Laurent Koscielny returning at the perfect time for Arsenal

We are very used to seeing Arsenal defenders in the treatment room, but the injury to Rob Holding at Man United was sure to give us even more limited options with Koscielny, Mavropanos and Monreal also in the injury list. But now Unai Emery has announced that our captain Koscielny is now ready to rejoin the first team squad after a couple of outings for the reserves, and if he quickly gets back to his best it will be real boost for the team.

Koss the Boss hasn’t played for us since the Europa League semi-final last season, but Emery is very confident he is now ready. The Spaniard said on Arsenal.com: “We are on a gradual way with him,”

“He’s played two matches with the under-23s. He played 85 minutes on Tuesday and our plan is that he can maybe be with us in the 18 on Saturday.

“Maybe he can play against Qarabag in the Europa League. He’s working with us with very big performances every day in training. He’s playing for the under-23s with a good feeling. The next step is for him to be with us.

“He gives us experience, quality, personality,” Emery added. “We need every player and we need also for him to train with us. The next step is playing. He can play with us and be with us normally.”

This is just perfect timing as, although Holding is still being assessed, the consensus is that the youngster could be on the sidelines for quite some time. In fact we may even start keeping a few more clean sheets with Koscielny leading from the back….

  1. Koss , Mistaki & Socratis in a back 3 with Hector & Kolasnoc wingbacks?

Good timing to come back is right after Holding out for the season for the Boss. Maybe go with 2 at the back when Monreal returns? When is he back?

We’re doing well long may it continue… Huddersfield on Saturday is a big 3 points as Chelsea v City this weekend, I’m sure Chelsea don’t want to lose this one after a few shaky performances & we are right behind them & Spurs.

      1. A part of me quitely still believes Arsenal can challenge for the title this season so i’ll rather a draw btwn chelsea n City …. or chelsea win by one goal and then arsenal trash huddersfield by 6goals to move above chelsea.

    1. I hope that is a sincere comment. Arsenal haven’t had many rocks in recent years but Koscielny was one of them. Bossielny remember!? he didn’t get that nick name by accident. Bayern Munich were sniffing around for him for a while too. At one point he could have got into just about any teams starting line up. Great servant for the club, I really hope he has another couple of seasons in him

      1. Agree with both sentiments regarding Kos.
His head was never turned, despite the attentions of such as Bayern.
If Unai sees him as capable of playing in the first team, that’s good enough for me and it seems he’s also going to make a decision on Ozils fitness for tomorrows game before tomorrow morning.
It’s dejavou with all the injuries, large and small, starting to influence his gameplan, let’s hope Monreal is nearing fitness as well, along with Mavs.
We could be really short at the back if this continues.

  2. I fear Koss will not come back the same player and really think we need to buy another top centre half january is very difficult transfer window to get top quality players so may have to wait till summer. Wishing Rob Holding a speedy recovery real shame he got this serious injury just as he was getting a decent run in the side and playing very well.

    1. Totally agree. There will be enormous fan hope when Kos plays again, followed by fan disappointment when fans see he is now not the player he once was. Just my opinion though.

      1. he was arguably our best defender in the second half of last season. everyone was shocked when he was sent on loan. he was better than holding. wonder how he might have developed further under emery if he had stayed

  3. Spot on Dan.Hopefully Mav will be available for consideration soon.He looked the part last season and hopefully he and Holding can form a solid partnership in the years ahead. No doubt the need for an upgrade at left back has also been discussed by Emery and Mislintat.

  4. Am much anticipating Mavro return rather than koscielny, I think age has caught up with our captain and he isn’t the same bosscienly we once knew, so for those who want mustaffi dropped for him, am sorry to burst your bubble.
Most people clamour reinforcement in cb position but I say we already have 6playes in this department vying for just 2 or 3 positions,so what do we need more reinforcement for, except we are planning on selling 1 or 2, no offense, I really feel both our left backs needs to move on, if am to choose between the 2,Nacho will get my vote anyway, yet age isn’t on his side,
