Maybe Arsenal fans are wrong to hate Van Persie for joining Man United?

I was at the Emirates on Saturday so was a bit late over the weekend hearing Van Persie’s punditry for BT Sport. Now this will put me in the minority, but I have never been angry at the Dutchman. I was gutted he left but never directed my feelings towards him.

I can understand how someone at the peak of his powers wanted to win something. In his last season for us he nearly single handedly got one of the worse squads in our history into the Champions League. Not one gooner can accuse him of not giving everything till his last game for us.

It would have been an injustice had he gone his whole career without a Premiership medal. How can I as a fan complain about Stan Kroenke’s lack of ambition and not expect the player to do the same? Has he not been proven right about our lack of direction, has he?

Most professionals will move if they are given more money and a better chance of success, it’s a no brainer. Yet he’s claiming it was us who got tired of him.

To clarify, this wasn’t a man trying to antagonize, and also not saying what we wanted to hear. He seemed to be honest in his outlook. Surely though he never sensed the fans didn’t want him, we couldn’t have been more opposed about our best talent heading to Manchester. Instead he suggested the majority of gunners haven’t known the truth, that we never bothered offering him an extension. That would contradict what Arsene Wenger said at the time. Maybe we need to hear from our ex manager for clarity?

It could be we heard the salary other parties were willing to pay Robin and just couldn’t compete. But if we didn’t even rfght 100 percent, that just sums up our owner’s priorities. He saw a final chance to cash in on an asset and chose that over finding the cash to make him stay?

Has anyone’s opinion changed on Van Persie?

  1. Van Persie is full of shit .
He ended up winning just one trophy at man utd , and he got chased out like a dog .
I’ll see how long his career as a pundit last before he comes back to arsenal begging for a job.

    1. Damn
He be full of it or he might not
We might have offered him or we might not off but the fact is he got the trophy and medal which we all crave for as true supporters.
I hated seeing score for manure and some of the goals he scored for them was pure magic (that me talking as a football fan)
I never judge any one who feels they can better there self, either at football or life. A lot of our ex have fallen by the wayside but a few have picked up major honours. We on the other side just declined.
Forgot the past, its about the here and now.
      Ps
Only time I will be agrieved is if one of ours joins them(spuds) but saying that they have no chance of winning any honours
      Onwards and upwards

  2. I never cared what RVP wants or not, but he moved to United cos the lack of vision for better Arsenal was very obvious at the time.
And one of the Wenger s worst mistakes was to let him go to United! for 25 mil they got themselves a bloody title! So frakked up, so wrong,…

    1. Maks, so what do you suggest AW should have done?
Kept a player who, for eighteen months kept putting of signing a new deal because of the world cup”, then announced that the little boy inside him” told him to move on?

One minute AW is blamed for selling a player who wants to go, then blamed for trying to persuade another, in Sanchez, to stay.

Incidentally, both players made it abundantly clear that they wanted to sign for manure and both players sold the club, the manager and the fans, down the swanny.

Lack of vision? What about lack of loyalty to a club that stood by this parasite through his personal problems, his injuries and his lies to the fans?

Isn’t it strange, also, how one player is castigated for being injured / sick, while this judas is forgiven because he wants to better himself?

Just to remind everyone, it was reported that judas was offered the biggest ever contract in order to keep him at the club, he refused it…just go back and read what this lowlife actually said at the time, before blaming the man who tried to move heaven and earth to keep him at the club.

      1. Well said Ken, well said. The lying lowlife. Now that he has what the little boy in him wanted, why doesn’t he just shut up?

We moved on guys. We are here and now. I think Ken said it all and it is only a big fool that will think Arsenal is never going to win the Premiership. With the way they are going about it, it is going to happen sooner than later.

      2. Not forgetting that because of his behaviour his football career was over in Holland and it was Arsene who gave the chance to get his football career back track.

We stood by his many injuries and as soon as he could he was off to his ‘dream team ‘

        1. I never said that rvp had to be kept at the club just dnt sell him to United!
At the time we were always 2 players short for winning something… that was lack of vision from Wenger and Gazidis.

  3. I don’t care about RVP
I’m more concerned about how Arsenal will do against Liverpool on Saturday innit

  4. My opinion is still the same as it was then, and reflects yours, Admin. What’s the difference between the move of a top proffesional footballer to a club that can hopefully offer him more during his limited playing career, and, for example the CEO or MD of Barclays going to HSBC? (except for a possible restraint of trade limitation in the latter case). Footballer or teacher or engineer, you look at the adverts and apply if it’s better than what you have. Loyalty as well as charity begins at home.

  5. My take is that I am as sure as I can be that RvP is lying when he says he was not offered another contract. himself says differently from RvP. Most on here well know I was not a Wenger fan over his last several years. BUT when it comes down to which of the two do I believe, well it will never be you, “Mr Treatment Table”! Goodness knows you were very well paid while missing all those matches when constantly injured and then you did the dirty on us when it suited you. Only a gullible fool would believe your nonsense and I AM NOT GULLIBLE. Nor are most Gooners, though a few appear to be. More fool them!

  6. I think we all want the players to love the club as we do but in reality players move for many reasons……. money, the famous “I need a new challenge” family reasons, culture, even the weather. At the time of RVP moving I think the most annoying thing to me was that he was paid whilst we nursed him through many injuries, he then had a decent season and was off!

  7. Let’s all move on.. Now we’ve got lacazette and aubermeyang two strikers every club in d epl would dream to have!! arsenal should learn and take care of our key players how? Simple Josh.K have demonstrated that with bringing in top talents to what you’ve got would go a long way in preventing an RVP or a Sanchez or a cesc situation if u know what i mean. Arsenal should just be competitive in d real sense of d word

  8. I hate him for his goal celebration’s against us and wasn’t it him who said something about ” a boy inside him” told him to move on

  9. Now we have Aubameyang, Lacazette & Pepe. We have the best forwards since the Henry, Bergkamp, Wiltord, Kanu era. I’m very happy with our attack now. Hopefully either Nelson or Martinelli or both will come good too.

  10. if Its a shit player we are happy to get them out but a good player leaves…,well! The club will always remain I don’t sweat the small stuff. I only care if an ex player disrespects by way of goal celebration or comment because it is a slight on the fan base that made their career possible because of us fans. Loved rvp, Cole and all the like. How we welcomed sol come on what is with the double standards

  11. I think every professional footballer is a mercenary ready to take on doing a job that is save to do and gives a good pay. In this wise, RvP might have left Arsenal for Man Utd because he wanted in his mind to leave the club for some personal reasons best known by him. And when the opportunity to leave came flying to his face, he seized it with both arms and left. Now, could RvP be lying by saying he was not offered an extension to his deal at Arsenal that had a year left on it before he left to Man Utd, knowing that his claims can be debunked by AFC if it comes debunking his claims and not necessarily have to be by Arsene Wenger to do it because all the details record of player contracts at AFC should be at the club to assess if it becomes necessary to debunk or confirm a claim.

  12. Robin van Persie is full of sh*t. Period.

He was hired to spew more of the stuff inside him at Arsenal, by those who share the same with him.

Arsenal and the amount of negativity they have built around anything Arsenal makes them money. They are just cashing in on their investment over the years. van Persie is just the newest took. They will soon tire of him and toss him aside like the used tissue he is.

Can’t be bothered about what he has to say about Arsenal.

  14. Didn’t sign a new contract, fergie pounced as he needed a proven EPL goalscorer to build his team around for his final year as a manager and outdo a city club who won the league previously and so didn’t fight as hard the following season.

    Fergie got his finale
    RVP got a league title
Arsenal got 30m or whatever it was for a 3.75m investment. 100% return on a player who only really gave us 3 seasons and disappeared after a few years a lot United.

His Legency is that he never reached his potential, as talented as he may have been. But bergkamp couldn’t advise him when he tried – such was his arrogance. I factor this for his many injuries and bad temper.

Wouldn’t be a AFC legend, wouldn’t be a United legend and nor for his country.
