideration

    1. They can bargain if besiskta is really interested in him, let’s not conclude so soon, besiskta are yet to table an offer, no matter how huge a buy out clause is, no one will blame the buyer for putting forward a lesser amount, besides, the clause was innitially signed by them which means they agreed to the price, and probably the reported prices could be false.
However, if besiskta is really interested, they can pay in installments

    1. Nonsense, poor though Xhaka is, even my cat is better than useless Elneny. They just need to get him gone, away from our club where he should NEVER have been in the first place, but for Wenger. He won’t fetch anywhere near the reported 18 mill andI do not believe Arenal seriously expect that sort of sum for him. Perhaps the rag and bone man will give us fourpence for him and then consider himself rooked, even at THAT price!

I sometimes think that Wenger himself must have been a rag and bone man, at least when it came to collecting dud CB’s over the years, as rag and bone men collect rubbish.

  2. To be fair to Elneny, he always gave 100% for Arsenal but was at best ordinary. If we hope to sell him, the asking price will need to come down to around 10million euros max.

  3. I just fell bad for him, because he has not really been given the chance like Xhaka, and I liked that pair of Xhaka – Elneny.
