Arsenal new boy Noni Madueke is yet to begin training with Arsenal, but a return date has now been revealed ahead of the new campaign. The former PSV academy player completed a move from Chelsea to the Gunners this summer in a deal that could rise to £52 million.
Signed to provide competition for Bukayo Saka, Madueke’s price tag suggests he could play a significant role moving forward, especially as he is also capable of playing on the left wing. The 23-year-old was officially unveiled as an Arsenal player in mid-July, just before the club’s pre-season tour of Asia. However, he was not involved due to his extended season with Chelsea playing in the Club World Cup.
Madueke set for return ahead of Villarreal friendly
According to a report by The Athletic’s James McNicholas, Noni Madueke will return to first team training on Monday, 4th August, ahead of Arsenal’s friendly against Villarreal on Wednesday, 6th August. The winger was granted a few weeks off following his arrival, having featured deep into the Club World Cup over the summer as Chelsea reached the final of the newly expanded competition.
His return comes at a crucial time, with two home friendlies scheduled against Villarreal and Athletic Club (9th August), ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League opener on 17th August against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Time to silence the doubters
For Madueke, the aim will be to settle quickly into his new surroundings, especially in light of the controversy surrounding his move to North London. While some fans were underwhelmed by the signing, a vocal minority went as far as launching a petition opposing the deal.
Despite the noise, the Barnet-born winger will be looking to let his football do the talking. If he can find form and stay focused, there is every chance he will prove to be a valuable addition for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Trossard and Martinelli didn’t have great seasons last year so if he’s deployed on the left he won’t have to do too much to be better, a very low base that a 50m player with EPL experience should easily be able to meet
Martinelli didn’t have a great season but he was looking better towards the end of an injury hit season. Trossard overall was good value playing in several positions and he never let anyone down.
Don’t get defensive, I’m not saying they were bad they just weren’t great
Trossard got 8 goals in 38 games, my point is a 50mil player with EPL experience should be able to out do that.
But our LW is the hardest hit area with our tactics, Ode basically lives next to Saka on a field so LW is difficult to be critical of in general
Fans should just banish the thought of Madueke playing left wing. He’s signed for the right wing role first, other positions comes after due to unforeseen circumstances or tactical substitutions to see out a game.
Saka starts so are you saying MA is too inflexible to play Madueke on the left if our current LWs form isnt good?
So he’d serve the club better on the bench than an area we need improvement?
Since when does MA only play players in their preferred positions?
We have the capacity to bring in a specialist LW, if one of our current options are moved on, so I don’t see Madueke playing primarily at LW as you suggest. The left wing “problem” will be addressed either by signing a new left winger or we stick with what we have.
I disagree. Noni deffo plays some part of game left wing at old Trafford and soon left wing starter I predict.
He’s two footed, can come in or outside opponents from either side, deployed by England on left, and by Chelsea on left too towards end of his stint. He’s a duel monster, consistently beating opponents will create chaos. Prepare for chaos.
I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do with no preconceptions because of the club he’s signed from. Let’s give him a fair chance as for every new signing.

Agreed. Seems like he has something to prove too and that can only be a good thing.
If Arsenal fail to achieve success this season, it will be down to the decline of Odegaard and failure of Arteta to address the issue on our left wing.
I think Madueke will prove to be a good signing who will not be restricted to a back up role for Saka.As a natural left footer there is absolutely no reason why he should not be used as a conventional left winger which would bring about more balance to our attacking tactics which have been heavily weighted to the entire right flank.Perhaps Arteta has finally seen the light and signed a versatile young talent who is also highly regarded by the current England Manager.
If the left wing succeeds with Madueke, then there is no doubt about winning silverware.
I supported arsenal signed noni maduake becos noni is good winger to assist Saka if Saka is injury, like last season when Saka was injury no left winger to play Saka Wing, Arsenal really miss Saka absence.
Saka and Noni are natural left winger, so is good to sign Noni.
