Unai Emery is persisting with introducing Lucas Torreira to the Arsenal team, and yet again he was on the bench and was brought on for the second half, and although we have all been impressed with Matteo Guendouzi since the start of the season, it is obvious that he will be a backup for Torreira when he is ready to start every game. Arsenal looked disjointed and at sea in the first half, but took control when Torreira came on. He looked like the missing link to me.
As Emery said after the game about the switch during the break. “I want to give every player confidence,” he said.
“I am very happy with Matteo and also very happy with Lucas. But maybe in the second half we needed a little more balance on the pitch with the positioning. Lucas gives us this balance.”
Guendouzi played very safely and cannot be criticised for his performance as he hardly made any mistakes, but Torreira is more aggressive and forward looking and even had a couple of shots on goal.
Well look at this video of his performance today and make your own decision….

Agree. But maybe Emery wants more height in midfield, hence Guendouzi is prioritized
I think Torreira might get his chance in the next home game
Reis Nelson is performing well and scored..
so whos hes gonna replace?
recall him back to warm the bench for few games a season?
pretty sure he will not improve by warming the bench and playing less than 10 games a season at his age….
He will replace Mkhitaryan. He is quickly showing us why Man utd was so eager to ship him out. 180K-a-week my goodness. Not sure who will afford him now.
He’ll click eventually, soon maybe. The guy is too good to not make a spot his own in this team. I think its just all the new mixtures in CM its making things more awkward for Ozil and Mkhit, they used to know where the other one would be. But now Ramsey is there really high up and Xhaka is more forward too, as well as getting used to the new guys. Mkhit will end up on a wing and Ozil will end up behind Lacazette is my belief (or two play-makers behind a striker). Except for tough away games, I can see Ramsey being an extra man in those games, but would not want Mkhit or Ozil on the wing, DW and Iwobi might be better for protection in tough away games.
Nelson will progress better at Hoffenheim.
Exactly….
if he can play at least 30 games with Hoffenheim, he will improve
but there are some fans wanted him to stay and play Europa and League cup games only
which amount to less than 10 games on average
how good is nicolas pepe? ligue1 followers
Scores goals the rate Roberto Carlos used to score them. Don’t know what he’s like defending though, but with all the teams following him he must be pretty useful.
What a gem Torreira is!!
Agree, Torreira to start, an absolute must.
And what a welcome surprise we got with his ball playing ability. I was just expecting him to be a terrier and thought his passing might be a little hyped because Italy give players more time on the ball. Awesome player!!!:))))
BoT, Torreira started his career as a forward, has a good shot in him and is pretty useful in front of goal.
I’ll leave the manager to do his work as long as it produces the kind of results we’ve always wanted , so no reason for mourning.
Gooners for life.
Socratis and Torreria are good buys. The big problems ,namely Czech and Mustafi remain.Surely Leno , Lich,Holding and Mav will get an opportunity next week?
Watched the highlights
Poor performance but another win
It’s clear that Torreira has to start
Czech isn’t comfortable with the way we play
Mustafi got lucky with his error
I would love to see some of the younger players start
If we keep playing like this I expect 7/8 th this year
Agree John, Leno. Mav and Torreira along with Guendouzi and Licht as the proper captain we need. Sell Cech, Ramsey, Bellerin and Mustafi and raise some serious money
I have keenly started watching for Everton’s results, which I never did before. Them or us for 6 th spot, I believe. But our defending is not getting any better, despite thE three in a row wins. With the likes of Bellerin and Mustafi, both disgracefully chosen over better players,(LICHT AND MAVRO) we will be fighting for 6th, at best IMO.
There is nothing wrong with Cech
He is a good goalkeeper
Cech’s past it, and as for ball playing skills, laughable.
