Newcastle United are very happy that Arsenal have drawn CSKA Moscow

Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle side are just four points above the relegation zone right now, and as usual it is going to be a dogfight right until the end of the season with just 5 points separating 13th and 19th in the table at the moment, with just 8 games to go.

So why are Newcastle happy? Well it is now looking certain that Arsenal have very little chance of overtaking Chelsea and Tottenham to get into the Top Four, having to try and make up 13 points in the remaining games, so our only hope of a trophy and a back-door entry into the Champions League is by winning the Europa League.

After beating AC Milan we must believe we have a chance of going all the way, but first of all we have to get past CSKA Moscow with the first leg at the Emirates on the 5th April. If we don’t get a massive result in the home leg we then have to travel to Moscow to try and make certain of getting to the semi-finals. That involves making a 3,600 mile round trip to the Russian capital to play on the 12th of April in subzero temperatures. We are more than likely to have to field a full strength side in Moscow, so when we face Newcastle just three days later we are either going to have some rotation and field a weakened side, or put out a full strength side that has just got back from Moscow!

Either way the Magpies are going to have more chance of getting three massive points for their season….

  1. Although we should prioritise Europe I hope certain fans do not use it as an excuse for poor league results

      1. That’s why this year they’ve been getting four days rest before every tie. In actual fact if they’d of reached the semi final it was already decided that the weekend game against us was to be postponed. But they got knocked out so it’s irrelevant. Anything to help their beloved United.

  2. Robin Vanpayslip V2.1 (now with cojones - firmware update to increase cojones to Chuck Norris levels) says:

It takes a lot of cojones to take Arsenal lightly.

But nonetheless I’m happy that Newcastle are happy. It takes a lot to bring some cheer in the North and if them watching while we win an actual trophy helps then I am all for it.

  3. I think even Benitez would make a better Arsenal manager than Wenger. At least he won Champions League with Liverpool

  4. Frankly, other than Newcastles relegation rivals, who cares! We are nailed on to finish sixth and ALL that matters this season is that Wenger is sacked. As that probably means a Europa defeat, bring it on!

    1. Jon, Burnley are close enough to Arsenal and playing well enough that Arsenal cannot afford to drop points to put 6th position at risk. Regardless of my views on Arsene Wenger, I still want Arsenal to win every game. The 3 day break between these two games is just another test of the mettle and intestinal fortitude of the manager and players.

  5. Regarding Newcastle, we can beat them , NO PROBLEm Why arw we getting worried CSK , are a good team and we will have to play well to get a result so we know that and have time to hone our boys to do the business Let Nelson and willock have a run and Nketiah a full run wenger you gotta give them the time or you will lose them Nelson is already upset with you dont let it get a grip or you wont have a team for the next seasons
