Liverpool v Arsenal review – Garbage Gunners somehow grab a draw

I can understand why Arsene Wenger wanted to make sure that Arsenal did not have a similar sort of disastrous start that killed the game for us at Anfield last season, and was evident again in the first half at Stoke recently. But it also meant that we handed the initiative to the home side to some extent and did not put much early pressure on Liverpool’s wobbly defence.

The Gunners were inviting too much pressure and with Liverpool having over 70 percent possession in the first quarter of an hour, something had to give. We needed to get our passing game going and get our in form attacking players into the game. Amd I fail to see why Wenger put Debuchy in the centre of our defence and Chambers at right back.

Arsenal were managing to do something that very few teams have this season, make Liverpool look good, while we were going nowhere fast. Unable to pass the ball or win a tackle, this was just like Stoke a couple of weeks ago and the only good thing is that Liverpool had failed to punish us.

For all their dominance, Szczesny had little to do until making a smart save from Markovic after 35 minutes. But there was absolutely nothing for Jones and the Liverpool defenders to worry about at the other end.

It looked even harder after Coutinho finally put the home side ahead just before halftime after we gifted them possession needlessly on the edge of the box. But amazingly we were level before the whistle, with Alexis winning a free kick and Debuchy rising to beat Skrtel at the far post and head the ball past Jones. Anfield was stunned, as was I, but we had to make the most of our lucky break.

The pundits seemed to think it was Liverpool tactics and brilliance that caused the one sided first half, but I think the Gunners were just awful and it did get better after the restart, although that was not difficult. Cazorla had an early burst and shot and we seemed to have switched on a bit.

Then there was a long break five minutes in after Giroud had stood on Skrtel’s head, accidentally I am (fairly) sure. Liverpool came close soon after but it would have been very unfair as Sterling blatantly handled in the build up, and then Giroud went close with a thumping strike from the edge of the box.

The Frenchman did not have to wait long for his goal though, as He finished off a great run and cut back from Cazorla soon afterwards. We had to survive a bit of an onslaught after taking the lead but were just managing to hold on. And it was Rodgers that was forced to change his tactics, going 4-4-2 with Lambert and Borini up front.

Coquelin replaced Giroud with 15 minutes left. Ox had to go off as well and we were starting to be camped in our box when Borini got a second yellow three minutes into the nine of added time. We still sat back though and eventually paid the price, with Skrtel heading Liverpool level from one of their many corners.

Obviously our failure to hold on will hurt but we did not really deserve to draw so it could have been much worse.

We didn’t even deserve a point.

      1. BKtheGreat says:

We deserves all 3 point, defending well for the whole game, got the lead, didn’t do anything stupid just a Liverpool fan/referee gave 9 minutes for Liverpool to score and 20 seconds for arsenal to reply

          2. almostawinner says:

            * hey wenger: zonal marking sucks: other teams know to hang off bc arsenal defenders wont come out, then they make their onrushing runs.
            * both teams tried to play high intensity: pool gained the edge in H1
            * chambers is still green: oh – thats right, we dont have any more experienced defenders to bring on bc only 1 defender is currently injured. need to buy 2 in jan. but “mr principles” will probably only buy 1 (or maybe 0! – the jan TW is such an irritant to him)
            * ox covered well for chambers, but why was he subbed with an attacking player??
            * arsenal used to be able to keep the ball away : wenger probably doesn’t practice defending “i’m an attacking manager”.
            * our shortness means we suck at defending set pieces. i wonder how much practice wenger puts into that? are we getting better at defending set pieces?

          3. Danny Welbeck: 3 goals in 14 league matches.

          4. almostawinner says:

if we dont have the money shackles any longer, and if “quality” attackers moved during summer, why did we not win for costa? [if wenger says we cannot compete w manU , then effectively we still have money shackles or he doesnt rate costa or, most probably, he just cannot bring himself to pay the market price]
i just dont see/sense urgency from wenger. he does not understand magnitude of what needs to be done to get world-class quality to replace RVP. {or if sanchez is at CF, then he shouldve got a WC left winger} . wenger says we want to compete for PL, but because he’s deluded, he does not take the actions necessary to get there.

          5. Champagne Charlie says:

He’s a work in progress but def should do better. He’s a sub that’s playing right now because Theo is crocked, and Poldi/Campbell are just not even Arsenal alternatives obviously.

Would gobble up Pedro or Shaqiri in a heartbeat and ditch Poldi & Campbell. Defence the obvious priority, but let’s not ignore we have the same front three and need some quality alternatives.

Quality DM, CB needed for sure. But another squad defender and quality winger would really make for the perfect window. I’ll be amazed if we get anything close.

          6. muffdiver says:

            PER MERTESACKER IS …….

      2. Champagne Charlie says:

Didn’t deserve a point, and it’s criminal we didn’t take all 3 back home. Typical garbage.

That must surely cement the obvious….Mertesacker, Flamini are squad players and no more. Fix those two positions and we can talk about being somewhat solid.

Oh and déjà vu with Chambers. Shameful he got no protection as the game went on, he’s bread and butter for pacey players yet we leave him isolated (joel campbell for protection?) Feel for the kid….cos he is only a teenager!!

        1. BKtheGreat says:

Love Joel but today he had his chance, he had 20minutes to play well and earn his spot and he done absolutely nothing and chambers had protection all day he made loads of mistakes but thanks to per, dubuchy and the ox nothing bad happened until the 90+7m

          1. Champagne Charlie says:

Are you high? Sterling had chambers the entire 2nd half. And I’m sorry did you just say Per was a reason we kept them out until the 97th? Christ.

Per was awful ,clumsy, and just a liability.

Just analyze their 2nd goal and watch Mertesacker. Please tell me you want that guy as one of 2 STARTING CB’s.

          2. muffdiver says:

BKtheGreat – is a master troll

“When you get in a fight with someone, do not wait to see what the person can do in other to react, it might be too late by the time you realise…”, I remember being told that sometime ago. We must learn to start games with a serious attitude, play like our lives are threatened, play like we have a point to prove!!! We seemed clueless with the ball in the first half.

In fact, we were damn awful all round. All our players seem befuddled.

Wenger surely does know how to make substitutions!!!

    5. liam79 says:

The second and only game against one of the bigger teams where we have been ahead in the game. Both drawn in the last minute because of an inability to defend in the air. Wenger is right about consistency! Gerbage

    11. Grim Bligh says:

Considering how we played,i m rather pleased with the result. The season is already gone anyway so we took 2 points away for a rival team for the fourth place.
Too gutted to complain or critisize,I am getting used to that.
Now Wenger must be pressurized to buy a real DM,we need another fast CB too.
Debuchy at RB and Chambers until a experienced one come at CB.
      The usual routine.
Transfer window here it come,if Wenger does not reinforce the team,Fans should boycott.

      1. BKtheGreat says:

I have to admit to that the epl is too far gone now, ( if Chealse win ), but will do with a late title challenge , the fa cup and the champions league

    12. Wazzzimbo says:

I said Welbeck, Ox & Alexis would have to play well for us to win… and they all we’re utter garbage (yes even our saviour Alexis). I want to see what our pass completion rate was for that game, because I could swear 90% of our passes were straight to a red shirt. We can talk about how abysmal our defence was, but we won nothing in the middle of the park, and that is down to Flamini & Chamberlain… what were they even providing? Same story as well, another set piece another goal… How we managed to get a point I’ll never know.

      1. almostawinner says:

with all the confusion and recrimination at this website, its better to keep focused: we conceded on another corner. its bc of that damned zonal marking. mr wenger: pls learn the lesson and change . otherwise you’ll get more of the same.

    13. galaxygooner says:

We need players who are comfortable in possession /trickery like cazorla

  2. Mick The Gooner says:

Absolutely awful and no excuses for not getting 3 points.

    1. KickAssFan says:

Been reading some funny articles and funny comments on this site, everyone saying how easy it will be for Arsenal to beat Liverpool. It’s football, sh*t happens. But more sh*t will happen with Wenger in charge.

      1. Mick The Gooner says:

It was an easy game, but as usual our team did not turn up at all. Our team is far better, but that wasn’t our team playing, that was a disgrace with an arsenal badge glued to their shirts.

        1. muffdiver says:

i thought those badges where stiched?

they use prit stick? DAMN U KROENKKEEEEE

        2. jaweant says:

We need to give liverpool credit. They kept possession. Stayed wide on the flanks and created a lot of oppurtunities. I felt like we were playing chelsea that first half. With injuries and lack of options, I was happy with a point. Would’ve liked Bellerin starting. Flamini hand a terrible game. Even after taking a chunk of Skyrtels head off he scores a brilliant header. Whe need some players like that.

    2. ENJ says:

We have a lot of talented players that somehow become spineless in every big game. I say big game but in reality this was a match between 7th and 11th, but the fact remains is that teams is that teams know they have a chance against arsenal no matter how bad you’ve been. Here’s my problem, I honestly don’t know who to blame any more is it Wenger for poor management even Rodgers as bad a manager as he was won a few big games last year. Is it the players who’s form seems to fluctuate more than a birds mood swings during her time of the month. I don’t think anyone here was surprised as the draw was so typically arsenal.
On a lighter note I was impressed by coquelin hope he gets a look in other than the walking liability that is flamini

  3. KickAssFan says:

9 minutes of extra time??? Damn it!!! Why not just start the game afresh???

    1. KickAssFan says:

Come on, guys!!! I’m only saying 9 minutes was too much.

      1. captinweestain says:

      Everton (A) – DRAW
      Tottenham (H) – DRAW
      Man City (H) – DRAW
      Chelsea (A) – LOSS
      Man United (H) – LOSS
      Liverpool (A) – DRAW

4th place is in danger as I rightly assume we won’t win against any of them in spring.

      1. muffdiver says:

ahhh come on- im sure things will get better.

if im wrong u can punch me in the eye

        1. juhislihis says:

I don’t want to punch you mate, I wanna punch Wenger. And Mertesacker (although Sanogo already did it).

          1. muffdiver says:

hahaha, sanogo should get a improved contract for that action alone.

        2. captinweestain says:

    1. captinweestain says:

    2. Gunner_Bolivia says:

I don’t usually like to put all the blame on wenger but his decisions today were by far the dumbest. with liverpool down a man, he decides to try to sub in a defender to pack it in the back instead of taking the game to them. the final minutes looked like we were the ones with the red card

  6. Mesut O-grillz says:

You guys, get used to the middle of the table. Looks like we’re gonna be spending a little while there

    1. muffdiver says:

mid table looks like a friendly place, like a season long episode of cheers

      1. captinweestain says:

Relax dude 4th place is guaranteed ours until 2056 wenger singed a contract

  7. GOONSTER says:

What to say.. And we think we are close to challenging for the title? smh

    1. muffdiver says:

      ahh come on cupcake!

chelsea will lose ten games in a row! man city will go missing in the bermuda triangle!

  8. Matt says:

We are f*cking shit, Wenger out. Never do we ever do anything against big teams, f*cking diabolical

  9. vijaygunner says:

did we even try to string atleast 5 passes together.

    1. ENJ says:

Flamini – “Chambers is clearly struggling to get down this right wing….. lets pass to him again and see if it works this time”.

Santi – “Getting closed down by five men at once better try a pirouette in the centre circle”

Ox – “If i run fast enough i might just break through this brick wall”

  10. jt says:

dont know how to feel about that one, should have seen six minutes out 10 against 11 really but a point is a fair result away from home

  11. Daedric_Lord says:

awful, played bad and with 1 man up and 2 extra defenders (coq-monreal) and still we concede in setpieces 🙂 🙂

    1. almostawinner says:

      at least he bought on defensive subs;
when he bought campbell on, i thought he might bring akpom or some other 2 attackers.
zonal marking sucks, no subs until min 81. wenger too slow to adapt.
mr wenger, pls dont be too greedy – pls leave at end of season.
u cannot take arsenal fwd any more.

  12. GOONSTER says:

Where was Chambers for that header, the whole team left all the Liverpool players free.. What the fck? smh

    1. almostawinner says:

you are seeing zonal marking in which we mark space, not opposition players! many teams know that to defeat zonal marking, you hang off the defenders and they wont approach u bc they’re marking space . then when the ball comes in , you do your onrush. thats exactly why we lost. and bc mr wenger does not adapt to the fact that zonal is costing us.

  13. davidnz says:

    Excellent point which will
get us 4th in the end.

    1. muffdiver says:

      well said-

*grabs queen greatest hits cd, inserts into matsui stereo…

“we are the champions my friennnnnddd”

    2. captinweestain says:

I’m starting to feel like 4th place was created for us.

  14. Matt says:

Players are f*cking gutless, letting that slip against ten men, so ashamed right now

    1. almostawinner says:

players told to play zonal. subject to onrushing attackers. seen this before. wenger no adapt.

  15. juhislihis says:

Outplayed against Liverpool, first with 11 men, then 10 men and then they score.

Pathetic, I can’t come up with any other describing word for this team along with it’s manager.

  16. fred cowardly says:

  17. Mick The Gooner says:

If Chelsea win we’ll be 16 points behind them and we’re not even halfway through. We aren’t in the title race but it’s nevertheless an embarrassment.

    1. juhislihis says:

Halfway it will be probably around 19 points. Losing 1 point per game is quite suitable.

  18. vish says:

zonal marking killed us yet again, Wenger never learns.
skrtel literally bulleted and scored. no one marking him.
    Bunch of idiots we are.

    1. Mesut O-grillz says:

who was supposed to be on the post? Probably wouldn’t have scored if someone is on the post

      1. muffdiver says:

dont blame em, that post is unapproachable- like deebo in friday

      2. juhislihis says:

Gibbs. Look at the replay and see he did f*ck all during that corner. Shameful.

        1. almostawinner says:

wenger needs to put fear of God into his players: they’re too comfortable.
bye bye mr congenial grandpa. pls leave coaching job.

          1. davidnz says:

Flying puts the fear into God 🙂

  19. Mesut O-grillz says:

We let a guy, who got KOed in the head, on a team with only 10 men, score on us in the dying minutes on a set piece.

  20. SA_Gunner says:

This Wenger needs to go! We made liverpool look like champions. He’s fu@cking disgrace.

  21. GOONSTER says:

Liverpool deserved to win this game.. Why the hell did we even turn up for this match? Absolutely bottlers in big games.. I could not believe that we let them absolutely dominate us like that for 90 minutes…

  22. Jim A says:

I am sick. Why can’t we pick out the best header of the ball and mark them. Skirtel a few weeks ago Crouch. I am looking at Mert here. Why doesn’t he just say no way will you get close to the ball because this is my area.

    1. almostawinner says:

bc w tells our players to do zonal (not man-to-man ) marking.
other teams have learned that to defeat zonal, the attackers just start 5-10 yards away and then make onrushing runs (as did skrtel). its happened lots of times before. but we have a manager who is not adapting v.slowly

  23. Grazza says:

We didn’t deserve to win today but to put make all them defensive subs and not see that game out against 10 men is just Feckin criminal !!!!! This just shows even more how much we need to bolster our DM and defence !! Absolutely gutted !!!!

  24. GOONSTER says:

No fight, no nothing, one good game and 5 average after that, we are going nowhere…

  25. fred cowardly says:

Wenger is happy as long as we slowly creep up to 4th place, so a draw will please him.

    1. davidnz says:

      Yes that is correct.
      But surely fans know 4th
      is the goal by now.

  26. Matt says:

Whenever a team like United f*ck up, we always have the opportunity to gain some points on them but we never f*cking take it, I’m fuming right now, same old same old gutless Arsenal, players are a reflection on the cowardly manager with his shit tactics. I’m ashamed of each and every one of the players apart from Cazorla who was immense.

    1. RSH says:

      and Szczesny.

  27. True.Gonner says:

AOB will be like Wenger out

    1. SA_Gunner says:

      F#ck you

  28. V.uren says:

We were that poor that arsene brought Monreal on for Sanchez moments after Liverpool went down to 10 men ….

We still think welbeck is the answer ???

    1. Mesut O-grillz says:

Don’t think anyone really thought he was the answer.

      1. V.uren says:

Not what it sounded like after his hat trick …..

Welbz = 3 league goals all year !

      2. RSH says:

Welbeck was never an answer, we just didnt want to be stuck with Sanogo.

  29. Grazza says:

Mert ducks away again as the ball comes in he needs replaced ASAP !! Debuchy is a right back and looks better says it all to be honest !!

  30. Matt says:

Whoever says they’re happy with that point, you are an utter c*nt.

    1. muffdiver says:

it is christmas- im mildly happy…

      am i mildly c*ntish?

  31. V.uren says:

We even looked scared against 10 men , hahahaha !!!!

  32. nyc says:

Half the season gone. Christmas is upon us. We played all big teams. Everton mancity manutd tott Chelsea Liverpool. We didn’t win a single game. Lost to our bogey team stoke as usual. Drawn at home to hull. We are below west ham after half season. Stoke city is breathing down our neck. Cannot beat the weakest Utd side in 30 years. What is this?

  34. Mick The Gooner says:

Just like against Man City.. We go down 1-0 and then get into the lead at 2-1 before conceding a set piece in extra time because some fool in our team doesn’t mark an opposing centre back at a corner..

    1. Mesut O-grillz says:

yep. But at least against City we showed some fight on the pitch and looked like we deserved to win. This game though, not at all.

  35. john0711 says:

I’m sorry lads I know you will thumb me down but
    Ox awful game
    Welbeck looked shattered
Why take Giroud off he’s useful defending corners
Whe didn’t deseve anything but with the orrect subs the right time we would have come away with 3 points

  36. nyc says:

Look at the disappointment on the Liverpool players faces. They are gutted that they missed out on a win. They dominated 80% possession and 27 shots. We had just 7. Scezeny saved us from another 5-1.

  38. Raja Danish says:

Same old wenger no tactics no game plan totally dominated by average liverpool, who look like champions because of our pathetic display.. Wenger must go at the end of this season.. COYG

    1. Justsoccerfan says:

Don’t agree, Wenger did have a plan. Let them dominate and we will kill them with our chance. Our players are so good, two on target two goals. We nearly win this game, why need to play nice soccer, pool can’t even win with their 27 attempts and they are below us.

      1. davidnz says:

        “Any one complaining about
        this fantastic performance by
        Arsene’s team is an ignorant,

        2. almostawinner says:

does anyone else get the feeling that mr hillwood is slightly elitist?

    2. V.uren says:

Come on bud , that’s not fair, When we were getting battered in the first half , it was wenger who ingeniously switched Sanchez and welbs on the wings which made no difference whatsoever …..

Truth is that wenger has only ever had one plan , the plan where you pay no attention to your opposition and let them worry about us …. Good plan if u have Henry Bergkamp pires vieira and you are the best team in the league , but absolutely awful plan when you are just scraping fourth year in year out and now have an inferiority complex when it comes to the big teams !

I love wenger , but it’s clear we need new ideas , fresh enthusiasm , a more robust and defensively aware approach considering we play in the most physical and unpredictable league in the world !

The arsenal job would be a very tempting one for any manager in the world , we have the basis for a good side already , a few top stars and money to compete, time to take the next step !

  39. Goonsquad8 says:

Why the f*ck did Gibbs leave the near post

  40. juhislihis says:

Sterling changed to left wing after the first half. Wenger reaction? Nothing. Keep Chambers there, just like against Swansea.

Mertesacker ducks after the shot, what an utter tool. Gibbs, guarded no one in the corner – got only one job and it was to secure the post. Flamini got an idiotic yellow on 13th minute, for the rest of the match he went invisible. Watching OX dribble hurts my eyes.

Welbeck played about 40 minutes too much today, practically just put his shirt on for today, that’s it. Sanchez had the worst game of this season, shame it had to be this match.

    Cazorla and Debuchy were okay.

  41. GOONSTER says:

Lets break this down, Chambers is a liability, can’t defend to save his life, any half decent winger exposes him.. At CB he looks clueless too, where is his best position?

Welbeck is just not good enough, all he does is to run around all game, no end product from him, nothing, we signed him to score goals but he spend more time chasing the ball due to his poor first touch..

I just don’t know why Flamini is in our squad.. All he does is point and shout instead of reading and doing some intelligent defending.. He tries to seem like a leader by pointing and shouting all game.. Pathetic..

The OX has got to step up now, we have had him for years now and now is the time for him to be consistent, not having 2 games and do fck all the next 4 games..

Mertesacker is the tallest player in our squad but is the biggest girl when it comes to high fizzing balls into the box.. The guy is pathetic…

    I am so frustrated..

    1. juhislihis says:

      I agree 100%.

Welbeck and Flamini just ARE there, on the pitch. They do nothing else. We are stuck with Mertesacker for years to come, makes me depressed to think about it. What a tool.

And OX, I don’t know what to think about him. I don’t think he has improved at all since we bought him. He got like 5 goals in what, 4 seasons? Today he lost possession ALL THE TIME, trying to dribble against 3 men what an idiot. See him play I can’t imagine how can he improve, since he hasn’t progressed since 2011.

  42. Simon_MrMac says:

    Really played bad today 🙁

Never got our passing going. Only Carzola (who was awesome) really had their touch going today. Others worked hard, but lots of high balls, no control, weak in mid-field – meant (I hate to admit it) Liverpool bossed it – particularly the 1st half.

Biggest advert for a strong defensive midfielder Ive ever seen

    1. CraigZWE says:

According to your thumbs up, not even 1% are fir him

  44. Justsoccerfan says:

Well done wenger, what a nice game plan. If not the ref we should win this game.

Why send off their player, they can’t win us for the dominant and with 10 man our player let their guard down. Damn we should win this, Wenger nearly make it.

  45. captinweestain says:

Flamini is costing us big time, he gets yellow afer yellow, then he can’t do nothing, leaving us with what in midfield?????

  46. 6.7 CB and an injured player beats him with a header….NO SANCHEZ NO TEAM

  47. captinweestain says:

Why take of the ox who was man marking sterling to bring on campbell, who had zero role, poor, very poor!

    1. Mesut O-grillz says:

      I think he was injured

    2. Justsoccerfan says:

You can’t blame wenger, he just doing his job which requires him to make substitution after 80 mins.

  48. phil-thompsons-nose says:

The problem with our team is the manager..
He’s responsible to motivate the team pick the team and inspire the team..
He fails on all accounts, there’s no dynamic.. Even burnley and Leicester have more drive and dynamic
It’s been evident all season and it’s the managers fault .
How more can we take.. Yet a home win against QPR will appease 20% of us – it’s a disgrace- no consistency..
Mid table battle this season.. Instead of a fight for the top 4 it will be a fight for Europa league and 6th!
    These performances aren’t a suprise..

  49. Twig says:

“The Frenchman did not have to wait long for his goal though, as He finished off a great run and cut back from Gibbs soon afterwards.”

Did you watch the match at all?

    1. Sumo says:

At least someone reads thr report. There are a lot of spelling errors too.

  50. nyc says:

There is no need to be upset. We will beat Stoke qpr wba Leicester Burnley very very easily. They are no match to us.

  51. Raja Danish says:

This game sums up our poor season we are so poor to watch.. Lack of pure holding midfielder and top Centre back is costing us this season.. Wenger is responsible for not signing DM and CB… If we had Matic type DM we would have dominated in midfield… Wenger out, no more excuses MR. Wenger… Enough is enough leave at the end of this season..

  52. Twig says:

Why was Mertesacker ducking away from Skirtel’s header? 🙁

    1. muffdiver says:

he was dodging planes on the way to heathrow

      1. davidnz says:

        Dodging fans on the way
        to “Deathrow”

  53. 2015 clean the house from the Manager to the bottom….PLAN A PLAN B this team is a disaster

  54. ryanh27 says:

To be honest, the fact that we were a man up counts for little in set pieces (their equalizer). Am absolutely gutted we didn’t hang on to the win there but in the broader scheme of things, a draw at anfield will go a long way to securing champions league football for next season… Hopefully wenger will strengthen the defensive side of the team come January, and then we can try push further in the champions league… Keep your head up gooners, could have been a lot worse…

  55. Matt says:

I struggle to enjoy an Arsenal game nowadays, probably because I’m so f*cking nervous, angry and frustrated whenever I watch them.

    1. mr lean says:

      Me too !

  56. mr lean says:

No leadership again today on and off the field,I’m getting fed up with our BFG he is playing well below par and time for him to be benched ? Oh no we can’t as le fraud has only three CB and one is out injured .
    Wenger out

  57. Matt says:

Funny how one of the games we needed Sanchez the most he was anonymous.

    1. Mesut O-grillz says:

yeah i agree, it was unfortunate

    2. Justsoccerfan says:

You can’t blame him, season break coming.

      1. muffdiver says:

if he banged my misssus i wouldnt blame sanchez..
“f*ck sake carmen why did u strip, bend over and reverse into alexis- your a disgrace”

  58. Mesut O-grillz says:

He messed up, but don’t blame Merty entirely for that second goal since the whole squad was just awful the entire match. I think we all knew deep down in our broken hearts that an equalizer was coming.

    1. HA559 says:

Dude he was Captain he should be organising. Yes the whole team was awful but in that set piece there was no communication just Flamini and Chamber point to Skrtel. Gibbs decides not to be on teh post.

Did you know? Not having a second defender on the post cost Athletico Madrid the Champions league final last season in 90 minutes plus stoppage time.

    2. Jim A says:

I’m blaming him because it is well known Skrtel is their best header of the ball. Someone must say he will not get near the ball. Just as Crouch was a couple weeks ago.

      1. Mesut O-grillz says:

        I hear ya guys.

  59. Matt says:

Hummels in for Mertesaker, a decent ‘manager’ would do that. However, we don’t have a decent manager, we have a deluded old tw*t who has favourites who co-incidently are the sh*ttest players in the team- e.g Mertesaker, Flamini, Arteta and so on…

  60. Justsoccerfan says:

Guys we can win the champion, we just need to play like today. We nearly win this game, Wtf 9 mins injuries time. Fcuk ref. Well done wenger for the game plan.

  61. goonerboy says:

The OX. Was really terrible ,he provided notin. In d game.he couldnt even pass to save his life
And wenger allowed to play that long.he killed most of our attck wth his misplaced passes
Seriously,i dont know who to blame anymore

  62. Alusine says:

All I can say is that we need wenger out we are tired of being tired. same s*** different day wenger was an Arsenal coach but not anymore i didn’t mean to disrespect him but his a piece of s*** his looking good from far but his far from being good enough is enough we need changes

  63. Matt says:

Coquelin done better in ten minutes than Flamini has done all season.

  64. GOONSTER says:

Mertesacker is the tallest player in our team but he seems to always hide when it comes to standing up against big opponents.. He keeps letting the smaller defender mark the bigger opponents, he let Monreal mark Gomis and we conceded, he let Bellerin mark Peter fcking Crouch, and he was hiding instead of being the one closer to Skrtel today. The guy is a coward… smh

  65. nomorearsene says:

I’ve had enough of these sh*ts. WengerOut!

  66. gooner100 says:

Disgraceful defending. Where was the marking or aggression for the second goal…why no players on the posts…why does Mert duck out of 50/50 challenges (every fcuking time!)…chambers isnt good enough to play week in week out yet….why the fcuk can’t we retain position when we’re being pressed…big disappointment today.

  67. HA559 says:

Obviously with that performance, my 4-1 prediction was never going to come to fruition.

We play two good games and then they always say we turn the corner only to then perform like this on the third game.

  68. WENGER lost it, is not personal I wish him well, but this Man just can’t piece a team together, his lack of vision and tactics are evident, the lack of discipline in this team is noticeable no leadership in/out of the field.
2 – 1 Liverfool with 10 men we had to go for the Kill, what we did instead well we all saw it.
WENGER time to go…nevermind what this piss poor team does the buck stops with you.

  69. muffdiver says:

    im not actually that bothered.

our goal is top 4- so we can compete in competition we never do sh*t in!

so what if we end up outside top 4?

35 mill bonus? for who- u? me?

  70. mr lean says:

    Still being positive it’s a point against a sh#t Liverpool team !

    1. captinweestain says:

      Thats well depressing man, cheers

  71. HA559 says:

No way Welbeck and Chambers should’ve been playing 90 minutes today.
Jenkinson is way better than Chambers.

    1. mr lean says:

Sanchez and Welbeck had there worst games for us today

      1. Mesut O-grillz says:

they caught the not-showing-up-in-big-games illness from their fellow Gunners

  72. mr lean says:

Merry Christmas to all the great Gooners on here, don’t care if you are AKB or WOB have a great time.

    1. captinweestain says:

      You to bro.

    2. muffdiver says:

      u too bro 🙂

      1. mr lean says:

        Cheers guys

  73. HA559 says:

How can you be building a team for 8 seasons and then halfway through the 9th season you are 15 points behind first place?

Our season is summed up in the amount of points we have, and that is the same as Tottenham.

  74. Dennis says:

Marry Christmas and happy holidays dear gooners.

Our defence needs new blood but our attack was fantastic. I hope we the new year rewards us with a classy DM and hopefully a CB, i’ve been good this year santa!

  75. phil-thompsons-nose says:

How ironic that we can’t beat the worst team manure have had in 30 years, or a liverpool team struggling to beat hull and sunderland at home..
We can’t beat swansea or Leicester.. Stoke, Everton
We lose a 3-0 lead to end up drawing 3-3.. We play players out of position due to us not having adequate cover, and end up with injuries like no other team has had in history.
We sign a player for £42m to appease the fans yet he hasn’t lived up to expectation and is possibly injured due to losing heart/faith in the manager.
These types of performances have been happening for the past 4 or 5 years and although we have been in the top 4 we haven’t been anywhere near winning the league…!
Why are we always a ‘few players’ short of being really competitive to win the league? It’s happened for too long now.. And you can understand why players become frustrated..
Arsene seems to be content with being top4 every season without actually winning anything..
But if it’s so imperative to be in the top4, spare a thought to how close liverpool came last season as they weren’t in the top4 and no distraction.. Look at manure this season, no CL football and 3rd place tucked in nicely behind the top 2 with no distraction ..
Arsenal may benefit from not finishing top4 next season.. But we might not have too long to wait to find out, as top4 looks a struggle this season..!
Kroenke and WENGER out this season!!

    1. mr lean says:

Great words mate and as always agree with you

      1. phil-thompsons-nose says:

        Cheers mate..

  76. Justsoccerfan says:

Why you all just like to blame on our players.

Ox is still young(experience for 1st team), learning(long enough), look good in some games( but no end product, alway injured).

    1. HA559 says:

Who still watches postmatch arsenal fan tv videos after we lose a game?

      1. HA559 says:

Sorry don’t know why my comment was a reply to your comment, it isn’t meant to be

    2. GOONSTER says:

The Ox is not young anymore.. Look at Sterling, he is even younger than The ox but he is playing like a seasoned veteran..

  77. goonergaz2000 says:

We are going backwards wenger you are clueless do the rite thing and say you will terminate your contract at the end of the season this is breaking my heart and take flammini and mert with you they’ve only got 10 men a total joke fcuking clueless

  78. captinweestain says:

I think everyone really knows it’s time for a change, ive had enough, you lot have…
    Wenger out

  79. Justsoccerfan says:

    MOTM Carzola.

  80. HA559 says:

We can’t string together 5 good games. It’s always two and then on the third one we play like this again.

  81. Bolly says:

People calling for Hummels are the same people who were shouting that we should sign Mert. Truth is, he is just as sh1t. That’s why Dortmund are where they are!

  82. HA559 says:

Wenger if he does, will only buy in one player. What position do we need to strengthen more if he gets only one player.

    thumbs up for Defender
thumbs down for DMF or some kind of powerful physical midfileder.

  83. gamer says:

weak minded weak mentality weak players bottlers all steaming from the loser manager living off past glory. this has been such a awful season soo depressing to watch but dont wory folks we will beat qpr next week and all will be rosey fans willl be singing thers only 1 arsene wenger again

  84. davidnz says:

    Fans need to calm down.
    Its a point at Anfield.
    Newcastle lost at home to
    Sunderland !!!
Next week Chelsea will beat WestHam
Palace will get a point at home to Souhampton
    Arsenal will beat QPR.
So Arsenal will be one point off 4th.
Happy times for all Gunners 🙂

    1. Justsoccerfan says:

We will be the champion (4th).

  85. Justsoccerfan says:

The way you support arsenal, your kids must damn spoiled. If my kid going to wrong direction, I will correct them but not support them just for the sake of it.

  86. fred cowardly says:

Wenger will get just enough signings in January for 4th place trophy. So don’t worry.

In Wenger We Must Trust for 4th place

  87. Mick The Gooner says:

Of the number of things in that game I cannot believe, Mertesacker cowering away from Skrtel on that corner tops the lot. Imagine what Tony Adams would have done to him for that if he’d been on the pitch. It didn’t happen when Adams played. Why? Because Adams was commanding, scary. Players wouldn’t dare back out of a challenge because they knew Adams would kill them for it. Today our supposed ‘leader’ at the back was the one pulling out of the challenge – what does that say about our team? Mertesacker needs replacing. I don’t care if it costs us £35m, we need Hummels.

    1. Such as Loew did with the National team replaced BFG with Hummels and won him the WC.

  88. The True gunner stunner says:

For a manager that talks a lot about taking positives out of lost/drawn games, wenger doesn’t learn. Zonal marking is killing us. Every time our opposition has a set piece they are more than likely to score (you don’t need to manage a game to see that)

  89. GoonAR says:

Terrible game to watch. We had the 3 undeserved points in the bag, even though we probably didn’t even deserve a point. 10 members from this site should’ve played with Szczesny in goal instead. Piss poor. SMH. On to the next match…

  90. Big Gun says:

Wenger made a massive mistake playing Chamberlain in the middle of the pitch. Flamini’s positioning was horrible and those two with Cazorla makes for a very poor midfield. Chamberlain is a natural winger, and to keep him in the centre of the pitch for ball distribution is really curbing his talents. Chambers should have been CB, Debuchy RB. As for Mertesack of potatoes at the back…i really don’t know what Wenger sees in him. He cannot even tackle or pose any sort of threat on the ground or the air. He is our biggest liability in defense, especially against a team like Liverpool who love to try and take on.

    1. phil-thompsons-nose says:

      Spot on BG
      Mertesack of potato… Quality..!
You hit the nail on the head.. What on earth does wenger see in this great lump.. It’s actually embarrassing watching him run, jump and tackle.. He can’t do any.. It’s slow motion!!
The area we are so desperate to improve – is our undoing.. Makes you wonder why our better players keep getting injured (kos) and our worst-stay fit!

    2. gooner100 says:

Easy to say after the game. Before the ko everyone was saying the ox was awesome in the middle last week as was debuchy at cb. Today we just didn’t perform. I agree about Mert…but what options did Wenger have? Chambers was closest to skrtel, even pointed to the guy before the corner..yet didn’t get there…and nor did Mert.

  91. mohawk says:

I was shocked at how many times Arsenal players just passed the ball straight into the legs of the opposition. When you are 8 years old you learn that you cannot pass through the opposing player – you have to pass or dribble around or over the opposition. Quite basic really.

  92. LoCkAy says:

We have to start to be honest with ourselves and the reality of the club ( as well as what the f*ck is going on in the background)…
Is that really all we can get for £8millions/year? Really??

He took Sanchez, Giroud (who was a nightmare for Kolo and Skertel) and Chambers off and brings defensive minded players… So even at 11 against 10 we were forced to back up because, and anyway, Welbeck is showing game after game why he was sold by Man United (not good enough and clumsy as f*ck) and we had no serious plan to go forward anymore… When the simple logic would ask you to leave Giroud upfront and Sanchez who are constant problems for defenders…!!!

And some fans will tell you this is the guy who will take us to another level.

First he needs to be in the quality of managers like Ancelotti, Simeone or Mourinho (which he is not, far from it) and then explore the tactical landscape of modern football (which he has no damn clues).

I mean, why is he still at the club??

We are in December and we are already out of the league (and still you have deluded fans who are behind that fool)… Well, top four is still possible… But I did not know the “mugs” at the club were paying for a top four… May be it is the case!!!

Some are talking about winning the CL… How? With which squad? And with which manager?
    Another FA Cup?
Well, we do like the “crumbs” so why not?

I just don’t get it… We should have been a top club by now competing “bum to bum” with Bayern M and Real Madrid… !!!

    1. RSH says:

this exactly. some Arsenal fans can mention going to the “next level”, yet stilling want Arsene Wenger as manager?? Its simply not possible! Wenger has made this club massive, and we have all stuck by him for about a decade of mediocrity. But there are simply no more excuses. Indecisive in the transfer market as well, I’m just upset because this club could be so much better if it truly wanted to. Arsene’s time has come and it needs to be accepted.

      1. phil-thompsons-nose says:

Koeman , laudrup, Martinez, simeone or whoever it may be might not have the alleged money available.. Kroenke may not allow them to spend it.. Kroenke isn’t bothered who’s in charge as long as we achieve our goal of top4
Mediocrity has now become the norm under Kroenke and wenger..
Gone are the days of actually going to the bernabeú and winning or beating manure at the top of their game..
At best we beat a poor galatasaray or a weak newcastle..
Mediocrity is the norm until Kroenke and Wenger are no more..
Today’s debacle was more proof of Wengers tactical frailties.. Why was wellbeck left on while giroud taken off..? Flamini a walking timebomb – stayed on instead of being replaced by coquelain ?
Tactical inadequacies that will eventually come back to haunt us in our quest to be competitive..
One last thought, we spent nearly all last season at or near the top and instead of strengthening in January when EVERYONE could see we needed a player or 2.. Wenger still refused to spend ( because our objective was almost within our grasp) it goes to show that the board and manager lack any ambition to take our club any further and should walk away now before we drop any further into mid table oblivion!!

  93. kanaka says:

    Behold our club captain everyone
    Honestly, i give up.

  94. FredupG says:

We are at best 18 carat gold….being sold as 24 carat WFT…how long before fans wise up of this bullshit???

  95. RSH says:

As usual Wenger’s subs killed this match. We did 99% of the work but were too scared towards the end. We were lucky to be leading at any point in this match. We made Liverpool look worldclass today. As ive been saying all season, this team is FAR from good enough. Szczesny saved our ass too many times. Defending was horrible, atrocious honestly. Credit to Szczesny though, and Giroud, and especially Santi who was by far our best outfield player. Lots of challenges from him, and he did the business upfront as well.

  96. HA559 says:

1st half Giroud plays left wing, Sanchez plays at right wing, so Wenger can fit Welbeck in CF.
Sacrifices two in form players from their best position so he can fit Welbeck in CF?

Then in 2nd half Giroud played CF.

    1. RSH says:

welbeck not being subbed at any point in this match was a crime. He was the worst forward out of anyone and was just giving the ball back to Liverpool the whole time.

  97. arsenalkid1970 says:

U call yourselfs fans well get a grip. Can’t play sweet football each game. And to be honest the ref played a big part today what was near 10 ET shit. Hard few games coming up and if we get past this then I’m happy and I’m a happy fan coz I love the gunners. A full team would have pissed them today but we don’t have that yet. BFG needs a rest and say what you want about him he is there game after game. We need a CAPTIN and shit give it to the goalkeeper and end this never having a captain. He is young strong loves arsenal and wouldn’t be the first goalkeeper to lead arsenal

  98. younggunner says:

Just wen I tot I had seen it all….average liverpool playing us like dey barcelona, then you ave average coutinho playing like WC,liverpool ave been washed, rinsed and hung out to dry by every1 in EPL…wait…except ARSENAL! I understand we don’t ave WC players all round, but bottom half clubs still manage wins against d big boys, why can’t we just manage dat too…wot I find funny tho are d comments from players/manager/fans/pundits b4 the game…..25 attempts to 7….we wuld ve been annihilated if not for Pool being shit side!

Transfer window is here again, lets see how dis one goes, I’m sure wenger is cooking somethn really special for us this time, ingredients from his previous transfer windows bags!

  99. phil-thompsons-nose says:

We actually looked like a team that had played 3 times in a week..
Really poor with no composure on the ball especially the first 25-30 minutes.
Liverpool had a game midweek – we had a full weeks rest.. It should have been us pressing for 99 minutes not the other way around..

    1. jt says:

      probably the most worrying part

  100. jt says:

    mertesacker showing how to defend….
whenI wrote this in the summer it didnt go down well but I think without koscielny mertesacker is very average
