Let’s make Torreira Arsenal’s centre-forward

You could say I’m a little bit biased, but after seeing the brilliant goal scored by Lucas Torreira against Tottenham last week and then followed up by one of the shots of the season today against Huddersfield, I think should be playing up front more often!

Torreira’s scissor kick won us all three points when Lacazette and Aubameyang couldn’t fight there way through, and did you hear what Granit Xhaka said after the match? “I think he wants to be like Auba and Laca! It’s an important goal for him and a great game for all of the team. As I said before, it wasn’t easy.”

You can’t help but love Torreira. Ever since he arrived he has kept his head down and done his job quietly and efficiently, and now he has added goals to his reportoire. And you had to love his comments after the game as well. He said on Arsenal.com:  “When the ball went to the back post, I saw Auba control the ball and got myself into the box because I thought he might put it straight back in,”

“The goalie made it hard for him so Auba hung it up and I was there waiting. It was just the goalscorer’s instinct that all players have – thankfully it came off and the goal meant we won the game.

“I am really happy, really happy. I work really hard throughout the week to make these moments happen at the weekend, because that’s the most important thing.

“These goals help the team to keep winning, keep improving and keep building confidence. We have a fantastic team and a great group and we enjoy playing together.

“The goal is for the fans too – they show up every week and follow us to all the different stadiums. They’re always there so this goal is for them first and foremost.”

He did it for us! You have to love that sentiment. He made sure we jumped back into the Top Four, andI must say I’m not too upset that Chelsea beat he Moneybags, but I am now going to cheer on Leicester until I am hoarse! I seriously hope they regret leaving Eriksen and Kane on the bench!

    1. Hopefully they will make it bigger, Torreria plays like he’s 6’5 not 5’5. Dude is the smallest giant I’ve ever seen, but have no doubt he’s a giant in the PL.
      .

  1. He has to be buy of the season in the Premier League. I love his ‘win at all costs’ South American mentality, in regards to trying to get opponents into trouble when they foul him. I’ve noticed he almost always rolls around, clutching his ankle, thus drawing the referee’s attention in, when we all know he’s fine. We have missed this for so long! Lichsteiner is awesome as well! We are FINALLY playing dirty! Love it!

  2. Silly headline, great player, wonderful goal.
spuds are above us again, tearing the foxes a new one! bollox.

  3. If mentioned on a previous post I wrote that torriera is a move naturally forward CM who will get stuck on further up the pitch. Allowing gendouzi or Xhaka to sit back…

Good win, not easy. Need players to come back from injury. Tough month ahead.

*I mentioned on a previous post I wrote that torriera is a more naturally forward CM who will get stuck in further up the pitch. Allowing gendouzi or Xhaka to sit back…

Good win, not easy. Need players to come back from injury – only Kosciency available for Saints match as recognised CB.
      Tough month ahead.

      1. Even worse is the fact the filthy, disgusting detritus that are liverpool are top. I despise scousers with every fibre of my being.

  4. Am thinking of adding my salary to that of Torriera. This guy is making me to forget Viera in a hury. Please somebody should advice me

  5. Torreira started his football career in Uraquay as a forward and it shows in his finishing in the last two games. It is a good thing Torreira is scoring because both Aubameyang and Lacazette have been wasteful with the opportunities created and Iwobi and Mhikataryan have no confidence in front of goal. In defense of Aubameyang the through balls provided have been either poorly timed (providers spending too long on the ball) or overhit. With Lacazette it can’t help your confidence if you keep having perfectly good goals ruled out; how can picking off a back pass be offside?
Once again we have seen the reason why no English referees were appointed to the World Cup panel; VAR can’t come quick enough.
Some people have criticized Emery for taking off Lacazette; however he may be concerned about not exacerbating Lacazette’s groin strain. Arsenal certainly don’t need any more injuries.
Any way 1-0 to the Arsenal and on to the next match.

  6. Teams like Huddersfield are sure to park team bus in front of goal. There should be more of such coming so we have to be mentally prepared for such fights coming this way.

    1. I think you’re doing them a huge injustice.

They pressed us in that first half very well, they pressed from the front, they pressed and marked our CM well, and they done good getting back down field or keeping our strikers away from shooting distance. They also used Mourinho’s tactics of taking it in turns, stopping our build up with tactical fouling, not dirty aggressive fouls like JM, just enough so to stifle us. Lucky for us, the moment the referee caught it, he said no, you’ll get a yellow for trying this trick. Fair play to the ref, but it meant in turn, that Arsenal players would have to get some early cards too, I thought it was worth it.

The second half, we upped our game a bit, made some changes, and Huddersfield got a little lucky but also they were very disciplined. The longer the game went on, yes they did eventually retreat, only leaving one player up the field. They’re at the Emirates though, and they have relegation threatening them. I say well done Huddersfield, it was a good effort, and it was a decent game plan. The manager will say hard luck, but at least you all kept the score-line down. Sometimes that alone can make a difference come may. Not enough of our fans credit opponents, it is always Arsenal tore them a sunder, or Arsenal failed miserably.

  7. Two points from this weekend
First congratulate Chelsea for beating city, this makes sure our invincibles history remains intact for this year as pool will choke someday, city were a threat to the invincibles .We will make it top 4 this year if not top 3.
Emery has found his winning midfield formula – bench a german and you win with flair or win ugly
    Have a nice week gunners

  8. SO annoying that both Chelsea and Spurs won 🙁

At least Liverpool are at Top
Id rather Pool win then City, United, Spurs, Chelsea
But we are only 8 points from top, 1 point from 4th and 3 points from 3rd so anything can happen

    1. I don’t want Liv to win, it’s a bit petty of me but I don’t care. They will likely improve further, gain more fans, and they could become a mainstay with city. At least right now, or up til this season, it was just one dominant team that you needed, to flounder for a bit. If it’s two of them tearing it up, and both winning titles, they will keep their best players and better players will want to go there. So I’d rather we had to catch Liv, pass them eventually, and then we have our sights set on one team. Right now, the best players, Liv can’t really go for them. In the market they had to go for talented players, or potentially top players. Only reason they got Van Dijk was the sales, same for Allison. The last thing we need is Liv beating ourselves, Che, Manu, in the transfer market.

      1. They have spent more than us already, allot more. But we can’t allow that gap to widen, esp seeing as we spent only about 70m last season but couldn’t afford to pay Torriera in full.

        1. I don’t want them to win either… already sick of hearing about Mo bloody Salah… imagine what it’ll be like if they actually win something ?

  9. Arsenal have not led at half-time in any of their 16 Premier League games this season, drawing 12 and losing four.

    – Emery has made 14 substitutions before the start of the second-half in their 16 Premier League matches this season, more than any other side and five more than Arsene Wenger made with the Gunners in the whole of 2017-18 (9).

    – Huddersfield have lost nine of their last 10 top-flight matches against Arsenal (W1), failing to score in each defeat.

    – Arsenal picked up three yellow cards for simulation in this game, the most by any team in a single Premier League game since 2006-07.

    – Aubameyang has been directly involved in 27 goals in his 29 Premier League appearances with Arsenal, scoring 20 and assisting seven. What’s next

Having already qualified for the Europa League knock-out phase, Arsenal round out the group stage against Qarabag on Thursday before hosting Southampton three days later, a game that Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Mustafi will now miss through suspension.

      1. Imagine we sorted it out, our first half scoring, but we still scored more second half goals than anyone.

        1. Imagine if Aubameyang, Lacazette, Mhikataryan and Iwobi had scored from some of the simpler chances they have been presented with!
Arsenal have dropped quite a few points due to the our forwards missing relatively easy chances; the positive is the chances are being created.

  10. January is around the corner when kev the clone will start with posting shit…been happy reading comments without his rubbish posts he deemed to be his opinion???

    1. You better strap in, because I feel we may get a newcomer in to rival the great and powerful Kev.

  11. Seriously though, how can we be this high up the table, without being ahead in any of our games this season. That is an incredible stat. I love that it shows, we make good changes, and we dig deeper with the fight. Though, if we are to start getting AFC back to were they once belonged. We need to be able to rip a team to shreds so we can bring on players, so to rest our better players. At some stage, we need to rest Torriera, but so far we need him in just about every game. Same with our strikers.

I did not like seeing the idiots on Twitter, calling Auba the new Chamak. They were giving out about his misses, saying he should be on twenty goals by now. How dumb are some AFC fans. Every striker misses chances you muppets, it’s about the ones that they get, that’ll tell us how important they are to the team. Seriously, they really annoyed me, hearing our own AFC fans speaking like that about a player of ours, who happens to be in the running for the golden boot at this rate.

That’s what I hate about Twitter, it gives every moron a voice, not everyone deserves a voice. That idiot with the banana skin certainly doesn’t, those Che fans in Paris certainly don’t, and now idiots who know nothing about football, surely have nothing to say that fans would need to hear.

    1. Just a thought for your consideration; if only intelligent people were allowed to write on Twitter, F/B, in fact anywhere, democracy would be effectively dead and we would have authoritarian rule. Is that what you advocate? Honestly? Also who decides what constitutes intelligence? You perhaps? There are in fact very few morons who can write at all, let alone spell. Being not especially bright does not equate to being a moron. Sorry to be precise in language as I realise how some people cannot stand English being used correctly.

      1. Break-on-through, the other positive about the second half performances is how fit Emery and his assistants have got the Arsenal players. Even against Manchester United, after a hard game against Spurs 3 days previously, Arsenal finished strongly.

  12. Torreira has been an awesome beast since he joined. It’s time to sign him to a longer contract before other clubs start sniffing around him
