Lots of Arsenal defensive transfer rumours today

There have been quite a few transfer rumours today focussing on the Arsenal defence, both incoming and outgoings, according to a variety of media outlets.

We have already covered a couple of the rumours today, Kieran Tierney and Dayot Upamecano and I could easily have written another three articles on different rumours circulating in the media throughout the day.

Basically, this is what I have read about today.

Kieran Tierney

Arsenal are going to make a concerted effort to get this deal done this week according to Sky Sports

Dayot Upamecano

According to German tabloid BILD, Arsenal have tabled a bid of £55 Million but have been told by the players club Leipzig that he will cost £70 Million.

Daniele Rugani

The Mirror is claiming that Arsenal will be making a fresh attempt to loan the Juventus centre half before the transfer window closes.

Laurent Koscielny

The Mirror has the Frenchman snubbing peace talks with the club, while TeamTalk claims that Bordeaux and Rennes are in negotiations with Arsenal over a transfer for the 33-year-old.

Carl Jenkinson

Guardian journalist Daniel Taylor has taken to Twitter and tweeted that talks are underway between Arsenal and Nottingham Forest over a potential transfer.

I am sure there is more elsewhere but that is what I have come across so far and what it is telling me is that while some of these are pure speculation or even just clickbait there is a pattern developing and that is Arsenal are looking to overhaul the defence before the transfer window closes.

Going to be an exciting few days ahead.

  1. Oh please it will gladen me to see the back of these defenders this window, Jenkinson, Mustafi, Koscielny.

Then we should use the money gotten for their sales to buy Tierney, Upamecano maybe a back up RB though I believe Chambers can deputies the RB position just like Dier does for Spurs plays DM, RB and sometimes CB. So I think with Chambers know how he should be able to do that

  2. I really hope most of these are true especially the Upamecano guy and Jenkinson’s transfer. Would be an exciting end to the transfer window.

  3. C’mon Arsenal, put your hands in your pocket. Matthias Ginter. £50 million, but a CB of immense quality. Has another 7 years in him. Bite the bullet. Foret Tierney and get Matthias Ginter.

    1. Honestly am not excited about Tierney because of his reported time on the sideline-8weeks, by 8weeks time most EPL teams would have settled into the new season, no one can say for sure, how this guy will get back after the injury and especially with new team, new environment.
I prefer we look elsewhere, there are thousands of LB around the world, or rather we hold on , submit our bid by january when he is fully recovered and fit

      1. Could not agree more. I believe a January bid would suit us better. With KT having the time to prove himself again and hopefully his price is gonna be lower by then.

      2. Would like Kamara and Max Àarons on either sides and a really good central defender to partner and calm Socrates down till Rob takes his place. But finally its upto the management and coaches

    2. Guess which one of our current players came from Monchengladbach? (Hint: he has a killer left foot but can’t put it to good use)

      Ginter, no thanks LOL

      1. Haha Pri well spotted! I do like his long range shots when they go in, he reminds me of Rosicky against Hamburg. Virtually nobody had a positive word to say about him after Sunday’s game but, when he does play well, he is bloody effective. There is a good player in there somewhere…

      2. Pri
Peculiar analogy. You are a ‘Clubbist’ obviously. Is that a kind of aversion of a club. Xhaka is pretty rubbish and you obviously think Ginter has a ‘Club’ foot caught fom Xhaka. Most odd superstition. Have you seen Ginter play?

  4. It’s funny that even after spending over £70 million on one player, some “fans” still say they can’t see us buying another defender

    Of course it’s possible!

    1. D.Upemacano deal will make this window a dream. Tho I for one would prefer a left footed CB. KT deal could wait another time perhaps due to hid injury. COYG

  5. What is 6 weeks wait for Tierney when we can get 10 years filling LB? Please people think long term, putting it off until January may cost us more than £25 million; or have you forgotten all the talent we missed on by Wenger putting deals off.

Bellerin will still be out for a while and AMN will be filling RB in the meanwhile. We are still stuck with Mustafi and Sokratis, Holding still weeks away, and 1 CB won’t make us contenders.

We aren’t challenging for title this year, we don’t have the midfield or defense to match pace with City and Liverpool over a long season.

Let’s prepare to set a foundation this year and grow into challengers in the next couple years.

I’m impatient like so many other fans but I see and understand what the club is doing. We’re trying to grow stars again and have some solid candidates.

Martinelli, Saka, Saliba, Willock are very talented and promising players. Give Freddie a chance to help them be superstars, he’s shown he can develop talented youngsters.

    1. Surely Tierneys price would reduce come January with less time on his contract? We need to be careful, he was injured for large parts of last Season and is now injured again. It would be a big gamble this transfer window when we need a proper centre back. Maguire going today for that money has really elevated the market in terms of centre backs, I am English and like Maguire but 5 million more than van dijk ?! The problem is now Ake is valued at 75 million, Tarkowski 40 and Dunk the same! A position we need to fill in my opinion but that transfer today has raised the values unrealistically! A worry before the window closes!

      1. Agreed! There’s a hefty premium on English talent these days and most of the time, these players aren’t worth it and wouldn’t be able to cut it abroad. Ake is worth 75 million?!?!?!? Don’t make me laff ????

  6. Simple we have around £25m left to play with. Now if we sell;

    Koss £7m
    Mustafi £20m
    Jenko £5

That’s around £30m. That would pay the Tierney Fee plus pay his wages. If this deal for Upemacano can be done in installments then we could well slap £30m down then the rest over the course of his contract etc…

Defo not Impossible for Arsenal to do. Raul to pull a rabbit or two out if the hat before window closes this week. Chambers and Niles can help out at RB until Hector is back.

    1. Sean We are one of the richest clubs in the world where do you get this only 25m left UTTER RUBBISH

  7. Arsenal review

    2018-19 Premier League finish: 5th

    FA Cup: Fourth round

    Carabao Cup: Quarter-finals

    Europa League: Runners-up

Players in: Nicolas Pepe (Lille, £72m), Gabriel Martinelli (Ituano, undisclosed), Dani Ceballos (Real Madrid, loan), William Saliba (Saint-Etienne, £27m*).

Players out: David Ospina (Napoli, £3.1m*), Aaron Ramsey (Juventus, free), Petr Cech (retired), Danny Welbeck (released), Stephan Lichtsteiner (released), Charlie Gilmour (Norwich, free), Julio Pleguezuelo (FC Twente, free), Jordi Osei-Tutu (Bochum, loan), Daniel Ballard (Swindon, loan), Vontae Daley-Campbell (Leicester, undisclosed), Ben Sheaf (Doncaster, loan), Cohen Bramall (released), Xavier Amaechi (Hamburg, £2.25m*). Krystian Bielik (Derby, undisclosed).

    Summer so far:

Captain Laurent Koscielny refuses to travel on club’s pre-season tour of the United States.
Sixteen prominent supporters’ groups and bloggers sign a letter calling on owner Stan Kroenke to “reinvigorate” the club.
Gunners break transfer record to sign £72m Nicolas Pepe.
    Key fixtures:

Liverpool (away), Tottenham (home) and Manchester United (away) in opening seven games.

    1. If not defensive reinforcements before friday, I don’t see arsenal getting 3points from the possible 9points in those matches…

Liverpool (away)… Total write off.. No hope
      Spurs (home) draw
      Utd (away) draw

      1. The point is thou we are excited if things
Remain the way they are currently can we be
Confident about our top four chances people
Said we where 1 point behind 4th last season
But that does tell the whole story we where
Lucky to finish 1 point behind 4th that’s my
View thou, too many teams had a bad end of
Season including us and Tottenham notably..
Look last two seasons and look and point different
Between us and the top our objective should be to
Close those points down from what we saw last season
Did we improve yes did others improve yes par chelsea

  8. Probably media speculation with the incoming players but we live in hope,Emery simply must find better defensive armour, the players we have are not suddenly going to turn into great players overnight,we will still leak goals heavily whatever system he plays.

      1. ? We would like to think Emery gets to say what positions he wishes to fill and the player characteristics he requires.

  9. Hopefully we won’t be wasting more money on someone who won’t play till the new year, Tierney.

  10. I applaud the board for getting us Pepe, we now have two of the most skilled and expensive African fowards in Aubameyang and Pepe. However, if we fail to reinforce our defence am afraid we will fall short of our targets. We need a marquee defensive signing and specifically at central defense, to steady the ship. RB as well, Jenkinson and AMN are utter rubbish. Nothing near Arsenal standard. If we sign a quality CB and RB we WILL make it into the champions league. Additionally, if we ditch Xhaka and get a proper central midfielder we can start to challenge for the title soon!

  11. Can’t really see us getting top four this season, City, Liverpool, spurs and Man U nailed on, I’m expecting us to be fighting Everton, Leicester, Wolves and a few others for top six. We’ve got a crap defence that doesn’t look like it will get sorted anytime soon.

    1. Declan why do you rate Man Utd’s chances of a top four finish over Arsenal and Chelsea? If anything, their managers are unproven at this level and have no experience of winning things at the highest level of football. Actually, Ole has had success with Molde in a weak Norwegian league.

The point is this: without Alex Ferguson, Ole will struggle when things go south as they do for all teams and Chelsea have an unproven manager too and they might struggle as their transfer ban means they can’t buy their way out of trouble.

Lastly, one of the worst Arsenal teams ever finished just one point behind the best Spurs team ever, (and we had our destiny in our hands ’til we imploded at the very end), so let that sink in for a moment.

Liverpool and City are top two at the moment but after that, it’s anyone’s guess as to who will make it.

Don’t write us off so quickly man!!!!
We are better than that ☺

      1. Welbeck, although I agree with your assessment on Manchester United and Chelsea, Mr Danny Blanchflower (if you haven’t heard of him, I suggest Google) does not share your view that this is “the best Spurs team ever”.

    Sign more players pleaseeeeee

  14. Upamecano looks strong and athletic. Very different to Mustafi and our great wrestler Socratis. We need someone ‘yesterday’. I can see Upanecano and Saliba together in the future. With Rob Holding on the way back…Holding, Upamecano and Saliba. Might be our 3 CBs for years to come.

  15. I’m not sure who will be willing to pay £20 mil or more for Mustafi but I will be very grateful to the club who does
Koscielny and Jenkinson are sellable though

  16. We buy players at a very expensive and ridiculous prices but yet struggle to sell our at peanut prices until we let them run out their contracts and leave for free. This is because we have deadwoods as players no quality in the way they play. Mustafi has never had a standout season since signing for us yet he was bought for 30, Jenko is gone already. Xhaka is just there doing nothing but getting his pockect stacked up every week with wages.
From Sunday’s match against Barca, I only noticed we need to play the young gunners because they seem hungry and thirsty to win something. Not some old cargo fallout players, get us quality please in the defence department and sell off all Wenger inherited players cuz they are all lazy
